Safety question ?

Then I am not understanding. How do the other little girls, who will be with their own families and you are not responsible for them, make you question this trip?

They are not but we are traveling as a group and I want to make sure we are all safe getting there and back

Good gravy people.

She's traveling and these are indeed restless times. A little forethought is nothing to be getting so snippy about! She's not saying anything that could be at ALL construed as racist, yet all the bashing/make big fun of her question is, well, a little over the top, isn't it?

When my son got married last year we made sure he had contact info for my friend who lives semi-close to where his honeymoon was in the event of any events. We even, gasp, spoke to the friends and had a contingency plan in case anything happened.

Once all bases were covered, everyone could relax and all had a good time. Maybe because I'm from NE, but we always like to have a plan, cause ya never know.

Ketchup chips

I'm not sure if I could bring myself to eat those. My son bought some of the Lays biscuits and gravy chips and I just couldn't wrap my head around the whole concept. I think ketchup chips might do the same thing to me.

After 911 we contemplated still doing our trip to WDW a few months later. We did go and had a nice time btw. Unfortunately a lot of terrible things have happened even since that horrendous attack. BSLady, if you are asking, maybe you shouldn't bother even going on this trip......or any. Sorry for your fear.

I remember growing up my dad used to eat Utz potato chips plain dipped in ketchup. It was a household regular.
Admittedly I have no idea what Canadian ketchup chips are and have no clue if that is in the same vain but it just brought back that memory.

I probably have no room to talk, because my kids always looked at me strange when I ate potato chips dipped in peanut butter. I don't even know why or where it all started but I enjoy them that way a great deal.

Adding all of that info up you really can't see how some of us think it is slightly silly to ask on the disboards if it's safe and ok to go to VA Beach?

You have a right to think it's silly, but I don't think that anyone has the right to mock her or be nasty. If you think it's 100% safe, then reassure, whatever. But what does mocking accomplish?

The Dis is full of people from all over. I've asked questions here about traveling to other places, so have others. I really don't see the difference. She's traveling in a group, with kids and I see zero reason to mock her when she's just looking for a "safe" route and whether people think her destination could be a hot spot. Ask and answer. Or don't. I just don't see the need for this bashing/mocking. Haven't certain people on this thread been jumping on others on other threads about treating people decently? What happened to that?

I work in Downtown Pittsburgh and watched a news helicopter hovering yesterday afternoon covering a protest march. It was over before I left at 5:30 and I wasn't concerned. Obviously, if something is planned, stay away from it.

No, you should not be worried because of all the BLM stuff going on.

Fair enough I suppose. I have a lot more I typed out and wanted to respond which I believe is very reasonable but I'm just going to leave it in my head and everyone else's imagination so instead I just hit backspace....ALOT.
