Eat at Artist Palette we loved it AND for LUINCH and dinner you get 10% discount!!! It is counter service and not fancy but the roast beef and blue cheese sandwich was AMAZING! Hubby ordered the mexican pizza and loved it too!

We really liked the food at AP as well...especially the breakfast!

Check out the Community Hall...and there will probably be games around the pool area over the weekend (they had horse/noodle races, hoola hoop contests, etc. on Sunday afternoon last summer).

Have a massage at the spa!

We stayed at SSR for 14 nights last September and had a great time.

As we had our DD (then 16 months) with us we didn't tend to go into the parks in the evenings. Instead we would have an early dinner and she would sometimes sleep in the stroller after her meal. DTD is so close and convenient to SSR it was brilliant. We would wander back after a drink and dinner with no worries about disturbing her to put her in the car or bus.

On our first couple of nights we walked over to DTD expecting to be able to chose a place to eat once we were there. We were rather shocked to find every restaurant had really long waits. It gets busy over there! So we started making PS for dinner from our room a couple of hours before we left for dinner and it was fine. RFC had 3 hour waits some nights but you cannot get PS there. (I keep meaning to join their Safari Club to get jump the line privileges) I know it might seem obvious to make PS arrangements and we do for resort and park restaurants. I guess we thought at DTD it would not be necessary but it is, especially at weekends and on days when the parks shut early. As you are going at holiday time you will need to plan for crowds anyway I guess.

On the nights we couldn't get a table at DTD, we hopped on the boat and got wonderful food at Olivia's at OKW. We really enjoyed that and the servers were so friendly. They remembered us when we went back. That is one of the reasons we hope to stay there later this year, it was so friendly.

SSR is great, you will enjoy it I am sure. Are you travelling with children? How long are you staying? The spa is heavenly, the women in your party will adore it. (Men too maybe!) Artist's Palette has really nice food too, interesting and tasty daily specials but we wanted a sit down meal at night which is why we went to DTD or off site. The Crossroads area is very close to SSR if you want to break out of WDW for a meal. We enjoyed Red Lobster there and Olive Garden a bit further out.

We stayed at SSR in August and really enjoyed it. Fantastic resort. There was a lot of construction and I can't wait to see what it looks like in a couple of years when the construction is done.

We were at SSR for 9 days in January. Where we stay is always an important part of our vacation and we like to enjoy our surroundings as much as going to a park etc. SSR is excellent for this, the days you want to just be lazy, there is still tons of things to do if you want....the pool, dtd, boat, spa.

I agree with mrsminniemouse on the dining at downtown disney, it wouldnt hurt to have priority seating. One of the days we walked over, waited and waited for Rain Forest Cafe....the kids (ages 5&4) were so hungry we ended up eating at McDonalds

Another thing about dining that we noticed is that many of the restaurants in dtd are very loud (music etc) it was difficult to find somthing quiet after a long day.

We also did the boat up to OKW for Olivias, I recommend this

We've been there three times. It is a beatiful resort. Very relaxing. The veiw at night (of DTD) is stunning. The quiet pool is very nice too. You can also get to any resort for dinner by a short walk to DTD and grabbing a bus. Great location. You won't be dissapionted.

I'll bump this up to respond to Mrs. Minnie Mouse... We are travelling with our two daughters, 12 and 8. We've been to WDW many times but this is our first SSR stay and we are sooooooooo excited....even more so now that you told us all the great things!

Great point on going to OKW...that's our home resort and I never thought of taking a boat ride over to our "home".

If you look at www.relaxedyet.com you can see the spa offerings at SSR. My friend and I had a pedicure together, in side by side chairs with massage backrests! Fab! I think they do some treatments for young girls, like my first manicure. Your girls might like that!

Rainforest Cafe at DTD gets mad busy but they dont take PS which is a shame because the children don't understand why they cannot go in. My DD used to get excited to see the butterflies outside and felt upset we couldn't go in, it was a 3 hour wait!!!!!!!!! WE made sure we had lunch at RFC at AK soon after and she loved it. If you want to eat at the DTD RFC try lunchtime or stop by to put your name down well before you want to eat, then go shopping.

I am sure your daughters will love the pool slide and maybe community hall activities at SSR.

Enjoy the view of DTD from the quiet pool. Watch the fireworks at midnight from the viewing plaza out by the quiet pool.

Get a pina colada by High Rock Springs. They make them fresh. (as opposed to other resorts where they are a pre-made slurpee type drink)

Play a game of pool and get a snack at the Turf Club--nice and quiet and also leads out to the boat dock in the back.

Enjoy your trip and the wonderful atmosphere but....

boycott the high-priced sundries at Artist Palette!!

Can you walk from OKW to SSR? Or do you have to take the boat to DTD from OKW and then walk?

We are going soon and on our check in day, planning on just wandering around for a while, maybe pool hopping between OKW and SSR with our children, etc. Better to take the car?

You can walk on path from OKW to SSR. When you are on the path there is a foot bridge to cross over to SSR. Just be sure to watch for the golf carts as they seem to zip out of nowhere sometimes.
