We Are landing at LAX on Friday, April 15 late at night. We would like to see the Walk of Fame area Saturday morning. Where would you recommend staying that's safe but won't break the bank?

Exactly what do you mean by "won't break the bank?" Under $100? Under $300? Are you driving or taking a shuttle to your hotel? Is there anything else you want to see? The Walk of Fame takes a half an hour to see, literally.

Around/under $200 would be great. We are planning on seeing the Walk of Fame, Chinese theater, Hollywood and Highland for the Hollywood sign and then probably Santa Monica pier area. We will be staying somewhere closer to San Diego that next night so it will be just for one night.

Everything you want to see in Hollywood can be seen in a few hours or less at Hollywood and Highland (Walk of Fame out front, Hollywood sign viewing point on an upper level, Chinese Theater next door, Dolby Theatre -- home of the Academy Awards ceremony, etc.). That would allow you to drive to Santa Monica and stay there for one night. That would be a much nicer area than the heart of Hollywood. Try using Priceline or Expedia or other online sites to see what kind of prices you can find.

I already answered in your other post. If you will be staying at LAX the night you arrive, I would keep that hotel room for one more night. You will only need a few hours or less to see everything you listed in Hollywood. Then you could drive to see the SM pier, enjoy time there, then return to LAX for your last night before heading to San Diego. It is much easier to find a good rate at hotels by LAX than it is to find low rates at nice hotels in Hollywood or SM.

If you're arriving late at night and it's you're only night in LA, just stay near LAX. Why add renting a car a driving to a hotel to a late night arrival? And what if the flight is delayed? You could even wait until the next morning to rent the car. Many LAX area hotels have free shuttles and are walking distance to car rental locations.

I agree with the others. No need to stay in Hollywood, but beware that Santa Monica is even more expensive. Just stay near the airport and head out early the morning.

I suggest "The Hotel Hollywood" around $100. Older but clean and very close to
everything you want. Not to be confused with "Hollywood Hotel" on Vermont. Also
older but even nicer about $160 - just farther away from H&H. There is a Best
Western on Franklin with a great diner inside for excellent breakfast. That would
be my recommendation. Around $175.

So you have several choices.

Thanks for all the suggestions, and sorry for the double post. I did it from my phone and didn't even realize. We are arriving around 11PM. The car is already reserved. I guess I was thinking we'd rather start fresh in the morning rather than have to go get the car, and drive wherever. I realize the things we picked are relatively quick, which is why we will be driving closer to San Diego that night, in order to start fresh there on Sunday. This is our first trip and all you hear about is the traffic. I thought we should get away from the airport at night to potentially avoid traffic. If I'm wrong, please let me know.

Thanks!

There's little traffic early on Saturday morning. On the other hand traffic can be surprisingly heavy on Friday nights in Hollywood. The best plan is to pick up the car when you arrive and stay at one of the many hotels near the airport so you can get a head start early on Saturday.

When we visit Hollywood/West LA we usually get an AirBnB room in Santa Monica or Venice. If you're willing to do things like pick up a key from a lockbox rather than a check-in counter or forgo room service, it is a great option. Check out this place, for example.
