My daughter and I are going for the first time to San Angel Inn in July. I would love to hear comments from anyone who has eaten there and what there opinion is of the restaurant. Thanks in advance for your help.

San Angel Inn is one of those restaurants that gets many mixed reviews. I allowed the negative reviews to keep me away from this place for 5 years before finally deciding to give it a try. And what was the result? I love the place. SAI is nothing like your typical around the corner Tex-Mex restaurant in just about any town in this country. I think for some it's a bit of a shock and perhaps a reason for some of the negative reviews. Others (myself included) love that it's not the typical local Mexican restaurant and give it good reviews. I myself would rate the food as good, the service as average and the atmosphere as incredible. I do wish the tables were not as close to each other though.

We love SAI as well. It was our favorite meal on our Christmas trip last year.

I agree. We love the food there but also wish there was more room in-between the tables. I feel bad for the servers trying to maneuver through there in the dark

Ate there in January and it was great. Loves the chips and salsa and the carne-asada was delicious.

We loved it this past summer. It was one of my favourite meals of the trip. The food was good (everyone in our party of 6 liked it, even the picky one I was worried about) and so was the service.

We've had Lunch and Dinner there several times.
The atmosphere is superior but with very dim lighting.
The staff seem to do as well as they can considering the cramped dining area.
I've seem food and drink hit the floor more than once because someone stood up as a waiter was passing by.
The food is more authentic that the chain Mexican restaurants and of decent quality, although the portions are a bit skimpy.
Be prepared for a jolt if you eat Lunch there and walk outside into the Florida mid day sun.
Indoors it's always night.

I enjoyed it, and the atmosphere is wonderful. Seeing the Gran Fiesta Tour boats go by makes it feel like the Blue Bayou in DL.

I resisted trying it. I live in Texas and there are an abundance of Mexican restaurants here. But I LOVE SAI. I grew up going to DL and as the PP said, it reminds me of the Blue Bayou. The food is great, the service has always been very good and we have always gotten seated by the water. I hope you give it a try and enjoy it as much as I have!

For us, it's a restaurant we tried once and won't be back to. While the food was ok and we really went for the atmosphere and enjoyed that, it was absolutely the worst service we've ever experienced, in or out of Disney. Our waiter was very rude and very slow and just turned us off from the restaurant entirely. This was about 3 years ago, so maybe he's gone (hopefully) but either way for us I just don't see us going back. Obviously many people do go and have good experiences and hopefully that's what you'll have, it just wasn't our experience.

I made an ADR which I nearly cancelled several times based on reviews here. But DH and DS wanted to go, so we went.
It was great. It was the surprise of our trip. I enjoyed the food and our service was great.

This has gotten such bad reviews over the years. We went in January and really liked it. I was so convinced it would be bad I decided to share a meal with my husband; I wished I had ordered my own.

Food was nicely presented and hot. Portions are not huge: not a place I would suggest sharing. Server was really nice and efficient.

I was going to say almost the same thing. WE ate there in December, and unless you count that crowding issue, which was not as bad as some have experienced, the meal was really good. The service was impeccable, and the staff was friendly. I plan on booking again when we return in December.

I'd definitely like to see some more room between the tables there - you're a bit close to the people on either side for full comfort. But then, that's pretty typical in restaurants in NYC, so it's not a dealbreaker for me. We haven't been in a while, but when we did go, we really enjoyed the food and the ambiance. That cool, relaxing nighttime scene makes such a great contrast with the bright Florida sun! And we've had good service there, too.

If someone isn't familiar with more "authentic" (this is still Disney) Mexican options, I can see how the menu would throw them for a loop - it isn't the stuff you can get at Chili's or Chipotle. Like someone else commented above, there's a good chance some of the bad reviews are from people who were expecting Tex-Mex and felt let down when they didn't find familiar food on the menu. And someone else above said they had bad service - clearly, at any time/place, that is a possibility as well. (Even good waiters have a bad day, and sometimes, a person who really shouldn't be interacting with the public manages to get a job doing just that... I'd hope that the rude waiter mentioned above either set himself straight or was let go.)

In any case, I'd say San Angel Inn is worth a try, if you're all for trying something new. :)

We like it a lot. I agree it is very cramped. You are kind of sitting on top of the people at the next table.

I love it, one of my favorites! It's not the typical Mexican restaurant menu, but I always love my food. If you score a table nearest the volcano, bonus! But the whole atmosphere is amazing.

It's a good place. Not really sure why people dislike it. Great atmosphere and solid food.

We love to go there- kids like to ride the boat after they order, while waiting for food. Then again run over while we are taking care of the check. Not a huge fan of the food, and it's not cheap, but the margarita's? Yes.

We love it. My son just reminded me that we haven't been there in over a year so I made an ADR for our next trip. If our DS15 would stop making us eat every meal in Japan (either at Tokyo Dining or Katsura Grill), we might have more time to go back to our old favorites...

We love it. The dark atmosphere and the ride are fun. Margaritas are good. And when it is hot out it is a nice cool, relaxing break.
