Run Over BY ECV

I hope an ecv never runs over your foot. When it does I hope you post how pleasant an experience it was for you, and that as accidents happen you really don't care how sore you feel.

As a matter of fact, I have gottenmy feet run over by an ECV a few times. My ex-gf was a bit of a spaz with the thing. I wrapped my foot and got on with my life.
Accidents do happen, I'm generally bruised up, so it doesn't bother me in the least when I get hurt. :confused3

I put $100 on +4

As to the OP, not saying that this applies to your situation, but why is it that we only hear when somebody gets "run over" with a wheelchair/stroller? You never see the posts saying, "man I was so wrapped up in what I was doing that I didn't pay attention to the people around me and fell onto somebody's small child in a stroller". Everyone automatically blames the person in the wheelchair or stroller, never themselves for getting run into or over. Why is that? OP, sorry to hear that you have a nasty bruise and am glad to hear that the person in the ECV apologized to you. How about we ban people not in wheelchairs or those not pushing strollers from stores in Disney? Sounds fair, then we won't have to worry about being blamed for running people over all the time.

I try to be proactive in the world I live in. Be it an accident or someone not paying attention. We aren't going to ban people from the store anymore then you can ban someone who doesn't pay attention on the road in their car (outside of extreme cases).

Does that mean we don't have a responsibility to aware of these things ourselves?

When I'm driving I look out for other people. If I can prevent a problem I do so. Be proactive and try to avoid getting hit when they might not see you.

Be aware of your surroundings.

I don't see how anyone can say that the person on the ECV should have seen me all the while claiming to not see them.

I don't believe an accident is something to use as a way to hinders peoples right to enjoy ALL of WDW in whatever capacity they are able to do so in.

Having said that I believe we should ban threads about ECV's and peoples hating of them. :thumbsup2 :lmao: :rotfl2: <--- This is a joke BTW.

I do wish people would be more aware - when i use my chair i have been sat on, squished, moved (someone apparently thought i was an inconveniently placed shopping cart), had ashes dropped on me, had someone stop short in front of me, etc... and i cannot stop my chair on a dime, no matter how hard I try.

to the OP, I am glad the ECV user apologized. accidents do happen, and I wish disney would make their aisles bigger. maneuvering a chair/ecv is hard, and it is very difficult to make those tight turns

[RAISES HANDS] I do this all the time!! I am so clumsy!! (Seriously, my BF says I shouldn't be allowed in certain stores:rotfl2: ) Next time I turn and walk into a stroller I am going to blame the parent. They shouldn't have put it next to me cause it's all about ME (obviously I'm kidding). Life happens.

And I'm being daring I say +6 popcorn::

Welp, if you don't think the ECV's belong in the store...offer to be their personal shopper. Situation resolved. :rolleyes1

I don't so much mind that you feel the need to post that you were run over in a tight space by an ECV. My problem is that there have been a million plus threads started about this, and you didn't search for one to add to. It seems that everyone is just starting their own threads for everything now, instead of putting a bit of effort into seeing if they can just add to an existing thread.

Ah, I feel better now.

coops - they couldnt add to an old one, because they have all been locked. for good reason!! this one will get locked before long too. although I agree that the search method may need to be used a bit more often

I thought about that in hindsight. Kind of ridiculous that we can't have a civilized discussion about handicapped folks without having to eventually lock up a thread. I can't even imagine if we went down other roads of things people can't change.....:scared:

I actually enjoy discussions and debates about disability, providing everyone is willing to keep an open mind. I hope every time that people are willing just to talk, but people always start insulting one another. Once I think I even got someone to reconsider their position about disability. I am not trying to make everyone think like me, but I am always pleased when someone actually listens to what I have to say and considers it. I always try to do the same for others.

I'm suprised it's got this far, considering previous threads.
Move along please make room for another onepopcorn::

What? There's a search function? ;)

(Just trying to add to this thread so I can help those with high wagers beat the spread.)

I wasn't going to post in this thread until I saw that.

Do you think the rights of the few should outweigh the rights of the many? I don't.

And BTW, I don't think scooters or wheelchairs should be banned from stores (the very idea is ludicrous), and I DO think that all stores should be required to make their aisles wide enough for a basic scooter to navigate - particularly at WDW, where there seem to be a higher-than-average concentration of folks on scooters.

No I don't think that, I think that everyone including the disabled have the same rights, and so it seems does the United States Govenment according to the ADA.
And I believe I said exactly what you just said in my post.pirate:

All has been said about 1 million time. All I want to say to those complaining about an ECV, wheelchair whatever;

One day in your life there might just come a time you'll need that ECV. I'm putting my money on the lightbulb called "I never realized that when I had an able body" going on at that moment. Or worse; if you ever get kids, your kid gets hurt and needs a wheelchair permanently (and might use an ecv as a great way of getting around independantly). Just think about it; you finally see your teenager daughter smile again, you see her become her cheeky selve again because of the independance the ecv offers her. She just loves shopping as any teenage girl does and -off course- HATES to have her parents push her around a store and wants nothing more than to be able to shop without them. With the ECV she finally can at Disney. She go into a WDW-store and accidently run into this big guy. They apologize, but the guy isn't having it. He's on his way to disney management to demant the ecv's to be banned. Think about what that would do with your "little" girl or boy. How unwelcome they would feel. How inferiar they might feel. How condemned they'll feel.

*feel free to change the ecv/wdw-store into anything that bugs you and you want banned*

*I don't like popcorn, have we got any chocolate?*

I am really sorry your foot was hurt. Please people be more careful where you walk and those around you. I can't tell you how many time I have got hurt on my ecv by people running over me even if I have completely stoped. It is hard to get around in a large crowd. I have read some of these posts before and they really scare me as the way some people are so intolerant to the people (like me) who have to ride an ecv to enjoy the parks and life. There are times it really make me feel bad that I am causeing others so much pain because they have to watch where they are going. I know you are not use to looking down but please help me out and look out, you know ecv's are in the park so look out for us as much as we have to look out for walking people. Be kind to all and help each other out noone runs over you just because you can. Let everyone have a good time and be carefull of all. :moped: Again I am glad your foot is ok and I am sure the person who ran over it feels worse then you do.

The ADA compliance for accessible aisles is 33 inches. In case you're wondering that's my size 8 body with one arm extended out fully. It's not nearly as big as it seems. Needless to say, that's usually too narrow to get an ECV or for that matter a double stroller through. I set floors for a living, that measurment is permantenlty ingrained into my head. If Disney really wanted to solve the issue, they'd either make wider aisles (which from a merchandising standpoint would be a disaster, wider aisles means less fixturing, less fixturing means less merchandise out, you get the picture) or rent out smaller EVCs--those tings must be at least 40 inches across, no wonder why they can't fit comfortably down an aisle!

I'll put $50 on +7. popcorn::

My ECV is 24" wide and there are still aisles that I can't get through in every store I enter. and I am good at manuvering after several years doing it.
