???'s about time frames on fast passes?

The ethics of it aside, has anyone tried making their own FASTPASSes at home? I'd imagine a good scanner, Photoshop, and a decent printer would get something close.

Ok, as an ethics professor, I have to remind you that using fake FPs would be deception, which is morally wrong in most cases, and certainly in this one, for several reasons, not least of which is the failure to respect the humanity of our fellows, which we do every time we lie to them! Second would be the injustice of cheating a fair system in which others are playing by the rules.

Hey -- maybe I can get a gig writing for the UG with a new section on "Ethics at the Parks"! Then my department would give me travel money to go to WDW. LOL!

Lecture aside, the mental image I am having of park commandos at home making FPs with Photoshop is too funny!

One other caveat: They are copyrighted, so you could end up in the slammer!

Yeah, that would be an awkward prison conversation.

Prisoner 1: So, what're ya in for?
Prisoner 2: I'm doin' a nickle for counterfeit FASTPASSes. How's it goin', Martha?

I'm not advocating the practice, just asking if anyone's tried.

Actually, my mind wanders and I often think of things that I'd never do, but I'll have to say I've never thought of this.

We did use fastpasses from a previous day at ToT and the CM didn't ever seem to notice. We did have current fastpasses, but I pulled the old ones out of my little ticket wallet and figured we'd see if anyone noticed.

Len, loved your prison scenario!

Another strange question about FP's - Does anyone know if you can use tickets that haven't been activated yet that day to get a FP? Let me explain - we'll be at the MK early afternoon while DH is at a convention. He'll join us around 6 for the EMH. If we wanted to get fastpasses for when he joined us could I use his ticket to get him one too, even though he wouldn't actually be in the park yet? Obviously I'd have to meet him outside the gate to give him his ticket back to get in, but then we wouldn't have to wait to get FP's until he got there. Anyone?

marcimi, no. The FP machines recognize an activated pass. My son and dh didn't join us one morning as son was feeling ill and staying in the room. I was the official carrier of passes so I had all five of ours. I tried to get FP's for the three of us in the park and kept accidentally entering one of theirs and the machine would print a "not a valid FP" ticket.

Thanks for the help disney4 - I won't bother with bringing his and have to leave the park, etc. then. I thought I heard they all restart at 7:00 with the EMH anyways so it would only help us if I could get a window between 6 & 7pm and he could actually get there on time (iffy!) and find us. It's been over 4 years since our last visit, and at that time FP's were new and you could use anything to get them. We had hoppers with 1 day left on them from our last visit, and were able to use those the entire stay to get FP's, plus our new passes, and our room keys worked too! So we could effectively get three at a time. But we knew that wouldn't last! Thanks again!

OK.... then......... princess: anyway, thanks for the good reading folks!-

I just never understood why there were return windows if they weren't going to enforce them- we are not the type of people who would try to scam the system but when an employee encourages us to return at our leasure- why not? - we all like a bit of unexpected "Disney Magic"

Anyway, I appreciate all the info. I saw first hand how not enforcing the return time messed up the FP line for several tiny tots at Pooh- boy where the parents mad and the kids hot and bothered- it took all the fun of a "short" wait/return line away for that afternoon. Since we are going at a slow time we will not worry about FP as much as if we were going in June again. Maybe I'll go around and get FP's and give them out at random to tired looking parents and toddlers :flower1: ramdom acts of kindness- imagine that!
TKS again!

ITA and have been thinking about this since I posted. I understood that my returning after the window may result in a non-ride and don't begrudge those who have been allowed to use expired FP's. It kind of upsets me to learn that many do it intentionally but that's not really my business and I still won't plan to do that.

That said, it does make me wonder.....

Evidently the FP's are distributed according to some type of calculation and the CM's then have a ratio of FP to standby visitors to allow on the ride. IMHO arriving after the window affects the FP and Stanby waits as much as arriving prior. Having to wait much longer than then anticipated time in standby and FP I wonder if the CM's should (could) enforce both. I would not be comfortable knowing that my intentional breaking of the rules causes a longer wait for others - but that's just me.

During our December 04 trip we returned during our FP window for TT and it was closed. The CM said we could use the FP later that day if the ride went back operational and if not anytime during the vacation. We went on to other things that night and did not konw if TT went back open. We used the FP the next day but the CM did ask us why we were using a prior days FP. She checked a book to verify the time of our FP and allowed us on.

Personally I would welcome the "enforcement' of the ride window as IMHO its the most fair way to manage the the system for both FP holders and standby visitors.

/rant - sorry

They do strictly enforce the beginning time of the return window, just not always the end time.
I think arriving after the FP window doesn't affect the waits as much because there is always going to be some percentage of fastpasses that do not ever get used. So you'd be taking the place of someone who had a FP but will never come back. That being said, I bet when the FP line gets backed up, or on very crowded days, they probably do enforce the return times more.

No, if they have to let you in at the turnstiles for whatever reason without your ticket being scanned, it will not be recognized by the fastpass as being valid. Just go to Guest Relations and they can fix it for you!

Just wanted to update this after our previous trip. Twice we got fast passes (it wasn't very crowded) and when we got back (usually mid morning), they weren't even running a fast pass line due to the short lines. Both times the CM's told us to save the fast passes and use them later in the day. This may not be the case during the summer, but just wanted to let everyone know!

Have to say.. that I have used my FP many times over the busy season way after the return time and I have never gotten stopped. The only time I was stopped was when I pulled a FP out of my AP holder (which is where I keep them) and tried to get on BTM.. well I was stopped by the CM who said I couldn't use it.. that it was expired.. and I said.. but you just let me through before with another one.. and he said.. no.. that was just an hour late.. this is a year late!! LOL!! I had one left in my AP holder from my previous year's trip and didn't realize it.. we had a good laugh about that one!! The good thing about travelling solo is that you can get many FP if you move fast and early! I once was holding 8 FP for Splash and BTM by 10 am... just by going back and forth.. the windows are only 10 minutes out early in the morning.. so.. you are eligible much quicker.. worked the same for TOT and RNR one year.. that was a fun day!! And I used all but 2 of them within the alloted window that time!

We got FP's at TOT on 1/13 - the CM working the FP machine overheard us discussing if we would make it back in time due to our PS at the Brown Derby. He told us that we could use our FP after the time expiration window with no problem.

Glad I found this thread.. I was wondering how WDW did this because Disneyland they always let us use them past the time alloted.. So glad to hear that most likely all the ones at WDW will too

My brother gets fastpasses from the machine without putting his ticket in, however he does it, he can get as many as he wants and there is no time limit for when he can get another for a differewnt ride.

TooK DD and her friend a couple of weeks ago. They were about 45 minutes late getting to their FP time for Primeval Whirl. The girl at the FP line said no, and I persisted. She asked another CM who told her that the end times didn't matter, it was the beginning times that did. The CM was new and was just "going by the book".

Yes, this is normal. You can always use a FP, even if your time slot has expired that day. I haven't been stopped for being late on a FP (the same day) even during the Christmas season.

The CM who assists people at the Fastpass kiosks was inattentive regarding people tampering with the kiosks. Or maybe your brother works there and the CM who assists people was extending professional courtesy.
