As I'm trying to balance what I'm eating - I still want to continue to lose weight but be sure I'm eating enough and the right things. I'd love to get ideas from all of you. So tell me what's a day in your life like food wise? :)

I eat "clean". Very little processed food, no white food (ie, sugar, bleached flour, biscuits, pancakes, pastries, potatoes, white rice, etc). I eat broiled, grilled, boiled, steamed, baked, but not much fried. Besides, when you take out the white stuff, what's the point to frying, anyway?? I eat fruits and vegetables and drink primarily water. Although, my caveat is this: I am 51 years old and trying to avoid diabetes and heart disease, so far it's working and at my age, I don't have the time to work hard enough to work off pastries!! :lmao:

I try to eat what steph posts, but do a very poor job of it. When I drink my water and keep my snacks limited to fruits, veggies, light yogurt adn low fat cheese, I do ok. Start with oatmeal adn peanut butter toast is a nice filling way for me to start my day. That's not easy, though. It is very hard to lsoe weight in training. Many of us still feel like bottomless pits, even though we are in our third week of taper. If you make teh right choices, though, you can eat enough to be satisfied and lose weight, to an extent. If you figure out how to do that, let me know. ;)

I eat way to much but I try to eat way to much of the good stuff and keep the bad stuff to vacation time.

I start my day with a big bowl of Cherrio's with a banana cut up on it and skim milk. I have a large glass of water and a cup of coffee. About 6am

I go to the Gym and walk various distances then swim or do sprints in the pool. About 7am

I eat a good healthy lunch about 10am, something like a can of veggie soup with a can of drained tuna in it, and a couple of slices of dry whole grain bread.

About 4pm I have my second lunch/dinner at the mall where I work, usually salads and baked potatoes at Wendy's or steamed veggies and rice with grilled chicken at the China Wok or a subway sand.

At 9pm in the evening I will eat a light something, usually a Healthy Choice frozen dinner or something like that.

The big things are to avoid all fried food and keep the sugar and fat to a minimum.

But I'm just a walker so you might be more interested in what the runners eat.

I would ditto everything that has been said so far. However, healthy snacking in between meals works for me the best so I don't feel like the bottomless pit. I keep lots of almonds, peanuts, pretzels (low or no salt) and 100-calorie popcorn packs. I also eat plain or vanilla yogurt with granola and fruit when I need a pick up or something sweet. I try to keep my fiber content up and fats/sugars down. Oh, and find a great multivitamin that works for you too. That is really important!!!

Has anyone read the flat belly diet thing? Where you eat monounstaturated fats with EVERY meal??? It sounds kind of funky but apparently works for some people.

I try to eat better but am not a fan of anything that is too restrictive and doesnt include a weekely trip to my lcoal pizza joint. I tend to make sure I stick with healthy snacks and keep an eye on portions. for breakfast I have a vitatop vitamuffin. they are low fat, high fiber and only 100 calories and I get my guilt free chocolate fix for the day. I follow that with a mid morning piece of fruit and ususally some Kashi crackers. lunch is varied. pizza, Subway, sushi. etc. but again--portion control and I dont go overboard with the junk (No mayo etc.). I almost never drink soda. I stick to unsweetened tea or just plain water. for dinner we go with lean meat, steamed veggies and rice or pasta etc. rarely have desert. it has worked for me for the past 3 years as I have been holding with a 25lb weightloss over that time period.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to incorporate many of these things (including the pizza :) ) I'm interested in everyone who is active and training for something's diet! :goodvibes:

I have to eliminate all dairy two days before a long run. I should eliminate it period but it just hasn't happened yet. I can only immagine how good I would feel it I weren't a walking gastric bomb. Sorry for the image.:cool1:
