Safety of Item in my Stroller

I have been to Disney a bunch of times but this is my first trip with my DD she will be 10 months. I know when you go on rides, or to eat you need to leave the stroller behind. I don't plan on leaving money or anything to valuable in the stroller but what about my Ergo, or some baby items? I plan on bringing the Ergo for rides and lines, but wont need it to eat, is it not safe to leave it in the stroller?

I am sure this has been discussed but I couldn't find a good recent post, so my apologies.

The general rule of thumb (both for me personally and on the boards) seems to be don't leave anything in the stroller that you wouldn't want to lose or have to replace.

I would generally leave a bag of extra clothes, diapers and wipes in the stroller, Snacks and drinks may stay behind, too (but only if well packaged up, I've seen lots of thieving squirrels around WDW).

Everything else would come with me.

If you would be upset to go back to your stroller and find an item missing, don't leave it behind. It is sad, but there are thieves at WDW. Some people even go as far as to lock the back wheels of their stroller together, so that doesn't come up missing.

Don't leave an Ergo. It's expensive, and you wouldn't be able to replace it easily right away. Diapers and wipes you will have more of in your room, and you can buy more in the park. Most of us buy our Ergos online, and you'd miss it for the rest of your trip.

I would imagine that most people stealing stuff don't carefully inspect it first. They grab it and look later. I leave changing supplies and a onesie in a big clear ziplock bag in the bottom of my stroller so that everyone can see it's boring. I don't even use a bag because I want them to see that it's nothing special.

Yes, I totally agree. Just because it's pixiedust: world to most of us doesn't mean thievery is not alive and well.

I forgot to mention in my first post that to carry my Ergo into restaurants, my bag that I take to WDW is a large shoulder/tote bag. I don't put much into it, so it has lots of extra room for my Ergo when I need to carry it. I put a hook on the back of my stroller so that I don't have to carry it when walking around. When we park the stroller to go into a restaurant or ride, I put it on my shoulder and go.

Looks like i will be taking the Ergo with me when we leave the stroller, and only will be leaving behind some baby care items. The question now is what is a good bag for me to take to the park that is easy to carry around. I usually go with a messenger bag, but would need a bigger one I should start researching.

Thank you everyone! Any other tips for first time moms going to WDW are welcome :) i will be renting a stroller i do know that already.

Maybe we are trusting souls :)

I have been to Disneyworld 3 times, and Disneyland 1 time. Every time brought a double stroller with a bag packed with lots of stuff. I've never had any issues.

I leave our softsided cooler in the bottom of the stroller and I throw my diaper bag into the seat before we park it. I have never had an item stolen from my stroller. We have been travelling with strollers for approx 20+ trips now with no issues.

Nothing I leave is of much value so if something did go missing we could make do....but nothing has ever been taken from us.

Which is great but lots of people have had items go missing. It's better not to create the opportunity to be the person that does have a problem.

We once left a very expensive, nearly brand new camcorder in the stroller. And it was sitting right on top in plain view! We were actually shocked when we came back from a ride and it was still there. Made me feel all warm and fuzzy about the human race. :cool1: But that said...I would NEVER want to attempt a repeat of that miracle lol.

We've always left our diaper bag without a problem, but it wasn't a special diaper bag or anything. This time we'll leave the nice diaper bag at the hotel and bring a backpack which we'll leave with the stroller. Maybe I'm too trusting but I've never had an issue.

We never had any issue when we were in the stroller stage but then we never left anything in there that I couldn't replace easy enough. We would leave backpack/diaper bag and even what souvies we had bought in the basket underneath and were always fortunate enough to not have issues.

You may also be able to bring your stroller in to restaurants. We were allowed to bring our double in most places because we had a baby (4 months). CMs were especially accommodating when she was asleep. It's at their discretion and I imagine it's harder at high crowd times, but we got lucky a lot!

We also left sweatshirts, baby blanket, and changing supplies in the stroller basket - never had an issue.

My sister left her bright red wallet dangling from the stroller in the stroller parking area at the safari. It was still there when we got back.

The only thing I have ever left was bottles of water, and this past July, someone took those while we were on spaceship earth:(

I leave food and any random little stuff, but I keep supplies and everything in a bag and just take that in. I've left a Belle dress stuffed in the bottom. But again, nothing that I would be devastated about losing.

I would most definitely get a backpack for comfort and ease. Take your stroller with you and see which backpacks fit in the basket at the bottom. (I got a lot of stares having the empty stroller in the store, lol, but it was worth it).

we didn't have anything go missing last time we went..we rented a stroller and I did purchase the insurance for it in case it went missing. I would advise getting a bright scarf or something to mark your stroller, the cast members can/do move strollers around a lot, so it may not be where you put it when you come back out. Also as everyone else has said, I wouldn't leave anything of value, we leave snacks/water/extra change of clothes in the stroller, everything else comes with us. and we saw quite a few squirrels making away with food from other strollers!

I wouldn't leave an Ergo, too pricey to lose. We've left various things such as stroller fans, snacks, sunscreen, etc in the stroller and never had a problem. But I do go by the rule "don't leave anything you really don't want to be stolen". I really didn't want those stroller fans snatched (esp in the sept heat!) but I was willing to risk it (I had 3 ;) ). My Beco, diaper bag, camera came with us when we left the stroller.
