Just returned from MGM where an ECV run over my foot at the Celebrity 5 & 10 store on Hollywood Blvd. While the woman in the ECV was very apologetic, nevertheless I am lucky she didn't break my foot, but still ended up with a nasty bruise.
My point here is that in stores where there is not much space to move around and the aisles are narrow ECV'S should not be allowed in. I realize that this would be an obvious invonveniece to those on an ECV, but the safety of the majority of people should take precedence over the needs of a limited few. If not it will only be a matter of time before someone does get a broken limb from one of these vehicles.

It's a good thing this woman did not break you're foot and that she did appologize, because when I have read other stories like this the people on the ECV thought the people they ran over got in their way and told them that.

I agree that ECVs are dangerous in the stores as they are now. however, it would be illegal to bar people using scooters from the stores, because some people cannot get around without them. how about instead, we make the aisles in the stores bigger?

Oh yes very interesting first of all it would be illegal to ban the ECVs from the store, the answer is for the stores to follow aisle spacing rules which they do not.
as for running over people, I cannot count the number of times people will turn around and walk right into or in front of me on my scooter, scooters do not stop instantly no matter how good your reflexes.
It is true that at Disney you have a lot of people on them that have never been on one before and that is unfortunate, but there is nothing one can do about that.
I can assure you that there are an equal number of these accidents that are completely the fault of the non rider as there are where the rider is at fault.
And NO the rights of the many do not outweigh the rights of the few.

You said it the best..........:thumbsup2 How can anyone even say to ban them from the store....:confused3

The person with the ECV hit you by accident, accidents happen. An accident is not a reason to ban ECVs from stores (nor is it legal to do so).

I'm tempted to keep typing, but I'll stop and agree with Coopsmum77. :)

I'm also putting my money on +3

Honestly, I think there should be some way to say that disney rented ECV's can not enter stores. If the person didn't need to ECV to get to the entrance to rent it - they can walk through the store! That would at least cut down on the number of those things in tight spaces.

IMHO the only things with wheels on them that should be in the stores and restaurants are wheelchairs (manual and auto) and strollers for small children with disabilities (their form of a wheelchair). NO strollers, ECV's or wheely shoes

Go ahead and flame away

I hope an ecv never runs over your foot. When it does I hope you post how pleasant an experience it was for you, and that as accidents happen you really don't care how sore you feel.

Ready? I've run over my OWN foot while trying to maneuver an ECV. Yes, it hurt. No, nothing broke - and my bones are LOT more brittle than yours. Yes it was an accident. Really. That's what accidents are. Yes, I swore at the idiot (aka, me). No, I did not come to a public forum and complain. Are you sure you didn't place your foot under her ECV? You know, like the "You got peanut butter on my chocolate!"/"You got chocolate in my peanut butter!" ad campaign.

I’ll wager $10 on 68 posts (4.5 pages) before the thread gets locked… and could somebody please pass the popcorn::?

Ok, I will! Are you a doctor, or are you just playing one? :confused3

It is illegal to ban ECVs, which might be just a small problem in what you are suggesting. And even if they could ban ECVs, why stop there? Why not ban strollers? After all, people get hit with them all the time. And why not ban people who are big? After all they spend their time banging in to you, they don't have a need to shop!! Shopping is just for the skinny, or the totally mobile people, not anyone who can't walk on their own two feet!

Hopefully you get that I am being totally sarcastic. It is disgusting that anyone would even suggest that people and their ECVs be banned from a store. Some people just need to get over themselves!

I wasn't going to post in this thread until I saw that.

Do you think the rights of the few should outweigh the rights of the many? I don't.

And BTW, I don't think scooters or wheelchairs should be banned from stores (the very idea is ludicrous), and I DO think that all stores should be required to make their aisles wide enough for a basic scooter to navigate - particularly at WDW, where there seem to be a higher-than-average concentration of folks on scooters.
