What are your thoughts on these two? Does anyone prefer one over the other? Is their food a lot different?I have ADRs for both and wondering which to cancel!

We like the atmosphere at San Angel better, although in the past their tables have been very close together so hopefully that’s not a concern now. We prefer the menu at Hacienda, especially because the chicken mole at San Angel is not currently on the menu.

Agree with this, not the part about the chicken but do like the menu better at La Hacienda.

The atmosphere in San Angel Inn is beautiful, except they used to pack in the tables far too tightly. When it reopens, hopefully that will be improved.
The food was average at best.
I would do La Hacienda as the food was much better.

We like both, the food at La Hacienda might be a little better but we always go with San Angel for two reasons: we typically do our TS meal at lunch and San Angel takes TIW, La Hacienda does not.

La Hacienda tends to get better food reviews. Its more bright and airy. San Angel Inn is dark with a different ambiance. I don't know much about Mexican food, but I've read their menus represent two different areas/cuisines of Mexico, so you may find one menu appeals to your group more than the other.

I would also add in the current environment, there are often waits to get into the Mexico pavilion without an ADR. If visiting the Mexico pavilion, riding Gran Fiesta Tour, or getting a drink at La Cava is important to you, it may be beneficial to book San Angel Inn so you can be let in without waiting.

La Hacienda for the food. Much better in my opinion. We go almost every trip as it is a must do for us.

One upside to an ADR at San Angel is it guarantees you immediate access to the pyramid instead of having to queue. This is pretty clutch on weekends and as we head into the holidays. Their queso fundido was surprisingly decent and their margaritas seemed to be the same served at La Cava.

I went to both. I got the fish at la hacienda. I got the grilled chicken on potatoes with this creamy corn sauce at San Angel. I hated the fish. I loved the chicken so much we went back to San angel again. Go with San angel and get the chicken.

Menus are quite different - I'd let that decide for you!

Can anyone report - did they take tables OUT of San Angel for the pandemic? It was always just so stupid crowded in there.

That might be the deciding factor right there. Overall, I think the menu at La Hacienda looks better but with the lines to get into the pavilion, we may do San Angel. There were still some menu items there that looked good to me as well.

I personally love San Angel Inn. The food between the two isn't enough of a difference to pass on the atmosphere. Absolutely love it.

Already have ADR for my mid-December trip.

I'm not sure it would help you with La Cava. When we were there and there was a line to get in, they were splitting people off inside for the La Cava line or just going into the pavilion. Not sure they'd let you cut everyone in the big line.

We love San Angel so much.
Not the food, mind you, but the atmosphere! 😂🙊
Always been disappointed by the main courses but we have gone there just for the tortilla soup (which is delicious) and of course the obligatory margaritas, easier than standing in line forever at La Cava.
Enjoy that, then have a main meal later on somewhere else IMHO.
