Running Skirts vs. Skirt Sports

I have some old Skirt Sports and the compression shorts underneath aren't tight enough and ride up and I get chafed. Does anyone have a pair of the Running Skirts with the shorts? I was wondering how tight they were and if they stayed in place. Thanks!

Shan, I just bought a Skirt Sport today at the Expo. The woman claimed that they've changed the underliner (in 2009) and the new ones are really good at staying put. She said the most important thing for not having them ride up was to be sure you are wearing the smallest possible size. I bought the Happy Girl which has the longest shorts. I'll let you know how it goes.

I have a Runningskirt, Brooks, Champion and LL Bean skirt and all of them ride up. I cannot even believe that I've bought another skirt. This is my last try.

I would also love to know how they are. I have tried a lot and always have problems, but I'm probably not buying the smallest size possible.

Good luck and have fun on Monday!

Nope, last time I used Body Glide I got the worst chafing, have scars to prove it! I think it just helped the shorts to move around even more. :lmao:

There is another product out there called SportShield. It rolls on and is wonderful to prevent chafing. You can't really tell it is there. I used it on my thighs a couple of weekends ago and did a 90 minute run with not one dot of chafing. (was wearing a running skirt, but not sure which brand) Another friend of mine used SportShield and it lasted through an entire Ironman triathlon in the rain.

As for the skirts...I don't have any of the newer SkirtSports (the original!! yay, Nicole!), but have 3 older ones. I agree the shorts could fit a little more closely. But the product I described above worked great. (no, I'm not a rep) I also have a skirt I love by Brooks. Actually, two from Brooks...I like them a whole lot. One other one from Zoot, which rides up a little bit, though I like the fabric of the shorts alot.

I think the new athletic skirts from runningskirts have tighter shorts now. I haven't tried then yet because I wear the running skirts (with briefs.)

If you want a skirt with shorts that are guaranteed to not ride up, try the SparkleTech from sparkleskirts.com. They are the only ones I've ever tried that stay down. They fit true to size, and leah, the owner, is great!

I just ordered 2 new skirts from runningskirts and the shorts still ride up. They are a little tighter than the last ones I ordered, but I still had to stitch them tighter.

I have 2 of the tattoo print skirtsports ones and I sized down in them and they fit perfect! No need for bodyglide or sweat. They stay down from the moment I put them on. But I don't know if all of their skirts are the same or if those were different because they were limited edition.

You could also try skirtsports bikergirls. They have a rubbery type band on the bottom of the shorts so they don't move. Only thing is they come with a bike chamois that I had to remove. Took about 20 minutes to do that with a seam ripper and now I have a running skirt that stays in place.

I run in one from New Balance which I found to be not riding up at all. I had a smaller size on but looked like I had sausages underneath so I wouldn't say go too small.

Another vote for the SparkleTech skirt from Sparkle Skirts! So comfy and NO ride-up at all! I have worn it in 4 races and have gotten no chafing anywhere. She does have some that are sparkly but you can get ones that are solid colored and no sparkle. I also have a few running skirts and that is the ONLY one that I dare wear to any race longer than a 5K due to my "chub rub"

I had an older skirt sports skirt that I finally had to get rid of because I chafed so bad with the short fabric underneath those skirts. I wear running skirts now, and slather on the body glide just under the short part. It works like a charm for me! The newer skirts do fit snugger, but I haven't worn them without body glide to see if the shorts stay down better.

Leah can also custom do almost any logo in glitter on the sparkletechs. I don't know who to ask about using it, but I think that the WISH logo in lime green glitter would be fab!

I run in a Happy Hour skirt from Skirt Sports. It's much longer than any of the other skirts I've found - the shorties have a 7 inch inseam. I'm not at all comfortable in running shorts or the 4 inch inseam shorties, but I've trained for and run two half-marathons in my Happy Hour skirt.
