Hear me out. Day of arrival. Single dad and 2 boys, 11 and 7. Checking in at AS Sports and going to lunch. Have a reservation at 12:50 for Sanaa, but could switch to Rainforest. Seems like traveling there will be difficult. We are startint at AK, so if we go just to Rainforest that would be less travel. What do you think?

I would personally head straight to the Animal Kingdom and eat there. I would either do Rainforest or Yak and Yeti. I think the kids would have more fun at RF Cafe, but Yak and Yeti has better food and if you get to sit upstairs by a window it's a great view overlooking the park. If you are able to schedule your ADR during the parade you can watch it while you're eating.

There is also a RF Cafe at Downtown Disney (Disney Springs). We have eaten there plenty of times without making a reservation. It's only the two of us and we go off season. We have to wait ten minutes or so, but it's never a big deal.

Have fun!

PS - If you aren't driving you would have to either take a taxi/Uber from AS Sports to The Animal Kingdom Lodge for Sanaa or take a Disney bus from AS Sports to The Animal Kingdom and then take a bus from the Animal Kingdom to the Animal Kingdom Lodge which would be a hassle. Either way I would skip Sanaa and head right to the park to eat.

That being said and with you being a single dad with 2 boys, I suggest checking out Whispering Canyon Cafe in the Wilderness Lodge. The CM's have a lot of fun with their guests kids usually like it. Also 50's Prime Time Cafe and the Sci Fi Dine In in DHS.

OH!! And you can't forget about The Kitchen Sink at Beaches and Cream at The Beach Club:

Sanaa has the most amazing food! If you can't make it there I highly recommend Yak & Yeti.

If your goal is to hit the park after lunch, then a 12:50 reservation at Sanaa is a bad idea. Animal Kingdom closes early.

That said, I'd pick Sanaa over Rainforest Cafe.

how many days are you in the world? is it your only AK day? the park does close earlier than other parks, but I think Sanaa is tons of fun. especially if your kids like animals--with a time crunch I wouldn't wait for a window table, but you could spend a few minutes before/after eating outside watching animals.

I guess to me it would come down to how much there is in AK that you/your kids want to do, whether you'll have more time to go back to the park, and how into animals they are. the food at Sanaa is good, but the animal viewing is the best part to me.

oh and is there a parade at AK these days?

Sanaa is much, much better food then Rainforest. I like the idea of a counter service meal at AK and then a dinner reservation at Sanaa.

Going resort to resort is very difficult.

Since you're already trying to do this upon arrival - Rainforest.

Also, when you're done at Rainforest, as you've mentioned, you're at AK.

As much as I enjoy Sanaa, makes no sense to me unless you're going on non-Park day and/or you're staying at AK.

The isn't a parade in AK.

I haven't eaten at either restaurant, but I would choose Rainforest Café (or Yak & Yeti) based on convenience and the ages of your kids. It also might be a fun start to the trip for them and you wouldn't lose any time traveling. If they are adventurous eaters and might appreciate Sanaa, I'd consider trying to get a dinner reservation instead.

I didn't realize they ended the Jammin Jungle Parade. Do they have any plans on replacing it with anyone?
It ended about a year and a half ago. If they replace it at all, I doubt that it will be before Avatarland is complete.

Sanaa hands down. We finally got the chance to eat there this trip and it became our second favorite meal after Boma. Rainforest Cafe is no better then Applebee's at twice the price.

If your arrival day is also your AK park day, I would recommend Yak and Yeti. Great atmosphere, great food. If getting an ADR is an issue, consider joining Landry's club - it guarantees priority seating, you accrue points for money off coupons as well as birthday discounts. RF is just an overpriced, dark ChuckECheese in my opinion. If arrival day is not your AK day, then making time for Sanaa is worth it.
