:goodvibes Hi - My DD5 is nuts about sandals and hates wearing tennies! Will we be ok with a good pair of sandals or should I insist she wear tennies with socks! You know how 5 year old girls can be with their clothes! Yikes! :rotfl:

When are you going? If it's warm enough, sandals should be fine. Our DS3 wore sandals the whole time in Sept and did great. Just make sure the sandals are comfy!!

My DD's both wore sandals the whole time. I just try to keep her from wear flip flop type sandals because I don't want them falling off all the time.

I'm originally from Dubuque!

My thought is bring both. Make sure to get very comfy waterproof sandals and tennies that will dry easily. I just bought my DD a pair of Lands End sandals at Sears that seem very nice for $15 (you can also get them from the Lands End website). I'd advise against leather sandals. I plan to have one pair on DD's feet and one pair of shoes in the backpack. DS is little enought that we have to have a bag for diapers anyway. Make sure whatever she wears that they are well broken in. She may end up in a stroller -its a ton of walking for little legs no matter the shoes! ;)

HI! I am originally from WI but moved to Iowa about 12 years ago due to a job relocation! Thanks for the reply...I saw those sandals in Lands End also and thought about getting them! Guess I should do that soon as we leave May 19th YEAH!!

My DD wore sandals most days our last trip, she was 3 1/2. She will also wear little keds and stuff so we had those too, depended on the outfit, LOL!!!

This trip she will be 5 1/2 and I plan on bringing both, but I'm sure the sandals (quite a few pair, LOL) will get the most wear.

Wear whatever is most comfortable, but bring both. You never know when you might develop a blister and a change of shoes helps to take the pressure off.

Bring both. I pack their shoes and they wear the sandals. They'll alternate wearing shoes and sandals thruout the entire trip. Sometimes they'll wear sandals during the day and shoes during the night.

Personally, I'm always reluctant to allow our kids to wear sandals when we are touring around, as much as they love them. I used to sell shoes in a sportswear store when I was younger and a good pair of running shoes will be much more comfortable in the long run, provide much more support and, IMHO, give them more energy at the end of the day.

Also, I am always worried about much bigger people stepping on their feet in crowds or having people run over their feet with strollers or, like what happened to DS during vacation last year, getting his toes caught caught in the space between the floor and the bottom of a heavy fire door in our resort as he was opening it...ouch! I'm not sure how much better having shoes and socks would be in any of those situations but it's got to be better than sandaled feet. I'm probably a little more paranoid than others on this topic because both my DD and DS have "lost" (and regrown) the nails on one of their big toes when they were much younger through various mishaps.

OUCH!! Sorry that happened to your kids and now I will be having visuals all day of it. *Cringe*

Anyway, for you that bought sandals at Lands End... which ones did you get? We have the catalog and I think there are more than one style. Also, has anyone ever tried their "slip-on tennies"? How are they?

Thanks~

In the catalog they are called Kids' Splash Sandals on page 71 of my catalog. On the website they are called Action Sandals, but they are exactly the same. I bought them at Sears to avoid the shipping fee, but they have limited colors and sizes -they started at a youth size 9. My DD has big feet for a 3 1/2 year old!

I am bringing both sneakers & pool shoes for my boys. I prefer that my boys wear the sneakers while we are at the parks -I am always afraid that one of them will stub their toes or something awful like that if they wear sandels.I love the pool shoes for the water parks & pools. They are great for the water rides and the pools. Plus their little toes are covered from getting hurt. ;)
