I'm late to the party but what else is new. I am so proud of you Natalie for doing this! If I wasn't going to Hawaii in February, I would so come down to cheer you on!

Been lightly raining here all day which made me happy cause I knew it would be cool for running!

I started the Jeff Galloway Conditioning training and will be starting his princess half training on Oct 2nd.... hang on I will be in Disney on Oct 2nd :headache:
Oh well I guess I will be starting that training on vacation :sad2:
Life goes on and the training will get me another trip to Disney!!!!

More cheering!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

So I finished week one of the Jeff Galloway Conditioning program today and I like it. I did the one mile run/walk today and was about 15 seconds faster then last weeks mile!!!

I also made my tutu for the race... I will be running as Ariel so it's green and purple

I also asked the nice people on the DISigns board to make me some purple shells that I can iron on my white tank top for the race so here is my shell bra

and also from the DISign boards I got these great iron ons for Dot and I to wear to the parks after the race

So that's my training/trip update

so I think I was pushing myself too fast with the running cause I was getting some awful pain in my shin. On sunday I started walking instead so I walked 5k and my shin hurt for the 1st half but was better after.
Monday I did some walking on the treadmill at the gym and I decided I don't like that as much
Tuesday I took a break to rest my leg
tonight the girls and I walked 5k and I did it 5 min faster then on Sunday and my shin didn't hurt at all

So now I think I am going to focus on walking and increasing my distance and speed.

I'm on board!

You're doing really well so far :woohoo: And I love your outfit too!

I have to say I have a particular interest in your trip as I'm considering aiming for the next TOT 10 miler as a kick-starter for my fitness regime. I HATE running :rotfl: but what could be better motivation than knowing you get to go to WDW as a reward? :thumbsup2

I'll be interested to see how you go with your training as I get sore shins too - it's my biggest problem and often the reason I stop running. I did find the Jeff Galloway program really good for injury prevention and actually got to the 10 mile long 'runs' (not that I was actually running them lol!). I gave up that time because long distance is not easy where I live (hilly, very few footpaths, and the roads are all narrow and windy!).

This time I am determined to keep going! Maybe we can help motivate each other? :goodvibes

Welcome aboard!!!!

The shin pain was killing me too but now that I am focused on the walking long distance first then increasing my speed they are fine!!!

Deciding if I wanna tackle walking 10k this weekend or put it off till next weekend

I am so lucky its flat here!!!!

The TOT 10 mile looks amazing, I will be there that time this year and wish I had started my training sooner so I could do it and go to the after party which looks amazing!!!

I found when I was doing the longer distances I was getting hungry and losing strength by the end. It was at about 8k where I hit a wall. My mum put me onto these lollies that are especially designed for athletes that contain a burst of carbs and protein. I found if I had one per 5k it really helped get me through! They are of course full of calories, but if your really aiming for endurance they'll help to get you through the first few long ones while you're still building your stamina.

Maybe try 7.5k this weekend and see how you go with that before tackling the whole 10k? You've got plenty of time to build up nice and slowly :thumbsup2

You can always do next year's TOT ;)

I have also heard of jelly beans and other things to eat while doing long distances.

I was also thinking 7.5 but i will see how I feel after the 5k

I am kinda hoping to do the Tink half in Disneyland and princess again next year so I can get the coast to coast medal!

Lets see how this year goes first!

Jealous! I'd LOVE to the coast to coast, but coming from Australia there's just no way I could afford it :(

I'm sure once you've done the first half, if you keep up the training it will be no problem to do a couple more :rotfl:

I get that shin pain when I don't keep up with walking. I have had it lately too. It's awful, but I found stretching the shin when I hurts does help and within a few days it should stop. but it sucks.

Well let's conquer the 1st half marathon 1st then I will think about next year :goodvibes

Well I am glad I figured it out quickly and got it stopped so now I can focus on my distance and not worry about the pain!!!

Come on Jen, shouldn't you be trying to do everything at Disney once??? I say you should do the Tower of Terror 10miler... the after party at DHS with the villains looks so amazing!

Hi Natalie, dropping by as promised :).

Love your tutu and shell bra design, that's going to look awesome! I'm still debating my costume but I'm leaning towards Belle in her blue dress.

You're doing great with your training, just be careful of doing too much too soon, especially when you had some shin pain. I made that mistake back in the spring and ended up taking a week off completely and then starting up again from scratch. I've read in several places that a good rule of thumb is to increase your distance by a max of 10% a week.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for stopping by!!!!

I heard the 10% rule too but I thought it was for running and you could increase walking a little more.

I listen to my body pretty well so I will know if I'm pushing too much and will slow down :thumbsup2
I think the blue Belle costume is a great idea!
Are you going to get one of those running skirts or a tutu?

I just found your PTR and am joining in. I am training for the Princess Half too.

I LOVE your Ariel tutu and shells. I was thinking of doing a green sparkle skirt and cutting purple fabric shells and gluing them on a nude or white tank but we'll see. I would love to run in a tutu but I am afraid it will annoy and I'll ditch it.

Good luck with your training.:thumbsup2

Glad you are following along!!!!

I am afraid the tutu will drive me nuts too but I made it so I'm wearing it. If I have to ditch it to complete the race i will. I am thinking of making an extra just in case

Great to know another Ariel!!!!
