We are doing the Candlelight Processional on Dec. 15th. We wanted to do the package with Teppan Edo but it was booked. Our only option was San Angel Inn. I haven't heard much about it. Any feedback on this restaurant would be great.

I'm also interested in reviews for San Angel since it was the only CP booking available for December 1. The last time we ate there was about 3-4 years ago and we weren't impressed.

We ate there two weeks ago. The food was vey good, the service was great and the theming is just about the best of the Epcott restaurants.
The food is authentic Mexican-not Tacos and such.

I have read some good and many bad reviews of San Angel Inn, but the atmosphere is SOOOO to die for, I decided I HAVE to try it for myself in November. I am so jealous of the people eating there when we ride by on the boat! I really hope I like the food, but if not, I'm going to enjoy a nice margarita and just soak in that brilliant ambiance! ;) Good luck!

I just finished posting a review of San Angel Inn...we ate there for lunch on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009. Really enjoyed it: pictures and details in the September 2009 review below...think it starts on post 47.

I have no idea why so many people post bad reviews about this place.. not only is the atmosphere just amazing, but the food is pretty darn good! I've been to many authentic mexican restaurants.. and this def. rates in the top! food is fresh, hot, well proportioned and service is wonderful..i wouldnt worry if i were you:thumbsup2

We love the tortilla soup and the Mole Poblano (chicken Mole) at the San Angel Inn! The atmosphere can't be beat.

The atmosphere is great, but the food in 2007 (the 2nd and last time that I ate there) was only so-so with hefty price tags attached. Admittedly, I am Hispanic, so my tastes are VERY picky when it comes to "Mexican" food. With the dining plan, it is ok, but I prefer other places, if I can get them. It is not like Taco Bell or Del Taco...more like On the Border...ok, but not what I get when I go to Mexico or home. To be fair, I would not avoid this restaurant or send any food back, but the offerings are just OK in my mind (whereas some of the other restaurants at WDW just blow me away). :) Check out the menu on the DIS page http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining/diningdetail.cfm?Restaurant.ID=93#menu You can see if you are familiar with these offerings. Reviews on here are also another great resource...finding out why someone praised or panned a place is sometimes helpful. Good luck!! and bon appetit! (or buen provecho, as we say)popcorn::

To me San Angel is very good, we have never been disappointed and we have eaten there many times. That and Tokyo Dining are our favorite places to dine in Epcot.

Its not Tex Mex which seems to be the variety of Mexican food most Americans are used to. So if On the Border is your favorite place, San Angel will feel very different.

I once called it authentic and was called an idiot on this very board for doing so, but to me it does remind me of the food some of my Mexican friends have served when I dine at their houses. Mexico has many different regions and I am not exactly sure what region San Angel style food comes from, but I do like it personally! They do serve Tostitos since like many other WDW eatieries, this one is sponsored by a well known name/brand.

I love their filet, their tortilla soup and their combo plate is also tasty. Oh, and the nachos with the sausage are also good and they let me order that as my entree last time I was on the DDP. I also like the mole.

I know a lot of people don't care for it, but that hasn't stopped us from enjoying some wonderful meals there and we don't intend to stop doing so!

Definitely give it a try. And I agree about the atmsophere, it reminds me a bit of the Blue Bayou in Disneyland.

Oh! I didn't mean to accidentally imply that the food there was Tex-Mex. I just had a hard time thinking of a national chain of Mexican food...most around here are locally owned places. The food on the menu is from different regions, and I think meant to cater to different palates. It does taste like a professional made it, so I did not mean to convince you not to go...I just wanted to be totally honest and say that I am just too picky for my own good when it comes to Mexican food.

To be more specific: I prefer my family's version of the mole (ours is spicier and the chicken is sauteed in it for at least 1/2 of the day...and I was served a chicken mole that had the mole as a sauce to top it at San Angel Inn, maybe an off day for the chef??). We put meat, cheese, and veggies in the chile relleno (and I think that there were just veggies in the one we were served), and other such minimal differences that are the reason why I just prefer to eat elsewhere. The tacos al pastor were just ok as I am not a fan of the pina on my tacos, and I am not a fan of their version of Mexican rice. Our family eats chilaquiles for breakfast, so I did not order it for dinner...plus I am so not a fan any tortilla chip that is not fresh, even Tostitos. The fish tacos that my dad ordered looked delicious, but were served on flour tortillas. Along the Pacific Coast, fish tacos are huge, but I have always eaten them on corn tortillas...a subtle taste preference. That is what I meant by it's OK Mexican food, and I am probably just TOO picky.

Please forgive me if I offended anyone, as that was not my intention at all. I am just too picky when it comes to Mexican food (and maybe there is someone else out there that is too and would be helped by my brutal honesty). Please understand that I am writing without any malice or any desire to enrage anyone,...everyone's tastes are different. That was all that I meant to express.:grouphug:

I think if your going without a lot of expectations for this to be like some others have said....Tex Mex, then you'll be fine with this resturant.
Although I will throw in....inspite of the amazing atmosphere here, the tables are so close together it felt very closed in, I think the only thing that saved me from feeling like I needed to get out of there was the fact we were seated next to the water/ride, where everything was beautiful and open.
I looove the ambience here, without a doubt you can't beat that, but....I was very disappointed in the food...and the service wasn't great.
I guess I should have known better since I live in Texas and have come to like my Mexican to be a certain way. ;)
Since everyone has their own taste for what food should be like, I'll give you a great place to look up reviews and that way you'll get an idea of what is good and what is bad about it, I find if there are an even mix of good and bad reviews AND it's some place we end up eating....then I pick the thing that everyone raves over. (Like Mama Melroses's, some bad dishes and some really great!)
AllEars.Net - Try this for reviews and you won't be disappointed, it's not worth not eating here in order for you to do the Candlelight Processional.

This is on my to do list for next year. My dh & ds would like it but me being a plain eater I was going to go for the Filet. So I 'm very happy you posted this.
Can't wait the atmosphere is so nice in here.

Wants2Live@WDW: I do think if you are Hispanic and used to eating these foods on a regular basis this one would be hard pressed to really satisfy! I know I feel that way about certain things. My mother was a true southern cook and I have to laugh when I read people who say the fried chicken at Prime Time is wonderful because to me it tastes like what my Kroger deli serves! Ditto with Le Cellier, I have had enough really wonderful, ranch raised beef in my life (my uncle was a cattle rancher in Texas) not to consider that anything special.

I don't think you could find too many places in WDW that serve something that is cooked with love all day long, too many people to serve. I know many Italians feel about Tony's just the way you do about SAI. So its good to be honest and to explain why you don't have SAI tops on your list.

But I doubt there is a single place in Epcot that the natives of that land would think "omg, I am eating at my mom's"!

We ate there on our first trip and it was very good. I was expecting a tex mex style place but was told that it wasn't tex mex style, to expect more authentic style food. They were right, it was very nice. The atmosphere as everyone said is wonderful. The food very good. I would eat there again. Don't be worried.

I think I'd like to eat dinner at your house! :)

ate there two weeks ago and it was lovely. The whole meal was without exception well cooked/seasoned and presented. The waiter was prompt and friendly. We had a table for 2 at the water and it was lovely. We were waving at the people in the boats :goodvibes

Best atmosphere at WS, IMO. Looks like you're from Syracuse, OP - this'll be more authentic than most of the so-called Mexican offerings in CNY. We enjoyed it very much!

Now that sounds cool. Can't wait to go.
