So we are Disney Visa cardholders and got a promo in the mail to do a DVC phone tour for a $40 Disney Gift Card. So I just got off the phone with the DVC guy, and I think maybe I got myself in trouble. He was really nice and we were talking and I mentioned that we were renting DVC points and staying at AKL in December (I talk too much when I am nervous) and told him the dates, how much we paid per point, and yada yada. Then a question was asked and I pointed out that we were actually renting the points though a service that uses a middle man so we are not dealing directly with the member. (did not mention the name of the service thankfully) He told me that was illegal and the phone tour ended shortly after.

First of all I would never to anything knowingly illegal so let's just put that out there. Is this guy going to look into my reservation now and get the members involved (who I have no idea their identity) in trouble? I went through David's and I find it hard to believe that his business is an illegally run business but is there anything behind what this guy is saying?

Renting is not illegal - in fact the POS expressly allows it. You will not get anyone into trouble.

I can understand why you are rattled but don't think for a minute that David's Service is illegal. These DVC "guides" can say what ever pops into their heads it seems. It's certainly not illegal to rent your points.

If this guy was any kind of a salesman he would have tried to sell you on the advantages of owning your own membership, not trying to intimidate you.
It's none of his business anyway.

Try to relax and hope you get your $40 gift card.

Thank you for reassuring me :goodvibes
The biggest thing I was worried about was that I might have gotten someone else in trouble :confused3

Illegal was the wrong word and the guide was wrong. For all if Disney's power they are not a 'law enforcement agency'

IMHO the broker does cross the line into commercial renting, but Disney knows about it and had chosen not to enforce their own terms and conditions. Their decision to ignore probably means they are now stuck with these services

Well, we rented, then realized we should buy. Sometimes it works out in DVD's favor.

First of all, Disney reads this board so if they didn't know before they do now.

Renting is not against the rules, commercial renting is. Technically the rental brokers are not renting, they are brokering.

Guides make their money by selling direct, something during your call made him feel that you were not a good prospect and he went to the next call.
