I am sorry to say but we had our tom cat for 16 years ( he has been missing on a 'walk' for 2 weeks so we think it is the end).
But we never managed to get the smell out of things. He would just prefer to go in towels, clothes, shoes, laundry, closets rather than his litter box. Even if it was clean.
I think once they get into thier heads that it is possible to pee somewhere else then it is just so darned convenient - and those towels are so absorbant.
We are off to the cat shelter to pick up another kitty and there is no way we will take another boy

. This won't help with the retraining, but may save your rental. Are there any animal behaviorists in your area that you could consult?
