Samantha & Dave's PJ... 2/8/10 WP/ADH, PS TR Started Pg 78!

Sam.. i will pop to my neighbours house as she used to be a tailor and dress maker and i will show her the pic of the dress back and ask her if it can be altered.... i will be back on here soon to let you know!! (heh, first i need to get my butt up from watching SATC and drinking my wine!) ....

Hun, i wouldnt worry!! I will let you know what she says...:flower3:

Oh Sam! I am sooo sorry about your dress.:sad1: That is such a wonderful story behind it and I can't imagine how disapointed you must be! Drink that wine girl:rotfl:... you'll feel better in no time:lmao:! In all seriousness though do you think there is ANY chance it can be altered? I know taking a dress in is way easier than letting it out but maybe a super duper talented seamstress could do it? Otherwise does the designer still make the dress? :idea:Maybe you could just order the same dresss in the right size? On a happier note... I am still working my way back through everything I've missed in your PJ. It looks like your trip was amazing with lots of Pixie dust... Grand Marshalls are you kidding me? You are one lucky girl even if the dress won't fit! Hang in there girl!:grouphug:

Thanks Adelia, I am pretty upset about the dress, but I am going to try and get creative... I was just so upset last (still am really, but oh well).
I am glad your back, we missed you on here! And being Grand Marshal is probably cooler then a wedding dress lol!

Hey Sam! I see your posts all over the place, but I just now had a chance to check out your PJ. I still have a lot to catch up on, but so far everything looks great. I love the pics of you and your DF! You guys are adorable together. And I totally love your engagement pictures!!!

About your dress - why don't you take it to see if it is possible to have it altered? If not, can you possibly have a new one created with the material out of it? Maybe have a dressmaker add in some panels to change it around a bit, but still keep the basic idea. I'm sure that there is some way to make it work! Keep your chin up!

Thanks for coming over:) The Epics were a lot of fun:thumbsup2.
I am thinking about what options I have with the dress, hopefully we will think of something.

Oh Sam! Sorry to hear about the dress. I'm sure there will be someway to honor your grandmother. Is there anyway to have it altered or use it to make another dress (I think I read someone on here doing that)!?

Well, go ahead and drink your wine, that will help for now anyway. Sorry to hear that!

Yes, the wine helped for sure but I am still trying to think about what to do with it... I got a recommendation of a good tailor so I may take it by this week to see what can be done... hopefully theycan do something

Oh no Sam!

Well I was going to say what Tanya said, but she posted it while I was flipping back to see the pics of your dress haha.

Seriously though take it to a seamstress. I had a bridesmaid dress that was too small last year and Carolyn Allen's did a fantastic job of making it fit. Granted it was only one size too small. But you never know, maybe like Tanya said they can piece together a new dress. Is your grandmothers dress still around, the one she wore at her wedding? Maybe the two dresses can be combined into something even more fabulous and more meaningful.

Just remember that everything happens for a reason and it may seam like a terrible thing now, but I'm sure in the end it will work out. :grouphug:

thanks Becky, I think your right, I will see about a tailor then if not I guess it's time to go shopping again... oh well:confused3

Sam, I'm so sorry about the dress. I hope you are able to get it altered.

If you can't, can you incorporate parts of it into another dress?

I thought of that, but a part of me hates the idea of cutting up my dress for some reason... I guess if I could make something else into it it would be ok...

Awe Sam:hug:

Dont worry sweetie i'm sure something will be figured out. Most of the girls already said what i was thinking, like letting the dress out, or incorporating it dress with your GM's wedding dress to make it more meaningful, ect. You've been having so much pixie dust in your life lately that something good will defiantly come out of this. :goodvibes

I asked my dad if her wedding dress was around anywhere but she left in Cuba when she immigrated so I think thats out lol! But I taking it in next week so hopefully we'll see something.

Oh Sam that story is lovely!! Is there anything you can do with the dress?? You could always save it and make it a christening gown (if you are planning on kids...). Or maybe use part of it in the wedding in another way???

I do like that idea a lot actually! I guess it could be a special gown for a christening and have even more meaning. Great idea Mandy! Thank you for it:goodvibes

Ok....55 pages done. whoo...only took 4 days and basically only reading your PJ, haha. First off, the whole thing sounds amazing! I love the way you write, and your ring is so beautiful and unique!! Your TR is awesome. Congrats on being the grand marshall!! And I totally need to know where you got that shirt! Please...oh pretty please PM it to me?

And I totally know about the goofy big smile face. That's what I had when DF proposed, walking around NYC

Sorry about your knee and the brace. I'm pretty clutzy too...must be a Sam thing.

And sorry about the dress. It's hard buying something so far in advance. But the story is so beautiful. Part of the reason why I want to move the wedding up is so my Oma (grandma) will be there. She's turning 86 on Monday. I think you should definitely see about letting the dress out. Or adding part of it to your new dress. Or making the fabric into a runner for your table or a chuppah or something. I definitely wouldn't suggest forcing yourself into a size 2 dress. You are beautiful (and you got great legs!! :cool1:...must be the dancing!)

I know things will work out and I can't wait to read more!

Super cute engagement shoots btw. I love the one of you guys with the lake and the globe behind you, and the ones with the fence. How did you like the quality of the Disney photos?

Haha thanks Sam! I get kinda wordy lol! I totally hear you about the grandma thing... I think that is why I really want to keep the dress... and I think making myself a size 2 again is just never gonna happen lol!:lmao:

Oh Sam, im so sorry for you. I wish i could help you, like all the others have said; is there any way an extra panel on the back could be added? (im sure they could add panels and then do a corset back?-i dunno im just guessing..) Im sure that with todays talented seamstresses out there- im sure someone can do something because you need that dress hun, i didnt realise the story behind it- its so lovely. 3 or 4 sizes is not that small at all, if its any consolation, when i tried on a few dresses, they were a UK size 8- and im a 14- and they told me how they alter dresses and use material inside the gown and use a corset back if a bride wanted to buy a sample off the hanger if it wasnt her size - so its worth a try going around a few places to hear what different seamstresses can work their magic.

I am drinking wine as i type, and i will sure pour another glass and drink it for you! heh. :flower3::flower3::flower3:

Thanks Stacey, I will have to see about a corset back, I am usually so uncomfortable in a corset though, so that is my only concern. But I will see whatthe seamstress says. The thing with the dress is it has a mesh and bead overlay which looks like it cannot be added too without veryu obvious seams or $$ because of the time in the beading that would be involved... we'll see

SAM
DO NOT BE UPSET

Why dont you make your veil, pocketbook and garter out of it. Better yet sent it my way and I will work my seamstress magic and help you out?

<3

What do you not do well Jenny! You are wonder women! But a trip to the city would be fun no matter what:goodvibes

and ps- there is a way to alter the dress. If you make it a corset they can add two peices of fabric to the back and then use the huge ribbon as a closed corset which will cover the rest.

I will try to find pictures for u okay?

Oh thank you! I am just so nervous nd upset about the dress I think I am way too emotional... darn being a crier!

Oh no! I'm so sorry Sam! I'm sure it will work out, though, keep a positive spirit about it. Looks like all the ladies here have a lot of ideas for you- I would really see about that corset (and corset's are so cute too!!). It might end up making the dress even more beautiful!

Hang in there!! Hugs!! :grouphug:

Thanks, I am going to mention it to the tailor and see what she says:goodvibes

Sam.. i will pop to my neighbours house as she used to be a tailor and dress maker and i will show her the pic of the dress back and ask her if it can be altered.... i will be back on here soon to let you know!! (heh, first i need to get my butt up from watching SATC and drinking my wine!) ....

Hun, i wouldnt worry!! I will let you know what she says...:flower3:

Awww thanks Stacey, and I am watching SATC right now too! Gotta love Saturday TV:goodvibes

haha SATC - the BOX SET BABY! haha i can watch whatever episode i want, its sooo cool! Have you got a box set? you cant beat a good bottle of rose wine, well oops one and a half- and a good sit down to continuous SATC!! (i loooove SATC too much!)

Right... anyways, my neighbour Norma told me to say... that it is possible (after showing her the photo) she said, they can add a panel (possibly with any extra material that is under the dress, like sometimes you can make jeans longer with the extra material at the bottom-well a lot of dresses have extra material under neath them when we dont even realise it), and then add a corset type back with whatever ribbon width you want. They can also add detail to the ribbon and copy exactly what is on the dress (and apperantly this is good these days and they can copy almost anything unless its some really intricate difficult detail on the bodice) to make it like the bodice. She said the only problem or downside is that it will cost a lot more to get it made into a button back and it may not be possible to get a zip up unless there is that extra material underneath (which you cant notice and sometimes its actually sown and tucked in so you cant see it). She said over here, it could cost around £70-300 pounds to get a corset back with the added detail if you want, but if you have the button up back it will cost more (depending if they can do it), and a zip up back she wasnt sure how much it could cost....but she said to shop around and definately see what dress makers / seamstresses say first and get the prices before you do anything. Oh btw- she said its a lovely dress!!!!!

I hope this helps Sam...please dont be too upset! :flower3: i know you are not keen on a corset back.. but you should see how much it costs to get alternatives like a zip or button back first and if they can do it!! if there is no one that can do it then you could have a corset back as a last resort? :flower3:

see sam! Stacey did some Carmen Sandiego detective work for u! Good going gumshoe! (I hope someone knows what im saying lmao)

Thank you so much Stacey, I am so greatful you did that:hug:. I am going to take it to a seamstress this week with my mum, she just called and told me the name aof a women her frined who owns a boutique recommended so hopefully she will have something good to say:goodvibes. I will need to get it hemmed for sure since I am so short, so hopefully I will have some extra material. Thank you thank you thank you! You are am amazing friend Stacey!

see sam! Stacey did some Carmen Sandiego detective work for u! Good going gumshoe! (I hope someone knows what im saying lmao)

hahahaha You are the chief then!! I love that show, I use Rocapella music when I teach tap:woohoo:

Aww I am so sorry about the dress but I am sure there is something a seamstress can do about it! I feel so bad but that was souch a beautiful story. I am sure your grandmom would understand if there is nothing you can do about it. Another idea, if you can't do wear it at your own wedding maybe you can make a christining outfit or bassinet for your future baby!

I do love that idea, I think if it cannot be salvaged I will be doing that. I just want to keep the dress rather then sell it or something... I think whatever I do with it I will feel good as long as it stays with me ya know?
Thanks Toni:hug:

And thanks everyone for listening to me be mopey and sad... I honestly feel so much better after reading all your responses. The 1st thing my mom said after I tried on the dress last night was "Go and talk to your Disney Brides, they always help you out" And it's true you girls are the best! :hug:Thanks again!:flower3:

Oh and tomorrow my DM and I are going to look at dresses at Davids to see what is out there in case my dress isn't going to work. She said we should just start to look and see what the seamstress says next week so we have some options. So at least I should have some pics tomorrow of dress shopping if nothing else:confused3

That would be awesome if they can just add a corset. I really like the existing back though. However I never thought I wanted a corset back, and that is the part of my dress my mom likes most! She's still in awe of how great I looked after they worked the corset magic lol

Can't wait to find out what the seamstress says! But in the mean time I'm excited to see pics from your shopping experience :)

I am sorry to hear about your dress, there will be a way to work it out!

I am watching tv as I read your thread and a Disney Wedding show comes on. What style of wedding are you going with??

Awww... Bummer about the dress!

I could always lend you my rockin' red bra if you'd like :rotfl:

Hopefully the seamstress will be able to do something with the back. :goodvibes

Hope dress hunting went well today!

Hi Sam!

i just caught up on everything and I'm sending you a big hug  and lots and lots of pixie dust :wizard:. I'm sure everything will work out with your dress. The story really touched my heart and I completely understand the wine . I am pretty confident that they can let a dress out up to 4 sizes so i'm sure it will all end up perfect! No worries and remember we're all here for you!

Thanks Becky! I like how corsets LOOK, just not how the FIT... I think it is the years of being a ballerina and having to lace myself into itty bitty costumes:eek:. I was talking to my dad last night and explaining how I felt about being laced into a dress and I am not sure he "got it" lol! Finally I said I would make him wear a corset for 9 hours before we pay for any alterations and see what he thinks :lmao:!

Thanks Shelly! We are having a wishes wedding with about 160 guests . I like the wishes weddings because you can customize so many aspects of it:goodvibes Thanks for reading:goodvibes

Ya know I was actually going to ask you that lol! A red bra toally makes the bride complete! :rotfl2: Dress hunting went pretty well... I will post the pics and you can see some of the finds:goodvibes

Aww thanks Jenna, and the wine was very neccessary the other night lol! Although I ended up spilling a glass (of white thank goodness) on my rug and ended up in tears over it:lmao:. Dave thought I was nuts because I was esentially crying over a little wine on the rug (and I happen to loathe the rug it fell on anyways lol). Thanks for the support:hug:

Here goes... dress shopping Day 1...

My Mom and I headed out to David's Bridal yesterday and I had a list of 8 dresses that I like online in hand. I handed the list to our sales rep and she starting pulling dresses... now I will say if a Sales Rep ever brings you a dress to try on "just to see" DO IT!!! I tryed on 10 dresses in total and the 2 I liked the most were the ones i didn't pick lol! Now I am not saying the dresses I picked were ugly or bad, they just weren't "me" when i tried them on. So here goes! And BTW my mom is not the best photog. in the world (god love her though) and she did try but, some of the pics are very odd. Her timing is off, she says smile and then doesn't take a pic when I am smiling but rather when I am talking and making strange faces:lmao:

Oh and she took more pics of the dresses she liked, so if you see 3-4 pics of a dress it means she liked it lol! Gotta love her system!

Here goes...

Dress 1: This dress I was literally stuffed into! It was 2 sizes too small and we somnehow made it at least zip up lol! And the sleeves detach and were also way too big, so just use your imagination lol!

But it was a strapless (with sleeves too) dress with a chiffon overlay. Very comfy (despite the sizing lol) and breezy!

Close up!:

And me feeling "Bride-y with a veil"!

Dress 2: A more structed dress with tank sleeves and a "V" back, little bit of detailing.

The Front:

The Back:

Dress 3: Chosen by my sales rep (and my current #1 pick, I got a little teary when I saw it on) . Chiffon overlay strapless empire with pleating at the bust. Beading down the back. Loved it!

Lots of pics by mom too:thumbsup2

This was a new dress they had just got in and i guess I was the 1st person to try it on because all the sales girls came over and were looking at it on too. I think I started to like it even more after all the girls starting saying how it had to be "the one" for me, although I was also very torn with my sentimental dress too...

anwyays...

Dress 4: Trumpet/A line, All lace overlay, halter with a belt sash. Pretty, but not me...

IMG_1985.jpg

IMG_1984.jpg

Next post... ran out of pics lol!

Dress 5: Lace again, mom didn't like it only 2 pics! It was too big on top so I think that was part of it, but i don't think she really likes lace all that much lol!

IMG_1988.jpg

IMG_1987.jpg

Dress 6: Kinda like the dress I loved, but not the same somehow...

IMG_1989.jpg

IMG_1990.jpg

Dress 7: Cute, but I decided against going short:confused3

IMG_1991.jpg

IMG_1992.jpg

Dress 8: The #2 pick! I actually loved the back alot more once I saw the pics at home so who knows... Very structed, but light weight brocade dress. Ivory and fits very nicely, comfy dress!

So that was my afternoon with Mom. We did find some options and I will be calling the seamstress tomorrow to see what she has to say and then we can go from there I guess. What do you all think? The last 2 are clearly my moms fave too judging by the # of pics, but I welcome all opinions:goodvibes

oooh i like all of them, but i do agree, dress 3 is amazing- the shape of the top really looks good on you! Dress 8 is really nice too and the back is really different and thats what makes it so nice.

I like them all a lot you chose some really good dresses!

Loveee your faces in the photos!! bless ya mum! ;)

3 is gorgeous!!! And you can really see how much you love wearing it! :)

I LOVE number 2!! It's so elegant and really suits you!

(Do you know who makes it? ;))

yeah the trail on dress 2 is really nice

i forgot to say dress 4 really suits you too - even though you said its not really you, the halter neck on it looks really good on you and while im not keen on the bow, i really like the lace, it looks elegant!

but 3 is still the best i think! (well, apart from your grandmas dress, which is stunnningggg)

I hope it works out okay with your other dress. xxx

It's a good thing she is good at so many other things lol! Her timing just never works lol! My dad takes all our family pics because of that:lmao:!

#3 is my fave right now, but #8 is creeping up there, it's hard to see the back of a dress when you are wearing it... Thanks Stacey!

I LOVE number 2!! It's so elegant and really suits you!

(Do you know who makes it? ;))

Aww thanks Torse! It's from david's bridal. Dress 2 was really pretty but it had a ton of tulle underneath it and was really heavy (even though it doesn't look it). But it was a fave as well!

yeah the trail on dress 2 is really nice

I liked 4 too, It was an amazing dress but I didn't feel "bridey" enough in it... does that make sense? I loved the design though:goodvibes

Ok, I loved your favorites (3 and 8), but I gotta say girl, I thought you looked gorgeous in 8!! It was super flattering on you- so that was my favorite!! I'd try that one on again!!

Glad you got to have a fun dress trying on day!! :goodvibes
