Safe Beaches in Cabo

We are going on the MR cruise next week and were planning a beach day for our family. Last week at divorce beach in Cabo a Canadian couple died after a wave washed them away.

We are obviously hesitant now about our beach plans.

Are there beaches that are safe to swim? How do we know where it is ok to go and where it would be safe to swim. My kids love the water/beach and will want to go in the water if we are at the beach

They were definitely in the water where they were not supposed to be!
There are signs everywhere telling people NOT to get in the water, or near it even, on that side of the island.

They were on the opposite side of Lover's Beach, which is often nice enough to play at....but I don't even recommend Lover's Beach. It's a really small spread of beach near the famous Arch.

The SAFE place to go....and really the ONLY place to go, is Medano Beach.
You can get there by regular taxi, or by water taxi. It will be the long expanse of beach to the right-hand side of the bay, as you are tendering in. There are restaurants, bars and hotels along there.

O.K thank you that is where we were going to go from what i had read here.
I had no idea there were such variations in the water areas !

Would you recommend the regular taxi or water taxi? Is it easy to identify who is best to go with or are most of the taxis near port reputable?

We will do an excursion day before our beach day so we will be able to "scope out" the area before we have to navigate on our own

Lover's Beach is in the bay...so it is more protected...by like I said, I have gotten pretty tossed around there, and I'm a strong, experienced, open-ocean snorkler....I will NEVER go in the water there again. And on the opposite side (you can walk from Lover's Beach to Divorce Beach) where Divorce Beach is, that is on the Pacific and the waves crash there like crazy. I can't even imagine being over there with children.


We've used the regular taxi's many times, and have had no trouble. It should cost you only $3 per person to ride to Medano Beach. Settle on this price before getting in the taxi. And when you are done at the beach, you can easily get a waiting taxi back into town, or close to the tender pier....it's about a 3-4 minute walk from the taxi waiting area to the tenders.

The water taxi's are easy to get into at the tender pier, but they are very hard to get back into from the beach. Again, no problem in getting one for your return back, they're all over the place.
But because it's hard to climb into one from the shallow water at the beach, I always prefer a regular taxi.
