In an effort to decide whether to get my DH Satellite radio and a years subscribtion for Christmas, which service is better?

I think both services are similar. You might want to base your decision on which sports package you prefer. I chose XM because I preferred their equipment. BTW, I absolutely LOVE my XM and can't go back to FM.

One big thing is if he is a sports fan and, if so, which he'd prefer to listen to? My DH likes both baseball and football, but prefers to watch the football games. He LOVES having the XM baseball games that he can listen to April through October, so for him it's a hands down XM preference.

We have built-in XM in our van, a home unit that can be used in our second vehicle, and we're getting ready to purchase another home unit (since I don't let him use the home unit that I bought him, so he's buying me my own--he works at home and wants it for his home office). We use the XM hours a day--love it! I've turned into a total XM and TiVo nutcase. :cheer2:

It depends on what he wants. Some programming is different.

Sirius has:
Howard Stern
NFL
NHL
NBA
NASCAR (beginning in 2007)
And a few other things

XM has:
Opie & Anthony
MLB
Air America
Im sure there are other things, I am just not familiar with XM as I am a Sirius subscriber.

All of Sirius' music channels are commercial free. XM has some music channels programmed by Clear Channel and they have commercials.

I did have XM for three months when I bought my new car, and I didn't like the playlists as much as I do on Sirius. I think XM has a bigger playlist, but the programming wasn't great.

I love Sirius and can't imagine living without it now.

He is a big football fan, but not so much with other sports.

Based on that Sirius would be your best choice. We LOVE to listen to NFL Radio on channel 124. Great programming. Lots of players, lots of coaches, good stuff! :thumbsup2

Now I don't have to type so much! Pick based upon programming becasue quality of the actual radio / technical stuff is pretty much even.

I have Sirius and I LOVE it! The only time I listen to terrestrial radio now is here at work, and that's only until I can get a sound card in my computer here so I can listen to Sirius online! :thumbsup2

But like others have said, it depends on your programming preferences. Howard Stern is a big seller for Sirius. And if you DH like football, then Sirius would be the way to go. As far as quality, I think they are about equal. I can only promote Sirius because I have it and I love it!

Good luck! :thumbsup2

I subscribe to Sirius and I can get XM through AOL. I prefer the programming on Sirius. I have had it for 2 years now and every week I am finding something new to listen to. :thumbsup2

I have XM in my vehicle and really like it. I have heard good things about Sirius too!

We don't have either one for the car, but we do have Sirius with Dish Network.

DH was looking at getting one or the other for his car. They both are pretty much similar to each other. But I guess it depends on what type of music and the like you are looking for.

For me personally, I love 80's music and Sirius has a few channels that are 80's based and hosted by the old MTV VJ's. XM doesn't have too many choices for 80's.

I have Sirius with Dish too .. I love listening to The Big 80s and Hair Nation! I don't have either for my car, but when I do get it, I'll be getting Sirius!

6008 (Big 80's I believe) and 6022 (First Wave) are the two primary stations I listen to (when DH is out of the house for the day with DS4). First Wave is just like the old WLIR that used to be on the regular FM dial. Larry the Duck actually was a DJ on that station before their format completely changed. I dont' like listening to Dark Wave though. Too heavy and gothic-like (or punk?) for me.

Personally I prefer XM. For awhile we had both, but I was almost always listening to XM so we cancelled Sirius. It just depends on the person and his or her listening preferences. :music:

We discussed this a few weeks ago on another thread.

Here are 2 of my posts from that thread. :goodvibes

We have XM. If I remember correctly, XM was released before Sirius.

We bought XM's (yes, plural, more than one from the get go :goodvibes ) soon after they were released. We were hooked immediately.

Last year we bought our Dodge Grand Caravan, and it came equipped with a Sirius with a free 12-month subscription. I didn't like it at all - two thumbs down. I found a few stations that I could tolerate, but it just wasn't XM. We were given a Sirius receiver and service free, and we still didn't want it.

After a few months I started begging Dh to get me a Roady for the van! He got me one, and I've been happy since! :lovestruc

My favorite XM stations are 20 on 20, Ethel, Lucy, E!, America Right (for Dr. Laura), and Extreme XM 202 for Ron & Fez!
Fezzie is my boy!

We have XM in both of our vehicles, a receiver for our home stereo, a portable boombox receiver, and Dh has an Inno. Oh, yeah, and plus we listen on the internet. :thumbsup2

 One more thing. . . the XM Roady 2 in our van has a feature that lets you mark songs you like. When that song is played on any channel, it alerts you with a beep. Just hit the button and it switches to that song.

The Inno has the same feature PLUS you can mark any band or artist. When any song by that band or artist is played, it alerts you with a beep. Just hit the button and it switches to that song.

Which service has better pickings of bands like MCR,Evanscence and the like?
