Runners' stairway from hell

Find me another new mega ship without a running track. I doubt it exists…again Disney displays their uniqueness.
Find me one without a casino. That doesn’t make Disney’s lack of a casino a sign of incompetence

I am on now and I do not believe that the promenade goes around the aft of the ship. There are stairs back there (which as mentioned before are closed), but when I was off the ship today, it looks like they just go to doors that would go into the Arendelle restaurant on Deck 5, so I don’t think you can go completely around.
Yes, it definitely goes to doors. I missed my chance the first day by not opening one. I'm pretty sure it wasn't labeled.
This ship is different. I had trouble finding the forward located exit on deck 4 to go out to the promenade area. I knew there was one as I had seen it from the outside. I finally realized there are blank double doors (no glass) with a auto open button on the side instead of the normal glass and wood framed doors which they do have in other places. But those plain doors sort of look like you shouldn't use them, even though they don't say that.

I'm sure there is tons of great stuff about the wish that I will love in 2.5 weeks when I go so, I am in no way trying to come off as negative Nancy. Do I personally think not having a full loop promenade sans stairs is a poor design, yes but we're entitled to our own opinions and there is tons of stuff on board I am very much looking forward to (so come on Uncharted be ready by 8/5!) ....but the argument about gambling.....apples to oranges. Disney is family-oriented and gambling is ill-considered. I don't personally think gambling is morally bad though it's not for me, but Disney's lack of gambling is in keeping with a certain family image. Running/walking on the other hand is literally a huge part of Disney's image (ahem Run Disney).

Right I wasn’t comparing a casino to a track, just saying they’re all design choices and trade offs that are made when these ships are built. And not having something the other ships have doesn’t automatically make it a bad choice.

To me there’s a difference in preferring there was still a track, and saying that lack of a track is a sign they don’t know what they’re doing. As if no intelligent person could ever have a different preference than theirs. (Not you, just in general)

Disney doesn't have mega ships. Even the new ship is quite a bit smaller (in terms of cabins, guests, and size) than the new mega ships.

And why should Disney's ships be like every other ship? No thanks.

Approximately how many people actually run on the ships? I have been on deck 4 all times day and night. I have never seen more than a few people (3-5) running. The majority of times there was no one running. Honestly whats your guess, 40, 75, 100? So, if there is generally 100 people who run that’s only 0.04% of say an estimated 2500 adults on a 4,000 passenger ship. I can’t imagine any company adjusting plans to satisfy that low number of patrons. It’s impossible to meet everyone’s expectations or desires.
Agree that it is a relatively small number, but your "0.04%" number is misleading. 2,500 adults: 1% is 25, 4% is 100....

You’re correct I should have moved the decimal making it 4 %. That comes from being in a hurry. But 4% is still a pretty small percentage. And I doubt there are even 100 people running on the ship.

I get it but we are all in a CRUISE. I don’t think Disney had runners on their mind when they design ships. For fitness they have a fitness center. I am also not happy on the new design Specially for my mother who simply cannot even do stairs. But I think we’re asking a bit much for a cruise line to design a ship to have a running lap track
I will say the walking deck stairs may be bad but the gym I’ll be in heaven looks that have good treadmills

Disney has never had Casinos on their ships. but they have always had running tracks. I don't get your point. I'm sure if Carnival built a new ship and left out the Casino their loyal cruisers would be outraged.

Yeah, you are right why should a ship have a walking or running deck where people actually do something healthy on a ship. Silly me thinking Americans might actually want to exercise and not just eat and drink all day. What was I thinking?:duck:

Oh, whatever. Yeah, let's turn this into an "Americans are lazy" thread because Disney didn't include a running track on their cruise ship. As if cruises are the place to go and be healthy in the first place. As if Americans are somehow the only lazy people. As if you can't still exercise at the fitness center, or in the Hero Zone, or in your stateroom, or by walking around the ship and taking the stairs instead of elevators, or by running the 5k at Castaway Cay, or by swimming, or...

I get that some runners are disappointed in the change, but come on. This is getting ridiculous.

The 4% doesn't matter that much. When you look at how many children can go to the BBB on a 3 or 4 night cruise, it is less than 4%.

The difference of course is that the value of BBB can be expressed in money. A running/walking track is a + or - on the list of whether or not to prefer DCL.

I'm not saying they should or shouldn't have either casinos or running tracks. The point is nothing says Disney has to put something on their ship just because other cruise lines have it, or because their other 4 ships have had it. That's a weak argument. Disney is different from other lines in many ways. Some I like, some I don't. Would I prefer it to have a looped running track with no stairs? Sure, I love to run the promenades. I just don't share the cynical view that if something doesn't line up with my preferences, it was obviously created by idiots or done with shady motives.

I’m not too disappointed. I saw the gym
And the equipment seems awesome. Yeah during Covid when gyms were closed I built home gym, so that matters

You/ve not been carefully reading all the reports from the ship then. We are actually on board. Two adults well over 70 and we are finding no end of things that are of interest.

Another instance where people are focusing on what could be better not on what is actually there and is good.
You've come in here to this thread once previously, declining to read the topic, and dispensing dismissals for people who have valid complaints without knowing what it is they're talking about.

Now you're back to pump sunshine on people who continue to have complaints about it?

What is it, precisely, you're bringing to this thread other than being dismissive of people discussing an issue in a thoughtful manner?

It's disappointing that they decided to use the Wish for the cruise after WDW Marathon Weekend (which will be full of runners). After reading more about it I wish they had used an older ship instead. Ah well. I'm already booked to race at Disney and to do the official CC5K. But it definitely looks like the Wish will be a one and done (well 2 since we're doing a b2b) for us for more than just the lack of the walking/jogging track. I'll go back to the Fantasy or maybe start trying other cruise lines.

It's good that they updated their gym equipment, but running on a treadmill is so boring. I prefer looking at the ocean. I've seen beautiful sunrises, sunsets, whales, orcas, seals, glaciers, fjords, bald eagles, dolphins, a statue of liberty, skylines, cities, and towns... a lot of interesting stuff running around deck 4. It's probably not such a big deal on the short cruises, but if they ever use this ship for longer cruises it will be. Both transatlantics I've taken the running track has been busy from sunrise to sunset. A lot of older folks like to walk... so it's not just for runners.

Maybe they figured the runners would be too tired to run after the marathon....LOL.

Treadmill running is awfffffffffffffffffffful. I'd rather just not run at all. (This coming from someone stuck on a treadmill from October-April due to snow and -40 weather)
