Sad News

I know.. thanks for the warning.. seems many here feel that it is ok to do what ever they want, where ever they want.. :confused3 Jobs has nothing to do what so ever with this board.. no matter how much they try to sell their thoughts.. Oh, here's one.. maybe we can use the I-pad to tell us what the wait time is for Space Mt? :rolleyes1 Yes, may he rest in peace, but this thread doesn't belong on the Theme Parks Attractions and Strategies board

So you just had to save us all by clicking on the thread to tell us how wrong we are for posting here? :confused3 I don't seem to see "MODERATOR" under your name, nor would I see any reason for this thread to be moved. No one once has anyone asked for people to weigh in on where this thread should be.

If you don't like it then stop clicking on it, reading and posting.

Anyone (except a mod) who spends any time worrying about whether a thread is "off topic" needs to seriously re-evaluate their priorities, in my opinion. Those who post multiple complaints in a thread about someone dying of cancer....I can't even imagine how you get to be that person.

:thumbsup2

A statement from Pixar,

"Steve Jobs was an extraordinary visionary, our very dear friend and the guiding light of the Pixar family. He saw the potential of what Pixar could be before the rest of us, and beyond what anyone ever imagined. Steve took a chance on us and believed in our crazy dream of making computer animated films; the one thing he always said was to simply 'make it great.' He is why Pixar turned out the way we did and his strength, integrity and love of life has made us all better people. He will forever be a part of Pixar’s DNA. Our hearts go out to his wife Laurene and their children during this incredibly difficult time."

- John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer & Ed Catmull, President, Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios

I really don't understand all of the flaming and negative comments.

I follow a few imagineers on my twitter feed and it has been constant tweets tonight about how Steve Jobs effected Disney and Pixar. Here is just one:

"Something fun will be coming to Magic Kingdom & we stole a move from Steve's playbook to make it happen...Thank you Steve"

What is the big deal if people want to reflect on a man who changed the world and spent the last 8 years of his life battling cancer.

I don't see how this isn't as important as if POTC prisoners have their heads turned the wrong way or how much a cab costs from one point to the next.

If you don't like what is being said, you don't have to read the thread. Move on please.

RIP Steve Jobs. I didn't agree with your management style or Apple's approach to computing, but you did change the world for sure.

That said, theme parks attractions & strategies isn't the place for this as this presently and future(ly?) doesn't affect either. Community would probably be more appropriate.

This is one of those times when the only important thing is to remember the man, Steve Jobs. He was one of those truly innovative people who changed the world and that brings a particular sense of sadness and loss. The world lost this innovator much too soon and at such a young age.

It is a time when an event makes things such as posting rules seem so very trivial and irrelevant. I prefer to focus on the loss if Mr. Jobs and think of his family and the trying time it must be for them. Condolences to them.

RIP Mr. Jobs.

To keep things "relevant" I used my iMac to play my Disney trip. When I got to disney I also used my iPhone to keep track of reservations..... I think everyone should use there apple items to plan there trips! Its VERY helpful!
----

OK now we are on topic again!

People do not understand just how big an effect Steve had on SO many peoples lifes. He never settled for second best. He turned Apple in to the most profitable company in the world. But sadly no amount of money in the world (yet) was able to cure cancer.

I'm wondering if all these Pollyanna's were also posting about this being the wrong board during the 9/11 anniversary threads......

No, but these Mickey Mouse's when speaking about 9/11 in regards to the parks, the parks closed that day so it did effect them..:thumbsup2 and it did pertain to them :flower3: and as I have said in my previous posts, may Jobs RIP, but his passing does not have anything to do with this particular board... Disney yes, but not this board....:upsidedow

People on both sides need to stop and look at what they are doing. Guys, you are all fighting in a thread talking about the passing of someone.

If you wan't to debate DIS moderation policy or personal views on situations then take it somewhere else, it doesn't belong in a RIP thread.

I thought long and hard about posting my above comments but feel it needed to be said.

Oglet, you said it way better than I could have. Thank you.

Steve Jobs made it possible for us to get on our personal computers so that we can get on the disboards and ask questions about character locations and refillable mugs. He made it possible for us to get on our phone and use an app to look up the wait time of a ride. He was integral in the success of a little company whose movies we all enjoy and which so many attractions are themed after. And so many ways than anyone can count he changed our world for the better. His name will be forever be up there with the likes of Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and Walt Disney.

So I just want to say thank you Mr. Jobs and RIP

For what it's worth, my condolences go out to Steve Jobs' friends and families. This is truly a sad time for all involved, and for anyone who is a fan of Steve's and/or Apple.

But is this topic relevant to the Theme Parks Attractions and Strategies board? Perhaps in the way that discussions of Disney Resorts, Restaurants, and Transportation are relevant. Tangentially. We have separate boards for those subjects, and we also have one for Disney Rumors and News. This topic is a better fit for that board, and I have moved it there. So let this debate over what is and what is not an "on topic" post end now. :)

Steve Jobs was a brilliant innovator and visionary. He was a true pioneer unlike anyone we will see again in our lifetime. He was a Walt Disney. He was very much connected to Disney and the world has lost a truly remarkable man to this terrible disease called cancer. It is a sad day.

The idea of communications has been a long-term component of EPCOT. Remember the old vid phones for dining reservations and the communications center behind the golfball?
I had completely forgotten about the video phones and communications center in Epcot where we went to make dining reservations for the World Showcase... now we have facetime on our iphones! Wow, we've come a long way baby! Thank you Steve Jobs!

Well the man tinkering on the computer in his garage on Spaceship Earth is rumored to be Steve Jobs, no?

No, given the beard the character looks much more like Steve Wozniak (below):
