I think this had been posted before but thought I'd bring it up again for those who will be coming down in the next few weeks.

The Stormalong Bay pool complex is being refurbished and they are closing it one section at a time for refurbishment. Those sections not impacted by the pool enhancement will still be available. The slide is still open but is going to be closed for it's refurbishment at some time.

Currently they expect all work to be completed by December 23, 2004.

Heading down Thursday so I'd like to set the proper expectation for DD. Thanks!

This was in an email newsletter I get:
Yacht and Beach Club Resort/Beach Club Villas - A rehab of different portions of the Stormalong Bay pool area will take place through early 2005. The main pool slide (the Flying Jib Slide) will be closed from January 3 to February 25, 2005 for painting. The "quiet" Admiral Pool at Yacht Club and the Tidal Pool at the Beach Club are open to Yacht and Beach Club guests during this renovation, plus a complimentary shuttle will run from the shipwreck area to the Boardwalk Resort pool during regular pool hours.

Old Key West Resort - The resort's main pool is under refurbishment, and is scheduled to reopen on December 16, 2004.

Actually, the kids shallow end is done. Right now they are doing the middle section (the part with the deep water loop), and that will be done by Dec 23. On Jan 3 they start on the end with the slide, and that will have the biggest impact. They whole thing will be open for Christmas week though.

Caskbill:

Thanks for all the info. Do you think the actual pool section where the slide feeds into will still be closed during Presidents week; February 18-26 or just the slide? Reopening is scheduled for Feb. 25. I can't imagine they wouldn't do everything possible to get at least the pool portion open during this busy week considering it is the largest portion of the pool. Seems absolutedly silly to me if they don't. I don't think you can even get a DVC reservation for this week.

Thanks, maminnie

Caskbill - Is just the lazy river section closed? Are the hot tubs and the section with the waterfalls open? We'll be there in 10 days!

Thanks!

Donna

Sorry I can't be more specific but they didn't give out any specifics as to what would be closed and when. The hot tubs are all open and I don't think they're affected at all. DVC is aware that closing the slide will be the most disruptive and they said they are going to try to minimize that. IMO I would think they would try to work around the busy President's week timeframe.

Anyway, in my original post I was only trying to give information to those coming down for the Christmas season that they can expect parts of the pool (lazy river section at this time) to be closed. That's all part of phase I. Phase II begins in January but there aren't any specifics on what happens and when.

Of course when the SAB slide closes, everyone can always pool-hop to OKW to use the new slide over there. And Kiester Coaster will be open at BWV.

But I'm afraid of the clown :scared: Thank you so much for the info on the kids section. I was thinking that it would still be closed so that was unexpected good news. I bribed DD with swimming tomorrow if she would JUST GO TO BED. Our 5A pickup is going to be fun fun.
