Oh wow cool, you got over there at night. I might try to do that on Sat night. I went by yesterday around the World Trade Center area and got a few quick shots. I'm pretty sure I'm going in with oldest DS on Sunday morning to take one of the harbor cruises. I was hoping the ferry boat out of Quincy was running early, but they dont' start till 8am on the weekends.

Here are a few more to add to the thread....

Oh,,, I drove around by the Charlestown Navy Yard, but was real tight on time and couldn't find a place to park quick. I'll try to head over there again tomorrow and/or Sunday morning. The USS Constitution is berthed there and the Coast Guard training ship Eagle is there with it. There are also a quite a few more smaller ships.

Wonderful pictures!! My husband and I just got home from being there all afternoon and early evening. I will post some of my pictures tomorrow. I only took about 180 of them!!!:scared1:

Great pics! I'm a tall ship addict so it's nice to look at these. :goodvibes

Nice shots, Kyle. Love this. I would have liked to see them in the daytime from a photography aspect. But the party atmosphere was fun at night, too. There were all kinds of sailors and officers walking around, shopping, having fun - my kids enjoyed listening to their different languages. Music was playing and people were onboard the ships, etc. And of course that lovely seaport "ocean" aroma mixed with the ship rope grease smell (or whatever it was), LOL.

Ok...I have downloaded my pictures from Sail Boston and wanted to share some.

Does anyone know when these ships leave specifically? I'd like to get some shots of the ships with their sails out.

Some are leaving late on Sunday and more are leaving sometime on Monday. There has been no "Official" announcement.

There is a strong rumor that there will be an unofficial "Parade of Sail" on Monday while the remaining Tall Ships leave Boston Harbor, 8:00 AM to 12:00pm. Get to Castle Island EARLY, or even better, get out on a boat way out in the channel towards Boston Light. Great view of the ships coming out of the harbor with the light behind you.

Here are a few more....

These I took yesterday in the Charlestown Navy Yard area:

USCGC Eagle, 295' training vessel based in New London, CT:

USS Cassin Young: commissioned on December 31, 1943. Assigned to the Central Pacific, Cassin Young first experienced combat in April 1944. USS Cassin Young now has a new mission. Maintained and staffed by National Park Service staff and volunteers, Cassin Young is an example of the type of ship built, repaired, and modernized in the Charlestown Navy Yard. Although built in California, fourteen Fletcher-Class destroyers just like her were produced at this yard.

Picton Castle, 179' from Lunenburg, Nova Scotia; Bluenose II, 161' from Lunenburg, Nova Scotia and the Irish Navy ship LÉ Eithne, 265' Helicopter Patrol Vessel:

Kyle...do you know where they are going from here? Any chance they would be going through the cape cod canal??

Just answered my own question....I was looking on the Sail Boston site and found this...they are heading NORTH.

"Sail Boston is an official Port of the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge 2009 (TSAC). The trans-Atlantic regatta will start in Vigo, Spain. From there the fleet will race to Tenerife in the Canary Islands, en route to Bermuda. The fleet will then race to Charleston, South Carolina before racing to Boston, for Sail Boston 2009. From Boston the fleet will cruise in company north to Halifax, Canada. From there the fleet will race back across the North Atlantic to Belfast, Northern Ireland."

Took a harbor cruise with oldest DS this morning. Here are some pics from that...

Yep, north to Canada from here.

As for the canal, there is only a 135' mean high tide clearance under the bridges. Only the smaller tall ships would be able to transit the canal. All the big ones have to go around the Cape.

The "race" isn't an official race. Its more of a playfull good natured race. No prizes or anything like that.

Very cool Kyle...I like your pictures from this morning? Are you going to Castle Island tomorrow? I am thinking about it...need to call my folks and see if they would want to go.

Thanks... I have more that are uploading now.

I would absolutely LOVE to go to Castle Island tomorrow, but I have to work.

I can't wait to see more....that's too bad about tomorrow!
I work in the school district as a Para so I have the summer off...otherwise I would NOT be going either.

I will post pics if I do go.
