Safety rails for bed, crib questions

We will be bringing our almost 2 year old on the Magic. She sleeps in a crib now, but if possible I would like to avoid having a pack and play set up (it takes a bunch of room). I thought I would try her in the bottom bunk, but can they install bed rails on that? Also, with the pack and play set up, can you even walk through the room to get to the verandah? Finally, has anyone tried putting a "crib child" in the lower bunk and with what results?

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated!

Thanks

Hi Josh's Mom! You can definitely request bed rails and your cabin attendant will bring them for you. I would go ahead and have your request noted on your reservation with DCL as well. :)

On our last cruise we had a 15 mo old. Our room steward set up the crib every night and we had plently of room. We had a category 10 cabin so it wasn't one of the larger cabins but it wasn't a problem.

We had requested a crib for our 2 year old....he'd never slept in a bed, and moves around a lot in his crib. The crib was not there when we got to the room, and I was going to ask for it, but dh said to let him try the couch(made into a bed at night) and see how he did. We tucked him in tightly each night (w/o bedrails even!) He did fall out one night.....the couch is not high....and didn't wake up. I just put him back in and tucked again! Do what feels right. I think your stateroom host will do whatever you request.

Thanks for all your input. Pal2Pluto, I didn't even think of tucking her in since she has two special "blankies" we travel with everywhere, but that is a great idea. Also good to hear that the couch is not too high up. Maybe we can put her in the bed and put some pillows on the floor next to the bed just in case.

By the way, did you put your son in Flounders Reef at all? If so, did you have a good experience with that?

Thanks again.

Levi has 2 blankies and a teddy bear!

We made ressies for Flounders almost every night. I blocked out 7:30pm-10pm there and got approved each night. They will call you each evening before to let you know if your time is approved. That had either dh or me taking him there right before dessert. I did know that I wanted him to see Disney Dreams on Th night, so I didn't make ressies for him then....and he loved it....sit close to the front if at all possible....ds loved the bubbles that came down on us!

He looked forward to going to "play with the kids" the first 2 or 3 evenings, and then really didn't want to go. I don't know why....his favorite movie was on when I would stop by, and he usually was sitting in a cm's lap reading books when I picked him up. We did cancel a couple times because he wanted to not "go play". I'm glad we did Palo's on Sunday, so I wouldn't feel like I made him go in when we went out.....he still enjoyed it that day. I think they do a good job, he may have just not wanted to be apart in such unusual situation....new bed, new room, new surroundings, lots of people....gotta be confusing to a little one~
