We are in upstate ny. And yes my husband is a state trooper. I am worried going through these cities and having these groups shut down a highway we are on.

That would be the least of my concern.

OP, I would think your husband who is a black cop should be able to assuage your fears. My in laws who are a mixed race couple travel everywhere together. It's no longer 1965. (Which is when they got married btw.)

Now as to your question, I understand nerves. I do. But a random city. A ride on interstates. With your husband who us a state trooper. I don't get it. My niece is a trooper and u would travel anywhere with her and trust she was capable enough to assess our situation and make sure we are safe. I trust my DH, who us but a trooper to recognize if there is a threat. But you don't trust your husband to keep his family safe????

You have to watch what is going on around you nyc is a target for something to happen

You realize you don't actually go thru major cities when you're on 95, right? You're going around them. Heck, you could avoid a lot of 95 and go down the Delaware coast into MD and then VA.

furthermore, bad things can happen anywhere. I bet the people in the CO suburban movie theater never thought they were at risk. I bet the students and teachers in suburban CT or Amish country never thought they were at risk.

We are supposed to go to Virginia beach in a few weeks for a softball tournament. Do you think we should be worried driving down that way with all the stuff going on with the black lives matter events going on.

Are you serious? Things happen anywhere/everywhere randomly all the time. Are we supposed to stop living?
Going places? Enjoying life? Hiding in a closet? (actually not safe there either - plane landed on a home near where we used to live - mom, two children died) Just live normally, and be aware, not constantly scared of your shadow.

But you have a beach house in Myrtle beach that you say you visit often. So, you must have passed through Virginia beach hundreds of times. Why is it different now?

That is what we are talking about doing. There are two ways to go and I think if we can avoid dc and Baltimore we will be ok. I saw that they did a n event in Virginia beach in the spring that is what made me ask this question.

why did you cancel your trip

A few reasons - our regular dog watcher fell through and my wife want to travel to FL and GA to spend some time with family there. She'll be in the Orlando area (staying at DVC), Naples, and South GA and honestly, I haven't thought twice about her safety (outside of normal) or thought she should cancel.
