Sad News!

It's time to leave Petticoat Junction and move to Florida.:thumbsup2

I'm just one thing happening away from moving. I love my job, if it wasn't for that I'd be packing up and heading to your spare room.

Ordered the HTC Incredible at lunch today. They have to ship it, I should have it by next week. Thank goodness for employee discounts.

I thought they weren't shipping until the 14th? Is that just online?

There's a conflicting report on Engadget stating that a Verizon iPhone will land this summer. I guess time will tell.

There were similar rumblings last year. Unfortunately they'll probably never confirm that there isn't an iPhone coming, so if it doesn't, people will just be kept stringing along with rumors and hopes. It's a marketing tactic - people will avoid getting some other high-end phone in the hopes of the iPhone, until they finally DO come out with one, or the people get fed up with Verizon and switch just to get it...

That may be online Don. The person in the store said the latest it would ship is Tuesday. He said if it was in the warehouse, it could actually go out today. I could possibly have it on Monday. Fingers crossed.

The boss-in-charge-of-phones got his Incredible this morning, so I found a Droid on my desk today...now to figure it out :)

It does appear that the delay is in shipping phones from online orders.

Verizon iPhone Cometh, Just A Matter of Time

Sure, Steve Jobs struck a deal with AT&T to extend the AT&T exclusive clause by 6 months. This gives AT&T another 6 months of the being the exclusive carrier and data provide of Apple’s hugely popular iPhone here in the United States. And now, with the release of the iPad and iPad 3G, AT&T has the exclusive rights to carry and provide the data package for the iPad 3G.

But this whole “exclusive” business has to come to an end – and that being sooner rather than later.

Apple can only carry on with this whole “exclusive” mindset for so long. Because after all, the mobile phone and data device market is expanding and growing rapidly. The like of people like Google building their Android OS that facilitates mobile devices to access data from nearly every carrier known to man, is eventually going to put pressure on the iPhone in the United States. And when this happens, Steve Jobs will be forced to take the precious iPhone and open it up to other carriers.

And more than likely, when Steve Jobs realizes that he’s cut off his face despite his nose with the AT&T exclusivity deal, he will then have to react to being behind in the market place and have to open up to more carriers than just Verizon.

Perhaps this rapidly changing mobile market, and the explosive growth with mobile phones, will even cause Apple to take a more drastic approach and actually release the SDK (or whatever it’s called) to make the iPhone OS an open source platform just like Android.

Ordered my Incredible today. Each store was out of them, so I had to order it. It should be here Weds. I couldn't hold out any longer waiting for a verizon iPhone. Will report back once I get it up and running.

Looking forward to the report Don.

If I lived in an area with coverage I'd be all over it. I'm not close enough to any big cities that ATT covers with 3G
Do they just have this in certain areas or something?
I've seen comments like this all over the net but it baffles me- because we live in a small Texas town and this town, plus all the even smaller (and some are tiny- some barely 1000 or 2000 population at most, very rural) towns nearby and yet the 3G works in all these areas. It's not limited to only big cities here. So I'm confused. :confused3 Is it because it's so rural here somehow we can get coverage to a tower further away or something? IDK....

cut off his face despite his nose? that doesn't even make sense! If they are going to use an expression- they should use it correctly. To not do so, only makes them look um... nevermind, I'll be nice.
It's cut off his nose to spite his face.
LOL
But yeah, he IS cutting off his nose to spite his face... most definitely. Seems a LOT of people would like to have the iphone but are refusing to do so when it's limited to only AT&T.

Yes, the jist is the towers in our area do not carry ATT 3G coverage. Mike can give you the details of coverage area for broadband, Mhz, Ghz, etc. But I can get ATT voice, but not high speed 3G coverage at my home.

Okay but people are always saying not in a small city or near one... neither are we! So are you like REALLY far from a bit city? Cause the nearest city over 15,000 pop (to us) is about an hour drive (well maybe 40min, cause one might be considered a "big city" ... ) But still I don't really consider that "close". but I guess maybe in terms of towers- it's close enough?

Or is it just that some don't carry 3G coverage and I just lucked out?
*(but we also drove from Texas to Ca and had 3G coverage the whole way, except I think in one or two really "nothing for miles and miles" areas we had 'shaky' coverage.. in/out)

My Incredible should be delivered tomorrow.:banana::banana: I can't wait to start playing with it.

I think it is also a factor of how MUCH 3G coverage there is. I know for at least a period of time that they stopped all iPhone sales in the NYC area because the AT&T network couldn't handle all the data.

So if you are in a less populated area w/ 3G you may be better off than someone in a more populated area.

I'm pretty darn happy w/ my Motorola Droid on the Verizon network. I know some have had some varying issues with them but I've had mine since 8am on the first day of release and have yet to have any issues. :hippie:

The jist is, AT&T has a LOT less coverage (3G) than verizon. That matter to me because that means no coverage where I need it. If you have coverage awesome, I don't so I'm paying for that coverage when I will be unable to use it seems silly to me.

I agree. I want an iphone badly. However, I want to have service at my home even more so, I am sticking with Verizon. I'll wait it out.

It's already catching up with Apple. It was reported today that Android overtook iPhone OS as the second most popular smartphone OS in the US. I'm really curious just what the agreement is with AT&T. Engadget posted "proof" of an original 5 year deal. That would mean no Verizon (or anyone else) iPhone until 2012. Of course, those agreements can be changed at any time. I think if Apple doesn't do something they'll continue to lose market share to Android.

I also read on one of the other gadget sites that the exclusivity agreement was only extended for 6 months this time.

Who knows what the truth is...

Android has the advantage (and disadvantage) of multiple manufacturers and providers supporting it. Apple has themselves and AT&T.
