(I posted this in the Disney Resort forum but had no responses so i'm trying my luck here)

Sorry, I tried searching for more information about the gym here but after searching through the first 4 pages, I didn't really want to search any more

What is the fitness center like at SSR? I saw some pictures that showed a lot of bikes and weight machines (Nautilus?). Are there any eliptical machines? Are there any free weights (and if so, do you know how much the weight goes up to?)? Cable weights?

Thanks in Advance!

The gym is great. They do have free weights, but I don't know what they go up to. The place is loaded with machines and equipment. Plus lots of TVs to watch and plenty of towels and cold water. I wish we had gone more than once. Do they allow gym hoping for our next stay at OKW, I wonder?

I used the gym while there in June. They have every type of machine you could imagine. I can't tell you about the amount of weights, but the gym seemed very comprehensive to me in terms of types of equipment.

The only downside for me was that the equipment was so modern that that I was not completely familiar with how to use some of it--if you are familiar with typical resistance machines, they all have a certain structure, whereas some of this stuff was so modern that I had to put a little effort into figuring it out.

Great.

Thank you both for your replies. I was just curious so that I know what to expect when I work out. :)

As for the gym swapping, i'm sure that's not a problem. I stayed at OKW and not once did anyone check my room card or ask me where I was staying. In fact, there were hardly any personel on hand. Is the OKW gym better than the SSR gym?

When you say "plenty of cold water", do you mean for sale, from a fountain or just bottles available for the taking?

The water is fountain with plenty of cups available. Also, make sure you get the head phones/radio that is offered so you can tune into the tv...

GO PATS!

We were just in SSR; as long as you have your member ID, use of the spa facilities...gym, whirlpool, sauna, steam shower, showers, etc, is complimentary.
There's also a large container of cold ice water w/cups, hot water for tea and fruit in the spa lounge. I think that there may be a similar setup also in the gym bathroom area; DH went in for a quick shower and mentioned having some fruit, too, and he never went in the spa lounge. (You get to the downstairs locker/shower area thru the spa lounge.)
Very nice place!!

We used the SSR gym a few times when at OKW earlier this month. The gym part has two complete circuits. One circuit is the newest LifeFitness equipment which has much more range of motion resistance than the equipment at OKW which has the standard straight line resistance paths. The second circuit is Hammer Strength equipment. This equipment is for serious bodybuilding. Even saying that, both circuits would have enough resistance range for all but an Olympic powerlifter as the chest and shoulder machines go past 250# and the arm and leg curl machines go up to 200#. There is also a free weight area with barbells and dumbells and benches to do chest and arm fly's, curls, etc.

As far as elliptical equipment, they have the skier type elliptical machines.

A DVC member staying at a Disney hotel can use the gyms at WL, BC/YC, BW, OKW, or SSR by showing their key and DVC card. The SSR spa has the best sauna/steam/jacuzzi layout of the resorts listed above as it has more space to absorb a larger crowd.

Do you get to the sauna/steam rooms through the gym? Staying there in a couple weeks and wondering if sauna/steam will be accessible with fitness center open but spa closed.

I knew Boardwalk has a steam room in the locker room area and Animal Kimgdom Jambo has both in each gender’s lockerrom. Hoping it was the same at Saratoga Springs.

The spa facilities are not offered without a spa reservation. That was a big issue a few years ago and DVC made it clear the Spa was a separate operation from the gym facilities.
