Same UY or different UY for second contract?

I am about to close on a small resale contract with a March UY, and as soon as I have a member ID I plan to buy 125 points direct at a different resort.
My favorite time to travel is October-December, but with kids getting into middle school (thus harder to take days off), we may be doing more trips in June as soon as the summer starts.
Should I get the direct contract for a different UY, like September or October, for fall travel getaways? Or should we keep it as March to make it less complicated?
Of note, if we decide to sell some points down the line, we would sell our resale contract, but keep the direct contract.

It will be hard to get Disney to allow you to switch the UY unless you are getting a fixed week possibly. They really do not like doing that.

Honestly I prefer 1 UY even with the recent changes.

I will also say I have a April UY and travel as late as January. Just always borrow never bank points if you can and avoid canceling at 30 days or less and having your points going in to holding. If you happen to need to cancel last second in October as an example I would likely just look to rent out the reservation/points at that point.

I would encourage getting the same UY so it all falls under the same membership. With multiple YU you will have multiple memberships you have to work with. Which can be a hassle when wanting to use at the 7mo mark and I believe it will involve more necessary interactions with member services.

If you want to use the points together for a single reservation, then one UY is what you want,

Two UYs means two memberships which forces you to book som nights on one, some on the other, or transfer points...which can not already be banked or borrowed...to the other one.

I do have two UYs, but one has 475 points and the will soon have 325. I do a lot of split stays but when we don’t, I book trips differently on each membership, even if it means borrowing when I have points in the other membership.

Since you are buying 125 direct...the minimum...you will be able to get DVD to sell it to you...but it may take you telling them that is all you will take as they do try to keep you with the same one.

Good luck

I think March UY sounds fine for this. But if you get another year worth of points for October, I have to say that would be tempting.

Are you buying the 125 direct for blue card benefits? If so, be aware of the strong rumor that the minimum requirement for that is going up to 150 effective June 3.

FWIW, I would keep the March use year unless you are VERY SURE that you will not ever want to combine points. March use years will "protect" trips in every month except December, January & February. By "protect", I mean the ability to bank points if you have to cancel a trip. Weigh improving "protection" for a possible December cancellation for those trips against the inconvenience of booking with points from both use years (for the same trip) and the increased possibility of encountering account issues. (In my experience many/most of the website "glitches" seem to occur when the Member has multiple memberships/use years. I've had very, very few with my one membership - a master and an add-on, same use year, same resort, same membership). June 3 is next week.

You have a decision to make! Good luck!

Thank you all so much! Going to stick with March use year. Now just have to decide whether to buy 125 points Tuesday as a new member or 150 with member discount after we close on resale.

Great decision. If can budget for the 150 change, I’d stay patient and not buy anything direct until your membership account is established. It will be a very quick purchase transaction.
