I think the problem here is the precedent.

Legislating through social media can be dangerous, and this case shows exactly why.

The case went viral. Then the media jumped onto the bandwagon. Then, the decision-makers are backed into a corner, and these are the repercussions of it.

If anything, maybe this will allow things to happen through the proper channels, if something like this were to ever happen again.
