Just booked a last minute trip. Car rental prices are through the roof! Even Costco wants $500 for a mid-size. What to do???

You are renting during the busiest times of year so don't expect great prices even with priceline.

But keep looking on here for discount codes.

midsize is $336/week including fees with dollar. I inputed 'SFB' which is the Sanford airport code on the search box at http://www.rentalcodes.com/florida.html. That's about as good as you'll get this late around the holidays in Sanford which is usually higher than Orlando. Be careful too....they do start running out of vehicles during those peak times if you wait too long to reserve.
One caveat. I've rented from Dollar there, they did have a long line at the counter when I went to pick up the vehicle.

Join the Dollar Express program and you don't have to stand in line with regular renters. You get a designated line which is way shorter. The program is free. And you enter all your preferance when you join and you have to answer all those rental insurance questions at the counter which will save you time. Be should to click the button on the yellow "city special" line to get some great deals too. It will populate when you are given the chose to pick the car class you want.

Just because you rented a car doesn't guarentee that they will have a car for you! Twice in the past 3 months I flew to Nashville and both time Dollar was completely out of cars! Had to wait for one to be turned in. Thankfully I had rented the compact but ended up with a bigger car because that was the next available car.

Try Avis using a citi leisure code from flyertalk using A074800 and Coupon MUWA028 for $35 off. A midsize is $183 inc taxes. Register for Avis Preferred Services which is free and go straight to car and avoid lineup. You will also get a free upgrade. I have used it before no issue and will be using it next weekend again.
