Can anyone tell me their experience doing same day standby for Delta?

We have flights that leave at nearly 2:30pm (was 2:10 but I guess they changed them) and have a 3hr layover in Atlanta which doesn't get us to Orlando until 8:30pm.

There are a ton of flights that are leaving Indy much earlier starting at 6am and would get us into Orlando before lunchtime.

I want to do stand by but I'd like to know what other people's experiences have been.

Delta doesn't do traditional standby. Instead they have something called "Same Day Confirmed". You call them 3 hours before your desired flight and for an additional $50/person they will confirm you on an earlier (or later) flight if space is available.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to see if the reservations office is open 24hrs as I'd have to call at like 3am to confirm us on a 6am flight.

Their reservation line is 24 hours. The big issue will be availability. I had a flight last Friday ATL-PIT for work, leaving 4:30. I got done at the office early and went online to check on the 2:30 flight, it was soldout. So when I went to check-in online for the 4:30, a message came up that they were looking for volunteers.

They are open 24/7. I've done it for a 6:00 am flight.

well that's good. :thumbsup2

There are about 40 open seats on each leg of the 6am flight and similar on the other morning flights. So hopefully, there will still be availability. *fingers crossed*

Open seats isn't necessarily an accurate indicator of available seating, and things could change dramatically in the next four weeks.

You also want to check alternate options in your connecting city; and note that your party could be separated on one or both flights even if your successful in getting the same day standby.
