Running with Scissors or Marie Antoinette?

I am trying to decide which movie I will see tomorrow (although likely I will see both, I am a pretty frequent movie goer). But...just in case I don't catch both has anyone seen either of these or both?
I know that they are entirely different genres, but today at work someone told me Running was awful. From the previews I thought it looked really funny so I hope they are wrong. Can anyone help me decide?

Yikes....

I only saw Marie Antoinette (so far), and I was going to deter you from seeing that, but now you're already discouraged from seeing Running With Scissors, so maybe...Saw III instead?? :rotfl:

Seriously though? I thought Marie Antoinette was somewhat of a waste of my matinee. It was GORGEOUS, that's for sure, but after about 45 minutes of looking at pretty things (which I couldn't afford, even if I was making my current salary 300 years ago), and getting no story at ALL, I was ready to move on.

I just don't understand how they could make the life of such a rich historical character so....boring?

Anyway, that probably didn't help much....but there it is. :confused3

I'm really interested in seeing Running With Scissors because the book was just fantastic!!! I also read Augusten Burrough's follow up book Dry and it was also incredible. Of course, it's rare that movies live up to the books, but I'd recommend Running. I may see it this weekend, so if I do, I'll be sure to report back!

I've read about half of Running with Scissors, and so far the book is really good.

Personally--I'd try Scissors....MA has gotten sucky sucky sucky reviews (well--except for the costumes and set decor).

Well, I'll be dissenting opinion...

"Running with Scissors" was the most overhyped book I've read this year! I thought it totally sucked...not funny, just sad if that is what happened to this guy (though I believe it's more along the lines of Million Pieces and mostly created). It's written to shock, and explicitly graphic on the homosexuality.

I'd go to Marie...at least it's got pretty dresses!

Well the only thing left that I have not seen that I want to see is Flicka. But I was more interested in the other two.
I don't like scary movies at all so I can't go to Saw 3 lol, I would wet myself.

Has anyone seen Flicka?

So....I went to see Running with Scissors.
At the beginning I liked it, it was pretty comical and interesting. But it just got a little too psychotic for me. A few people walked out. I was thinking about it, but I figured I would wait it out and see.
I didn't really care for it at all. It was borderline awful....but I stayed and now I think I would have wasted my money on Marie with the beautiful scenary. Lol.

Not that it's any help as you've already chosen your movie ....

But, I wanted to state that I agree w/the OP's who said that the costumes and set designs were amazing. I called them yummy. The gowns, the shoes, the food, the scenery -- everything was just to die for and it must've been a dream to make that movie!!!! However, the ending left me empty. It seemed to lack dialogue.

I can think of an alternate ending that would've better than how they ended it. If you want to know how I thought they should've ended it, PM me and I'll tell you. I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet.

For those of you who saw the Kirsten Dunst version ... did you see the old c. 1940's version? Even though I didn't get to watch all of the old version, it follows the Sophia Coppola story line pretty true. However, the old version makes Louis seem quite a dimwit/simpleton. Like he's had a lobotomy or something. I'm sure it was quite a production for it's time, but lost the "luciousness" w/the black and white.

I really want to see Marie Antoinette... I heard that they changed some of the history, though. :confused3 (Not sure about that) But I guess I just want to see it because I was at Versailles and I find the French Revolution very interesting, lmao.

Although I didn't think it totally sucked, I must agree that the book was not funny. I found it to be horrifying and very disturbing. If it is indeed a true-to-life story, I am amazed that the author is still alive to tell about it. I just recently finished the book and am still having a hard time fathoming that everything in that book actually took place.

My plan was to read the book and then go see the movie to compare the two. I think I am going to skip the movie. There are several parts of the book that I have no desire to see on the big screen!

I think that I know the disturbing parts you are thinking of...I don't want to read the book now at least.
