Hi, we are going to SF/SJ area tomorrow of 3 days, 2 nights.

Looking for some rec. from locals for good restaurants. Nothing too fancy, it'll be my DM70, DD10, and myself.

Also any tips for things to see at Golden Gate Park as well.

TIA. I should be able to use my computer while there.

Never mind-we got back last night and had a nice trip.:goodvibes

I will post a mini TR later.

Mini-mini report

Flew SW-loved it.
Rented at Alamo-got a Chevy HHR-loved it.
Stayed at Embassy Suites, Burlingame. Great rate. So So Manager's reception. Great Free Cooked to order breakfast! Great pool. Good room
Golden Gate Park-did the new museum-really good. Pretty expensive though, but worth it. Food was outrageous.
Drove down the coast yesterday from Half Moon Bay to Santa Cruz. Great drive.
Ghiradelli Square-had a sundae. Great sauce, okay ice cream.
Crossed over GG bridge.
Visited Muir Woods-very nice.
Used a few restaurant.com certificates.
Skipped Fisherman's Wharf, didn't ride Cable Cars, didn't go down Lombard St. (did see it though)

Can't wait for your trip report! Sounds like you had fun and skipped the usual tourist stuff! If you ever go back or for others planning a trip heres my take on the tourist areas.

Cable cars can be a fun ride but the lines can be horrible on the tourist routes. They are part of the SF bus system so a bus pass will also allow you to ride the cable cars.

Fishermans Wharf is lots of fun despite it being very touristy. We enjoy Scomas which is a great restaurant on the water. It is a bit back behind all the tourist action and is why its one of our favorites.

The seals on pier 39 are always entertaining but the rest of the pier is packed with tourists.

Kids love the exploratoriam. A large place for kids to learn about science while having a blast playing with all the gizmo and gadgets.

If driving south to Disneyland etc. and have the time, take 101. Much more scenic than I-5. The boardwalk at Santa Cruz reminds me of decades gone by with fun rides and a fun beach.

Monterrey Wharf is what SF wharf used to be many decades ago. For lunch or dinner try Dominico's on the pier. Great food, sights and atmosphere. Monterrey Aquarium is one of the best in the country.

Much further south stop for breakfast or lunch at Fat Cats at Port San Luis at Avila Beach. It's a locals favorate with fantastic food and a great ocean view.

Thanks.

I've actually eaten at Scoma's several times and I really like it. I think I ate there about 25 or so years ago with my dad and my DM and I have eaten there twice since. We didn't eat there this time, but we did eat at another Italian restaurant that was good.

We didn't have time to stop in Santa Cruz but sounds like the boardwalk would be a nice place to stop.

I agree driving down the 101 is a much pretty drive than the 5. This trip, since we were limited on time, we flew down. Less than 1-1/2 hours from SJ to ONT. Very nice!

TR still to come. I'm doing the Census now so my leisure hours have been severely reduced.
