SAB Questions?

Not sure where to post this, but we are staying at BCV, so I guess I'll try here. A friend of mine just got back and told me that the pool was only open from 10:00 am. to 8:00 pm. Is that the case? I will be very disapointed, it that is true. Like to go for a dip before bed. Also, do they have floaties or life jackets available for rent? DS will need one. Getting psyched now, so tell me all about it. Counting down...........

The main pool does close early, in June it was more like 10 pm then 8 however.


The small pools are open much later. I think the problem is that there is no way to swim in SAB without lifeguards.

Correct SAB closes early because of the need for lifeguards. I've seen people in the Queit Pool at 1:00 am.

Just curious, why there is no way to swim in SAB without lifeguards? Is it b/c of all of the activities like the slide? Couldn't they just rope off the slide and put the net up at the bottom of it?

Again, just curious. Last time I swam at SAB was MANY years ago (possibly 94 or 95), actually, I think before it was what it is today.

You'll need to do ant rentals before the pool closes - plus return them.

The only reasons I can come up with is that there are sections of the pool that are eight feet deep with currents, there is also another section that isn't so deep but it also has a strong current and the pool as a whole is fairly spread out. These factors would make it more risky to let people swim unattended.

We were also bummed about not being able to swim in SAB after 8:00, but the quiet pool wasn't crowded and we enjoyed our time there also. Just my guess. Does anyone know for sure why the early closure?

All in all you will find yourself making time to spend in SAB. It was awesome!

Seriously, though, I remember our stay there, b/c it was the first time my entire family was over 21 (I'm the youngest). So, after a night out at Epcot and a few drinks later we were all ready for bed, except my mom. She was so happy to go out and have a few drinks with her "boys" (my older brother and me) that she had a few too many. It was about 1am and she was jumping on the bed saying we (brother, dad and I) should all go down to the pool. It took awhile, but we finally convinced her it was not a good idea. But the lights around the pool were all still on (which is probably normal), but I don't remember a lazy river and all.

Ok, I just read through this and want to let everyone know that my mom is not that wacky. She's actually really great and always so happy. Actually my brother and I always joke and say she is on some type of happy drug, but we don't know which. However, if we can find out what and market it, we will be RICH.

Lastly, for the record YC/BC opened Nov 5th, 1990. So, it wasn't actually a swamp, but I loved the comment anyway.

We stayed at the Yacht Club in June and SAB closed at 8pm then as well. When I asked a CM about it, they said they are required to have lifeguards on duty when SAB was open and the lifeguards went home at that time. We used the quiet pool until late evening/early morning and enjoyed it. But it sure would be nice to enjoy SAB late in the evening after a long day at Epcot!

I do think at the time you will be there, SAB will close by 8 pm, unfortuantely. When we were there late August last year, it closed by 8, however, we just got back from BCV on Monday and SAB was open until 10 pm during the whole time we were there. It seems that it is only open until 10 pm during part of the summer months, perhaps end of June until mid August. My ds was so looking forward to staying at the pool until 10 this trip and he was lucky to have done it twice. Too bad they close by 8 pm all other times of the year. I did notice some younger children with life jackets and saw others with floaties, not sure if they bought them from home or not, but my guess is they do provide them for rent. I know they rent out tubes and noodles for the "lazy river" section of the pool. My ds is 13.5 so we did not have to inquire about flotaion devices. Sorry.

My friend needed a lifejacket for her ds, and I believe (but not positive) she was directed down to the marina to pick one up. In any event, they do have them available and there's no charge to use them.

We stayed at BC in Aug of 92 and I remember watching the high fireworks of Illuminations from the hot tub. So, at one point, they were staying open later.
