On another note -- Does anyone know how the ToT girl is doing?

She flew back to Great Britain on a Medical Flight August 6th. She was still in critical condition and according to the Orlando Sentinel, it was agreed between the doctors and the family that there was nothing more that could be done by her staying here that couldn't be done in the UK. Unfortunately, I believe they have a VERY long road ahead of them. There was a student once at the school where I taught, who was 13 and had an aneurysm. She lived another 5 years on a ventilator on a vent dependent unit at the local childrens hospital. Once she was too old to be at the children's hospital, she was moved to a vent dependent unit at a long term care facility. She finally succombed to pneumonia. It was VERY sad... she was never aware of anything, and her mother kept waiting for a miracle. My brother had a friend who had an aneurysm and died in junior high school. She was the pitcher for the softball team. She went to practice, and when she came home, complained of a headache and feeling sick to here stomach. Her parents, thinking she had a bug, sent her to bed. When they went in to check on her a little while later, she was dead. Came on that suddenly!

As for the little girl at TL.... my educated guess is that she had suffered heat stroke. The heat index was between 110 and 115 that day and EXTREMELY humid. Or, they will find that she had some underlying condition that contributed to her death. I just hope that whatever they find in the postmortum studies, it will answer questions for the family. There is nothing worse than not knowing.

As for the lifeguards who worked on her.... this will be with them for the rest of their lives. The training those guards go through is amazing. Many call it lifeguard bootcamp and they are trained for anything that may happen. Kudos to them for the fantastic job they do keeping everyone safe!
