San Angel Inn: Mexico

We are heading to WDW in Oct. and have read very conflicting reviews about the San Angel Inn. I have 3 children, 1 eats anything, 1 is only slightly picky and 1 that eats hardly anything. Any idea if they would enjoy this resturant?

I have been there with a 6 yr old and an 8 yr old who like mexican food (chi-chi's, Don Pablos etc). This food is not like that. The kids didn't like anything. We (including the adults) had poor food and poor service. Yes the atmosphere is nice but not worth the $$$ for bad food and service.

I don't know where you are from or your background.......but it really depends on you.

I live in the southwest and eat Mexican food on a daily basis. The place (actually both places) in the Mexican pavillion are very "americanized". To me, they are like a VERY expensive Taco Bell.

We like it, and the four other adults and two children we've been with have liked it. But it isn't "Tex-Mex" (Don Pablos, Taco Bell - not a taco, fajita or chimichanga on the dinner menu - and the burrito and enchilda platter really seems to be an afterthought to appease the people who came for a burrito). I haven't been to Mexico, so I can't speak for its authenticity. We've had fine service and great food there twice.

Check out the menu and see what its like. You will get conflicting reviews on this one (but then even restaurants nearly everyone loves have their detractors, and even the ones few people like have someone who thinks the food is wonderful).

BTW, the lunch menu is very different and appears much more Tex Mex - with tacos and flautas and tamales. I've only eaten dinner here.

I think the kids menu has more standard Tacos and such. This is one of our favorite restaurants, we rarely miss it.

It's a really pretty place and I love the food, but my husband and brother in law who are not really picky eaters, had a hard time finding something on the menu they liked. There is a little take out across the way from San Miguel Inn with a great Mexican menu if you're not set on a sit down meal. The prices are a lot less expensive and you'll probably have a better chance of finding soemthing for the kids there. Hope you enjoy you're meal. : )

We ate lunch at San Angel Inn last year. We enjoyed it but like most WDW sit down dining-it is kinda expensive for what you get. Here are links to the menus-the kids' menu is pretty standard-chicken strips, burgers, etc. We have also eaten at the cantina several times and really like it. We didn't see anything on the kids' menu they would eat but I asked if they could make a cheese quesadilla and they did!!

We ate there in May, the day we arrived in Disney. We were starving since we hadn't eaten all day. The restaurant is beautiful, it felt like we were eating outside at night. We thought the food was pretty good. I ordered a meal with steak and I think an enchilada. The steak was undercooked for me but since I was starving, I ate most of it. My daughters ate from the kids menu so there was no problem there. We were seated right away, at 4:30 in the afternoon. Our meals arrived quickly too. It's a great place to go on a hot day to escape the heat.

I've eaten luch and dinner there. Loved the lunched menu- HATED the dinner menu. Lunch is probably more of the tex mex that we are use to here.

I ate there a few years back with my mom, who is not a picky eater but isn't a fan of Mexican cuisine. I had mole poblano, which was quite good. She thought it was too dark and really had problems finding something she liked. I forget what she finally settled on. I thought it was quite beautiful and enjoyed the meal.

I think the lunch is much more of your "normal" mexican dishes. Dinner tends to be more "exotic" if you want to call it that.

We love this restaurant for lunch. The kids meal's are really basic, and I think the only mexican food is a chicken quesadilla. The kids loved the quesadilla.

The atmospher is great here. My dh really loved this restaurant!

I'm surprised kids wouldn't find something to eat here--as someone else said, it's pretty Americanized. When we tired this place, my kids were 3 & 6. Like most kids, they don't want to eat anything that looks weird, and they didn't have a problem. Mom and dad, however, really didn't like the food. There's a large Mexican population where we live and some very authentic restaraunts. We were disappointed.

We ate at San Angel about 3 weeks ago, and the kids ordered quesadillas and chicken strips. There is usually something kid friendly on any WDW restaurant menu.

I am also sure that, if you asked for something that is available on the lunch menu but not the dinner menu, they would make it for you.
