Runners UNITE! We've graduated C25K, so let's keep on going!

Hi guys! I've been around, but not running. I know - these past months I said I couldn't wait for my DH to get home so I'd have a sitter, and he's been home a week and a half and I've run once. I really, really need to get back into the groove before Corinna leaves me in the dust in October!! Corinna, we definitely need to meet up - I'll be there from the 21-28th, and Saturday we have no plans but the race. Friday, we're going to EPCOT to see the Village People and then to PI with some friends. I'm excited because DH might be able to come if he's not in training!! And my parents and sister and Russ will be there for sure.

Hey girl. We don't blame you ONE BIT for enjoying your time with your DH. Right, ladies? :confused3

ENJOY every minute and you'll get back in the groove in no time!

That's right, Kim! Actually, I always think the hardest thing is when things change. Even when they have changed the same way before, it's hard to transfer the new habits along again. Maybe that is just me....

Wow - we've been so busy, I couldn't even find us in the list of WISH threads......the shame, the shame!

Anyhow, I finally replaced my missing shoes. They are still lost with the luggage, but I made it to the running store on Friday. I also got a water bottle belt that is like the one I have in Michigan, but I don't like it as well. Sigh.

I ran 5.25 miles on Saturday morning. Up and down the hills. Well, truly, I walked up some of the hills. The 13K is still taunting me from just beyond the horizon. My feet and knees were tired after that first long run in a while. Thankfully the weather is nice now, at least!

Hope things are going well for my fellow-sometime-runners! :grouphug:

So, when you jump back in, you really JUMP back in, don'tcha? :rotfl:

Damn, girl. You're NUTS.

Congrats on the new sneakers. I'm thinking I might be ready to replace mine. My shins have been giving me a bit of grief when I run. Could be the lack of running....:rolleyes1 Or it could be that my sneakers are over a year old. :confused3 We'll see.

I went out on Saturday in the humidity and ran/walked 4.5 miles. I felt like a cop at the end of the month, gotta hit that quota. (I don't know any cops, that could totally be an old wives tale  ). Anyway, since the end of August is looming, and I challenged myself to hit 30 miles, then I felt like I had to go longer than normal - even in the swealtering heat. Didn't feel so hot afterwards, but I did it. Today I hit the TM at the gym and did another 2. So hopefully between now and Friday I can squeeze in another 5. I plan on increasing the challenge for September, since the weather will hopefully break a bit and I can get back to walking some days at lunch. :thumbsup2

That's about it for me. One of these days I'll get my food in line too. Baby steps for me....

Yes, I am a nut. I attribute it to the blocks here being really, really big. It is easy to do a big loop of about 5 miles on blacktop sidewalks. Well, it's not easy, but it is a route that makes sense. Except for the hills.

I wish I hadn't had to get new sneakers. Oh well. Probably year old sneakers are ready to be phased out, though!

I am so impressed with the way that you are plugging away at that 30 mile goal. You can make it, I know you can! I saw your comments on your journal about the joys of TM running. I am totally with you - it takes longer to rack up the miles on the TM. Out in the world, I manage a pace of an average of 12 min/mile, maybe a little less. On the treadmill, I am lucky if I can hold it at 14min/mile. Not sure if it's the problem with calibration on the treadmills or the mental issues of moving your feet and not actually going anywhere. Sometimes the advantages of the treadmill do outweigh that crazy slowdown, but it never fails to annoy me at least a little.

So, what are you upping it to in September? Maybe I'll match your challenge - I've never tried setting a mileage goal for the month before. Is that a larger challenge you are part of or just your own personal challenge?

Tomorrow should, in theory, be another running day for me. We have some other stuff going on in the morning, though, and a meeting in the evening, so I am not sure how that is going to go. It may be a treadmill day for me tomorrow, or else an early morning run, I guess.

Thank you SO much, Corinna. I sometimes wonder why I am doing this challenge. It's certainly not to show off (when some other people post 30 miles/week  ), it's really to get myself going. I will not back down from a challenge, especially if it's put out there for other people to see/know about.

This is my own personal challenge. I think there are other weight loss and maybe mileage challenges within the DIS WISH boards. For some reason, in May, I decided to track how many miles I was putting in. And back then I was walking several times a week at lunch (3 miles/day) plus running a few days a week. So the miles just racked up. Then as the summer kicked in and the heat came with it - I got a smack in the face with the 22 miles. July kind of went the same way, so I needed to motivate myself to get out there more. I thought 30 was realistic and I was definitely doing better in the beginning of the month. But at this point, you're right. I'm gonna do it - NO MATTER WHAT. :thumbsup2 I'll be outside walking around at 11pm on Friday.

September - I'm going to be conservative and go for 35 miles. I'll be away from home for 5 days on work travel (with access to a TM) and I have a definite 3 miles in the 5k I'm running on 9/30. So 35 shouldn't be a problem. October - not much going on & the weather should be a LOT better...so I'm probably gonna shoot for 40. :faint:

You in, Corinna? Anyone else too? :confused3 JOIN ME!! :grouphug:

Kim - Sure, I'm in! With the 13K in October, I really need to put the miles in this month. I am not always the best at follow through on recording these things, but I will try! I know I have seen other challenges on the board where you pick your goal - or maybe that was on Sparkpeople, I'm not sure. No matter - It will be fun to add up the number of miles I log in September (I hope!)

My son was climbing on the counter tonight and as I was lifting him down, he put his foot on top of my kneecap and something about it just was not right and I ended up with ice on my knee. Hopefully tomorrow it will be completely fine. Time for bed!

OK, girls, I am back!! I got up at 6 am this morning and went to the gym for my appointment with a personal trainer. We talked about my goals and such, and he gave me a talking-to about not stretching before running. ;) He showed me how to use the circuit weights and designed a mini-fitness program for me. (Stretch, run ten minutes to the gym, circuit training, 30 minutes of cardio on M-W-F; stretching and 45 minutes of cardio on T-TH-SA.) I'm planning on doing my long run on Saturdays now. And now all I have to do is train Russ to sleep until 8 am so I can shower after I get home! This morning he got up at 6:45 am and poor DH had to get ready for work with "help."

I'm up for a mileage challenge! I was doing well in the beginning of the summer - almost 55 miles in June, almost 28 miles in July...and six miles in August so far. But I obviously need to get better so Corinna doesn't leave me in the dust in October! And I have a 5-mile as part of the Spokane Marathon two weeks before the Tower of Terror, and I'm signing up for a 5K in September on base. (Woohoo, a 5K in the place I actually train - no hills!!)

Hey Kat! :goodvibes Sounds like you have a GREAT plan in place!!

Um, I didn't know you weren't stretching before running. I would have yelled at you myself! :scared: That's just-a not good. But now you know. :thumbsup2

Jump in on the challenge for September!! WE CAN DO IT!! :dance3:

Hey girls, how's it goin?

I was able to get out for a 3 mile run on both Saturday and this morning. :thumbsup2 Saturday was the first time I'd run a solid 3 miles with no walk breaks in I-don't-know-how-long. :thumbsup2 And then I did it again today.

This week is gonna be nuts at work, and the kids start back to school on Thursday. But hopefully I get in at least one more run this week and then again on the weekend. I go away for work travel on Monday and will return on Friday. So I hope to hit the dreaded TM while I'm away, since I will only have ME to worry about...no munchkins or husband. Wait, did I just do a little dance? That wasn't very nice of me, now was it? :rolleyes1

Kim, you are doing so great - I noticed that you added some miles today, too.

It was the first day of school here today, and I didn't run. I did do lots of other things, though, including getting my retainer - my teeth are done! - and buying some more fresh fruit. We were completely out. Or almost completely. Anyhow, good things. I don't know if I am going to go with MWF running (preschool half days) or T-Th-Sat running - preschool full days, but swimming lessons on Saturday mornings. It's a tough call. Again, I am thrown off by the schedule change, even when it is for the ultimate good. I am back to tracking my food as of today as well. I don't know why it helps so much, but it does.

Thanks for noticing. :goodvibes I got in a 1.5 mile walk at lunch today. It was pretty darn toasty out there, but I did it anyway. It had been a while since I've walked & cleared my head at lunch.

Sounds like MWF might be better, so there's no conflict with swimming? :confused3 Either way, it's great that you're planning it out. :thumbsup2

As far as the food tracking...I started doing the same today. :thumbsup2 I really needed to be accountable again.

Well, I am constantly surprised. I went out do do 6 miles this morning on the hills. I ended up with 6.5. Of course, the hills being what they are, I end up walking more than I would if it were flat. I keep telling myself that, anyhow. 8.1 miles by the end of October seems well within my grasp! I figure I'll hit 7 next weekend and then there is the possibility of that 10K I was considering but haven't registered for. Woo hoo. Also, I did better on the hills today - ran a larger portion of them, I think. It helps that it is not hot and humid.

OH, and you remember that podfitness workout that was kicking my butt so badly a couple of months ago? I did that one on Thursday and actually ratcheted it up a notch or two. :cool1: The only question is: Why???? :rotfl:

The only question is: Why???? :rotfl:

Don't ask, girl. Just embrace it! :thumbsup2 There are times we fully expect to have a GREAT run or workout and it is the complete opposite.

A big honkin' WOW  to you for putting in 6.5 miles!! That is AWESOME!!

And I couldn't agree more that that 8.1 miles is attainable (even though I have known that you could do it for a while now :rolleyes1 )

Take care and have a GREAT week!

I think the funny thing now is that I think of adding on a mile and even at the end of the run, I think, well, that's only an extra 11 or 12 minutes. Except yesterday it wasn't, cause those hills slow me down. I vaguely remember a time when running for a whole 5 minutes seemed an unlikely task. It is mind boggling that 6 months later I'm thinking "Eh - it's just 11 or 12 more minutes. I can do that." Of course, were it not for the threat of the 13k looming, I probably wouldn't do that, but never mind that!

Oh, and just because I coulddo it didn't mean that I actually WOULD do it! I'm just glad I'm actually finding ways of putting in the necessary miles now.

Kat - how is it going with that personal trainer? I was thinking I should add in some weights a couple days a week and was planning to go work with someone at the YMCA, but still haven't done it yet. The problem is they have this whole elaborate process for getting a trainer or a consultation or anything and it involves filling out and turning in a form with times available and then a trainer contacts you. I think it is a lame process and would rather be able to call, say I want to meet with a trainer and have them offer me available times. So I have to get over that!

Anyhow, I hope it's going well for you!

Man, Corinna, you're doing so well and I'm doing nothing. I'm definitely going to be eating your dust in October! I got really sick last weekend - I thought it was a 24-hour bug but I've had a really hard time recovering from it. I'm still not eating very well and have barely enough energy for the day, much less running. I'm probably hitting the doctor tomorrow to see if it's not something more serious. Because I need to get back into training mode really soon or I'll be in trouble in WDW!!

The trainer is great! He did a consultation and usually does a "test" but the computer broke. I do know my resting heart rate is great. :rotfl: We're trying the test again on Wednesday - I'm afraid of the push-up part! He does the circuit training with me on Wednesdays, making sure I'm using all the machines correctly and everything.

The good thing about this stupid sickness is I lost another 6 pounds so I'm down 30 pounds total since January. :lmao:

I am telling you, Kat, there will be no dust kicked up by me in October. Well, probably. I'm in the "hoping to finish still running" category, as you know. It would be nice to be done with enough time to ride a couple rides, but I am wondering if the lines are going to be worse and worse as the evening goes on.

If you are sick, you can't kick yourself for not training - you really can't! Speaking of which - are you feeling better or did you end up at the doctor's?

It is so cool that your resting heart rate is great - I bet you'll do well on the other tests too. I have yet to contact the YMCA about a trainer.....

You can always finish running even if you walked the last mile before the end! :thumbsup2 Trust me, that's about how I finished Bloomsday which was a 12K. I'm a bit worried, though, because at the end of Bloomsday all I wanted to do was eat - not ride rides!! But, that was at the beginning of my "training" so maybe I'll do better this time around. (Yeah right, after the 4-mile Cherry Picker Trot, all I wanted was an ice cream! :lmao: )

I am feeling massively better today, thank goodness. (Unfortunately DH now has it. ) I went to the gym with a friend and Russ actually behaved in the play area! He came with me to the weights to "help" though. He can only count to three and then starts over, which makes it hard for me to keep track! But I added another couple of miles from the Treadclimber (evil) and treadmill. It's been a while since I've been on the treadmill and I was running easily at 4.5 mph - I remember back in the C25K, that was my stretching it speed!

I am sure they will have post-race refreshements. It's customary, isn't it? Not that I have ever managed to eat any of them in the two whole races I've run.

That is so cute that Russ is counting for you. Too bad "helping" isn't always helpful. The intentions are good, though!

Glad you are feeling better. Sorry your husband is now afflicted! Hope you are ALL feeling completely better soon.
