Hi Everyone, we are going for a 1 week stay at AKL Club level and my husband is a photographer and will be taking an expensive camera. We don't want to take it everyday to the parks with us, are there safes in the room and are they large enough for a standard size camera?

Thanks for your help!

:wave2: Hello everyone. We are enjoying AKL Jambo House.

The dying question about the TVs and Xbox:lmao: Yes you can plug your xbox right in the front. :thumbsup2

Hey, Thanks for checking in - glad you are having fun!!!! (I won't let DS know about the xbox........ LOL)

Found this thread today! We just booked AKL Jambo for March 17-24, 2012 and are so excited. We went to WDW around 2 yrs ago and stayed at POP, so AKL will be a big change for us.
If anyone has any links to any AKL info (on this board or elsewhere) that you think would be beneficial to me in planning, please let me know!
Thank you!:goodvibes

Good Morning Jamborinis and Kidanites! :goodvibes

Hope everyone has a great day!

Morning!!! :flower3:

Good morning! We're back... :sad1: We are definitely now believers and loved every minute of our AKL stay! It was awesome! We loved the lounge and especially the view from the room. About 30 minutes after we were checked in, someone knocked on the door. They were delivering four chocolate "suckers" and a birthday present for DGS2. He loved it there so much! He also loved the non-stop apple juice.

Thanks to you all for all the great advice!

Glad you had a good trip!!! Now, where's that TR???? ;)

We are so excited our 1st AKL trip is in a few weeks! We plan to spend ALOT of time at the resort. We are APs and have done the parks many times-we are very interested in down time and resort relaxing.
What time at night is the firepit stories? Do all rooms come with night vision goggles or just CL? Does the resort have movies poolside at night? is it really a long wait for buses like I've read?
Thanks!

In the lobby there is an activities board, it list everything going on and the times, they also give you a times guide when you check in. Typically though, the stories at the firepit are at dusk. None of the rooms have night vision goggles, you'll need to go to the viewing area, the CM's will have them for guest. Yes, they do have the pool movies in the summer. The bus "wait" times are really hard to say, it is dependant on so many factors, also, remember the bus will stop at Kidani first. We've NEVER had any "long" waits for the busses in all of our trips. Good Luck, hope you enjoy your stay!!

Good morning everyone :wave2:

Morning Brandi!!!! :flower3:

Good morning, Jamborinis & Kidanites! :sunny:

Morning Sunshine - how's Bob doing today???

Thanks, Laura! I can't wait!

Congratulations on staying at AKL CL, yes there are safes in the room and yes an average DSLR without a 200mm lens attached will fit in the safe.

First, Welcome!!! My DH also brings his camera - it's VERY expensive as well, so I understand your concern. We do not bring it to the parks with us every day either, it's too heavy to lug around!!! LOL

It is too big to fit in the safe, I think most camera's would be. We have a locking suitcase that he keeps it in, in the room. You can also always drop it at concierge for them to hold while you are out. If you are concerned about mousekeeping though, I wouldn't worry - we've never had anything go missing.

Hey - LOL

I just told her NO, the safes weren't big enough!!! ;) We've never been able to fit ours in the safe. DH has a Canon 40D with a 17-40L lens - and it doesn't fit. (this was at Jambo and Kidani)

LOL....
I have only stayed DVC so don't know if they are different, I have a NIKON D80 and the body will fit in there but my 200MM lens and my macro will not fit in there.

That being said, I have left it in the room MANY, MANY times and never had a problem with. I have NEVER had a problem with mousekeeping .

I'm pretty sure the safes are the same, we've stayed both, (DVC only now) but, he said he's never been able to get the body to fit - but, he has been able to get the lenses to fit. We've never been able to fit our laptop either............. oh well, I guess the OP will just need to try it!!! ;)

Again, though, NEVER had a problem with mousekeeping!!!

AND Brandi...... whoop whoop, we are 68 days!!! YAY :cheer2:

I assume the safes at the resort are the same size, but we are staying in a DVC room. I'll foward your responses to DH and he can see that he doesn't need to worry. We are hoping to take the Wanyama Sunset Safari and we want to be sure and get pictures of the animals.

Morning Sunshine - how's Bob doing today???

Today is a pretty good day! He sat at his computer for a while and listened to his music and also did his PT and OT exercises without being yelled at... I mean, reminded. ;) He is in a good mood so that is also very nice! Thanks for asking, Miss Wendy!

We are home from the World.:) TR. soon..

DH and I are going to order the free DVC DVD. Going to see if it'd be worth it, since we only go once a year...

We love :lovestruc being DVC. I know it is not perfect for everyone but it "works" for us.

I read somewhere the rooms aren't as 'plush' as the normal AKL ones? How do you like them?

Glad to hear he's doing so well!!! I'm so excited to meet everyone too!!!

And I am at 67! :yay: Which means that in a little over 2 months we all get to meet!! :goodvibes

I just looked on member services and noticed, I'm NOT at 68 days, I'm at 67 too - YAY -- lol

:woohoo: :yay: :dance3:  :rotfl: :worship: :cool1: :thumbsup2

I am really excited about this trip and meeting everyone!

I think the rooms are much nicer in the villa's. ESP. Kidani - I    :cloud9: Kidani - DVC is the BEST thing we've ever done, we took 3 trips last year, our next trip is in Oct. and I'm booked for May already. :rolleyes1 LOL

Ha. Ok. I think ill have to check out the DVC forums !! I'm curious how much money we would save... Not having kids. gotta for sure look into it!!

:lmao: I'm sorry, but that's probably the one of the biggest misconceptions I've read yet on DVC.

Of course it isn't as plush as a normal room... I mean, how soft and fluffy do you like your kitchen(ette), table and chairs?:rotfl:

The studios have one queen bed and a pull out couch. If it's just two people, this gives you a lot more functional room than a normal room. If it's a family you can upgrade to the 1br units with a full kitchen, king bed, jacuzzi, walk in shower, pull out couch and sleeper chair in the LR.... oh, and don't forget the second bathroom Kidani offers.... you get the pic. Yeah, I can see how DVC is roughing it.. hehe
