Saratoga Springs New Section

Thanks guys. You've helped a lot. We own at BW and normally stay there, so I know very little about SSR. I just couldn't get two extra studios there in Oct., so DH & I switched us all over there. I was worried about the buses, but hearing there's a stop at each section makes me more at ease too.

Wow - this is great news. SSR seems like it is getting to be a desirable resort in its own right. I've stayed there twice because of not being able to get what I wanted, and I've had a good time each time. Now if there is more to come, all I can say is WOW!

Pools Schmools!!!! Fix Artist Pointe, the lunch still stinks!!!!

AP has one of the best resort counter service resturant in Disney. Its not just a burger/hot dog joint. A bit more upscale with the menu.

We stayed at SSR for 10 days last year. I can't remember how many times we ate there, but it was all good.

I had the most amazing turkey and brie sandwich at AP on the last day of my trip. In fact, I ate half of it waiting for DME and half of it at the airport! It had toasted multi-grain bread and- surprise!- blueberries on it. It was a great tasting combination, even if I really wasn't expecting blueberries. :thumbsup2

Is the Carousel section open yet? I'm going to be in charge of requesting a particular section for a large group in December, and I want to know all of the options. I stayed in Congress Park in May and loved it, but the others in my group might want a newer section.

Carousel buildings are not open. The bus stop is ready and when we where there in early August they looked really close to being done.

The first building of the Carousel section has been open. Its the first building in front of the first bus stop. The rest of the buildings are Paddock. If you look at the front of the building you will see the Carousel name.

I thought that whole section was called The Paddock. How many buildings are considered The Carousel section?

There are 5 buildings in the Paddocks, and they are the only ones open at this time. People staying in the Paddocks buildings are using the Carousel stop as it is closer to the first Paddock building.

The Carousel buildings are not yet open and are across the street from the Carousel bus stop.

I was sure this was right when I posted earlier but just to be sure I called and confirmed it. No carousel buildings open at this time.

Carousel will consist of only 2 buildings.

The other 4 new buildings will be the Grandstand.

Does anyone have any pics or could suggest a website with pics of SSR in general and esp. the new section?? Thanks :teeth:

My bad, the Carosel Stop is in front of the first Paddock Building. Since the Carousel bus stop was in front of that building, I assumed it was part of Carousel section.

I think it's strange that they'd put another themed pool and interactive play area in Grandstand rather than Carousel. Grandstand's just on the other side of the Carriage House, and I'd think it's almost as close to the main pool area as the Springs buildings.

It would have seemed more logical to put this new area in Carousel. The Carousel (and Paddock) buildings are pretty far from the main pool. In fact, there're out in the middle of nowhere. It would make more sense to have a bar, food venue, larger pool, and interactive play area out there.

I thought the same thing when I looked at the SSR map; perhaps there just wasn't room over in the Paddocks, but it would have balanced the placement of the pool/bar area better, IMHO.

It's a shame that they didn't think of that when they started planning the place. Does anyone have a map of what SSR is gonna look like when it's finished? I don't have the grandstand section in anything.

Yes. Here it is: Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa (all phases)

The section (with two buildings) encircled by white dots at the top of the map is the Carousel section. The section (with four buildings) encircled by white dots at the left side of the map is the Grandstand section.

It is somewhat confusing, and since they are all horses, easy mistake. :thumbsup2

You didn't get the "blue" book when you purchased at SSR? The complete map is in there, at least in mine it was.

I'm just guessing, but .......

A. I don't think there was room for a larger pool in Carousel.
B. Keeping all activity central around the lobby/food area, keeping everything close. You don't want to create two resorts out of one.
C. They didn't have an area like SAB to make one huge pool/play area, so they did the next best thing and put them in close proximinty to each other.

Remember that the lobby and spa buildings were already there from the Disney Institute, just rehabed. Alot of the infastracture was alaready existing and Disney had to make things fit within those structures/spaces. The current main pool area was an outdoor theater area.

I think for the most part, it works for me and my family. I do think the Turf Club and boat luanch are in not convient locations. But the rest of the resort works for me. I wonder what will become of the DVC preview area once they move out (of if they move out).

SSR is purportedly the permanent home of the sales center. The old movie theater is being renovated to be sample rooms for whatever resort is coming next.
