With this current incentive if you decide not to take the free 7nts can you still keep with pts that you purchased?

I posted for you on the Miscalcalculation thread too, but in case you didn't see it, the answer is yes. If you take the $5 off per point you still get to keep all our points for this year (it made my day when I found that out!!) :)

Minybear, just to confirm, yes you do get to keep all your points when you take the $5 off incentive and you get the $5 off your downpayment. In your case it would be:

220 pts at $75=$16,500 less 20% is $3,300

220 x $5 = $1100 This is the incetive amount

$3,300 - $1600 = $1700 This is left of what you owe for your down payment after you subtract your incentive and $500 downpayment.

You would be financing $13,200

In this scenerio you would get 220 points in February 2002 to use or bank and then you would get another 220 points in February 2003. This is why I chose to take the $5 off incentive, why would you take the hotel incentive and stay in a regular room when you could be staying in a DVC room.

Thanks both of you. I thought my guide had said if we took the $5 off then we could not have the pts for the year. So I was a little confused. I had no idea we could take off the $5 off the downpayment. Also I was thinking I can save the $1100 and put down for a room I want like a AKL savanna deluxe room.

I had my guide change our use year to Aug due to we normally vacation November - April. I hope I did not make a mistake on this.

The financial papers for us to fill out should be coming in Monday or Tuesday.

Wish me luck on getting approved.

I figure our times of the years that we vacation will change a lot over the next 40 years. Our kids our 4 and 5 right now so we take them out of school, in another couple of years we won't be able to take them out of school so we will have to work around that, and then once they get out of school we can go when ever we want. So things will change a lot. I liked the idea of getting points for Feb 2002 and then again in Feb 2003 so I left it with that. My understand is as long as you plan well you should be fine, and if there is a case that you have to cancel due to illness or whatever you can always rent those points. This was just my decision though.

Good luck with your approval, I don't think it will be a problem though, DVC doesn't seem to have to many restrictions on approvals.

I was just looking at mousesavers.com and the specials for the standard rooms (in the catagory I want). Right now if I divide $1100 by 7 I will get $157 a ngiht. That is a really good deal for a std room rate. Here a reg standard room is approx $200 and more. I will discuss with my husband and see what he says.

You are right about the Feb use year, but we normally vacation Nov-April. I just want to be save just incase something happens.

You are right that is a good deal for a standard room, I had almost decided to take that myself. But then I found out you can't upgrade from a standard. (I am not a snob but I like a water view at BC or savannah veiw at AKL) The other problem was that the hotel stay deal had to be taken by sometime in mid 2003, I don't remember when and if you don't use if for some reason you loose it and then once you decide on the free hotel stay you can't change your mind and take the $5 off. My guide had also told me there was a limited number of rooms available for the free night stays at each resort so I was afraid of availability, I have since read on these boards that as long as there is a room available they will let you use this incentive for it so I don't know which is correct. As long as you are okay with a standard room and you actually get to use it, it is a good deal you are right!

We took the 7 nights, why would any one want the free nights?, well we are going in May this year and staying at BC for free, yes it's a standard room, but still rated at $300 per night, also using some points to go over to WVL. It was a good deal for us, we were told there are no rescrictions.

Have a great weekend

We also just purchased and choose to take the 7 nights...

We had already booked a room at the BC, so that will now be paid for. We are going to bank this years points to take our Sr in HS next year on a big graduation trip.

By the time we calculated everything out we ended up saving about $1100.

You will have to look at it a few different ways and see what is best for you..

How did that happen? Didn't mean to post twice.

Yes, allforpooh, we figured it the same way.

Have agreat weekend

We took the 10 free nights, when we bought our 280 points.

I really spent some time on the "free stay" paper work. The paper work indicates that rooms are limited, but they are only limited by the number of "standard view/type" rooms at the individual resorts (everything except GF and All Stars). Each is booked on a first come, first served bassis, no earlier than 7 months prior, or as late as one week prior.

All stays must be booked by June 1st, 2003, with all stays completed by July 1st, 2003. You can cancel a "free" reservation, and rebook it at a later date. They prefer at least a 5 day prior notice for cancelations, but there seems to be away around that.

On the paperwork that you have can you choose Contp Tower rooms or is it just Contp garden rooms? i would like a nice standard room for my 7 nights.

Thanks for your reply. I had no idea that you had to wait until 7 months prior to book those rooms. So if I am going in Jan 2003 then I cannot book our room until June.

Islandhap,

How did you they calculate the number of free nights? We have not recd our paper yet, but our guide mention the 7 nights...We are buying 225pts...

Minybear...

It is my understanding, that only the Contemporary Wing/Garden rooms are part of this offer, nothing in the tower. The paper work also states that rooms may not be upgraded. However, I can see instances where you might get upgraded if the resort fills up after you have made your reservation, but don't count on it.

allforpooh...

I'll have to double check, but I think the break down is like this:

0 to 99 points = 0 nights free stay
100 to 209 points = 3 nights free stay
210 to 259 points = 7 nights free stay
260 to 309 points = 7 nights + 3 nights free stay
310 to 409 points = 7 nights + 7 nights free stay
410 to 559 points = ?? nights

I know someone on the board bought 600 points at BCV. I'm not sure how many free nights they were offered, but I think they took the $5/point discount.

Also keep in mind the black out dates:

March 28 to April 1, 2002
December 25 to 31, 2002
February 13 to 17, 2003
April 17 to 21, 2003

I was the one or at least one of the ones who purchased 600 BCV points. I was offered 7+7+7 nights free but, yes I did take the $5 discount.

Terry

Awesome, I wish I had 600 points, someday my prince will come, oops, for me it's my princess will come.

Ray,

Yea, I know what you mean, I am still waiting for my Grandma from Genovia to show up!:)

Just was approved for 250pts at the Beach Club Villas(Yeaaaa!).We were offered 7 nights subject to availability or $1,250.00 toward our down payment. It was said that the resort may actually sell out befor it opens. First payment is not due untill July but our use year started in Febuary.

Enyak

Welcome to the DIS Enyak.

Congratulations on getting approved. I am sorry I cannot say "Welcome Home" since I am not a member "yet". Our financial papers should be coming in today to fill out. Wish us luck.

Right now keeping the 7 free nights (inwhich I am paying for) for now. I was thinking about savng the $1100 and putting that money down towards a room catagory I want, but the cost would be double that for any other room type.
