Saratoga Springs vs Marriott Cypress Harbour

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Which would you choose a 1 bedroom villa at Saratoga Springs or a 2 Bedroom Villa at Marriot's Cypress Harbour? Is the price difference worth staying off site? The 2 bedroom at Cypress Harbour is $600.00 cheaper (with discounts) than the Saratoga Springs.

Travel party consists of 2 children ages 4 and 7 along with my spouse and I.
In addition to the Disney parks we will also be visiting Sea World and one of the Atlantic Coast beaches. Obviously we will have a car at our disposal so the buses of WDW are insignificant.

Your experience(s) and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

We stayed at Cypress Harbour about 4 years ago. The resort is nice. The pools are great. When we stayed there however, there was no restaurant onsite. But the rooms were very nice, a little dated at the time but I have heard that they have all been updated so that should not be an issue. WDW was 10-15 minute drive I believe. We enjoyed our stay there. The staff were friendly. Seaworld was VERY close, no travelling time at all. I don't think you would be disappointed in your stay there, especially for the amount of money you would be saving. I would say if there is a negative it would be that there is no restaurant on site, and I really can't think of restaurants that are close by either. You would need to drive to a restaurant if you wanted to eat out. I hope that helps a little.:confused3

I can't comment on Saratoga Springs as I have not stayed there, but I can give the perspective for Cypress Harbour.

Cypress Harbour is a terrific resort. They have Pizza Hut Express, crispy cream donuts in the general store, and Starbucks. We like staying at Marriott Cypress Harbour and Horizons to supplement our DVC stays. Cypress Harbour is rated No. 9 on Trip Advisor for Orlando resorts. I think Horizons is rated 10 and Disney's Wilderness Lodge is rated No. 12.

The theming at Cypress Harbour is a lot like Disney's Old Key West resort. It has a Key West theme, with pastel gray colored buildings and lots of beautiful plants, flowers, and palm trees. Seaworld is very close to the resort. If you will be there next spring, Seaworld's new water park Aquatica may be open.

Saratoga Springs is very nice, too. We own some DVC points there. I like the new Grandstand section of Saratoga. You can't go wrong with either resort. We're staying at Cypress Harbour News Years week and letting my kids, nieces and nephews stay on our DVC points onsite. I wouldn't hesitate to book either resort. They are both terrific.

go with your best deal. besides you get more room.

I left more information in your other post - if you need help finding it - just ask.

Cypress harbor is a great resort. We've stayed there three times and it is our favorite location. There are restaurants very close by if that is an issue for you. We like the setup and the resort was fully remodeled over the past few years. The units are huge. There is something to do for ever age and the resort is beautiful.

As you're not planning to only go to Disney parks, I'd also suggest Cypress Harbour. The 1BRs at Saratoga Springs are very nice - we stayed in the Congress Park section with a view of the quiet pool and also the pond looking at the west side of downtown Disney. But the second bedroom at CH has both a bed and a sofa bed if your children each want a bed while they'd sleep together in the living room's sofabed at SSR.

These are both very nice resorts so it probably comes down to cost and space. You get more for less at CH, but if you haven't previously stayed on Disney property it would be hard to pass up SSR.

Even with a car at our disposal, when on property, we usually opt for the Disney buses, and just use the car for the airport/off-Disney treks. It's just easier, esp going to MK. We also like to hop sometimes and that too is generally easier if you don't have to go back to your car. Also, it's fun to take the monorail and boats.

I prefer staying onsite, at least while we're doing Disney. We've done both, and find that when we stay onsite we get much more park time.

The more amenities you have in your room, the harder it is to GET OUT of it. If your idea of a vacation is cooking your own food and watching tv in your resort room, then being offsite won't matter much. If you prefer going commando, and getting the most park time, then staying onsite is easier. Even when we aren't in full commando mode, it's just easier to go back to the room mid-day when we're onsite. And we've stayed at places that were JUST off Disney property. The only one that was quite easy to get onsite from was Marriott World Center, as it's right off World Center Drive.(not sure if the Marriott you mention is the one that's right next to MWC)
You also mention going to non-Disney places. The only time we prefer non-Disney rooms is when we're touring places like Universal. Once we get on Disney property, we're less inclined to leave. If we're doing Universal or anything non-Disney we prefer to do it BEFORE we go to Disney.

I should amend what I said above...theonly other time I like staying off-property (and the real reason I've done it so many times) is when the room is essentially free because DH is in Orlando for a conference, then I'll gladly slum it at a place like the MWC ;) :lmao:
