runDisney Announcement

Can I ask a stupid question...What exactly is Marathon Monday? I don't guess I've been around long enough to know what it is!:confused3

It was a promotion that ended prior to this year's marathon. Anyone that ran the full got a one-day, one-park ticket only valid the day after the marathon (Monday).

To be 100% clear, Marathon Monday was a gimmick offered last year to entice folks to enter the marathon. It was a once and done thing as I do not think Disney actually saw any increase in revenue as a result

I stand corrected.

I stand corrected.

I didn't mean to throw stones.... Just wanted the casual reader to not think the MM was a long standing benefit that is being yanked

Guess we are 24 hours from knowing. I am sure that I can wait

I can only imagine what they are planning, I'm thinking that they will say that you can now have photo ops with characters for a small fee. Oh and the water tables will be removed and vending machines will take their place.

Dave:hippie:

Not to give Disney any ideas, but I probably would have paid money at DL for a cold water bottle. During training, I would freeze half a water bottle then finish it off with water. The weather at Disneyland was warm enough that a cold drink, as opposed to room temp, would have been nice.

Yep. Less than 24 hours before Disney announces the Rapunzel Run, a half marathon at Disneyland for women, by women. Men who attempt to run or bandit the course will be "roped" by security (the ropes will, of course, look like Rapunzel's hair from the movie).

I admit, I mean it as a joke, but it sounds too much like a prediction to be really all that funny.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I think the announcement is one where we learn that we have 9 puzzle clues to presented once every few days noting the details of the race......

Oh wait, didn't we just do that?

On the first day of quizzing, runDisney gave to me - a clue undeciphered by me.

On the second day of quizzing, runDisney gave to me - two pointless pictures, and a clue undeciphered by me.

On the third day of quizzing, runDisney gave to me - three useless titles, two pointless pictures, and a clue undeciphered by me. . . .

(I bet I could go through all twelve, with a bit of caffeinated alcohol.)

I think there is a good chance we have the Tower of Terror 13K coming back. The disney blog post for today mentions a "Towering" surprise from runDisney. I am kind of hoping the date wont be in October though. I am planning to do Wine and Dine again, plus I was thinking I would run the mini marathon in Myrtle Beach, both of which are in October too. Guess we will see tomorrow.

A ‘Towering’ New Race Through the Night at Walt Disney World Resort

posted on December 21st, 2011 by Darrell Fry, Sports Media Director, Walt Disney World

If you’re a runner, Christmas is coming a little early for you thanks to our runDisney team, which thinks it’s found the perfect gift for you. Open it up by clicking on this video.

Yep, we’re reviving the popular The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror theme and creating The Twilight Tower of Terror 10-Miler Weekend at Walt Disney World Resort in 2012. If you like to have a scary good time when you run, this race will be the perfect weekend much like The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 13K race we last staged at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2009.

This new race, scheduled for Sept. 29, will follow a similar course – through the set of “Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show’’ and past Mickey’s Sorcerer’s Hat – but features runDisney’s first-ever 10-mile distance that finishes, appropriately enough, near The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction. If you “survive’’ the experience, you’ll be treated to a shiny new medal and a rocking post-race party with your family and friends that features live music, Disney characters and exclusive access to attractions such as Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, Star Tours, Toy Story Mania! and, of course, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

The new The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror race is our sixth signature runDisney event and the second nighttime race at Walt Disney World Resort. To make room for it, though, we’re shifting our other nighttime event, the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend, to Nov. 9-10 during the final weekend of the popular Epcot International Food & Wine Festival.

Like all runDisney events, the race weekend will feature a variety of events, including a 5K, kid’s races and a Health & Fitness Expo all at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort.

Mark your calendars now for Feb. 14. That’s the day you can start registering for the new race at runDisney.com. Should be a “terror-ably’’ good time.

Glad I wasn't too excited about this announcement since it will most likely not be doable for me next year. I feel bad for those planning on wine and dine that had their weekend changed though!

Winner.
I like the Myrtle Beach race. Its not a Disney or Rock and Roll Series race, but the course is flat and the medal is nice.

If I was local, I might be a little more excited about this. But a 10 miler at the end of Sept in the height of fall marathon training? meh.

Wonder what they will do about wine and dine now?

They said they are moving it to the last weekend of Food and Wine Fest (November 9th)
