Run Over by a Rascal

got any stories where people step out in front of a scooter not giving the driver time to stop or they stop suddenly in front of you turn to go back and fall on you punch you in the face while pointing where they want to go, one other thing they wont ban them where will all these marathon/power walkers lean on when they are watching a parade have there kids climb on to get a better view all the above will have been witnessed by most ecv/scooter/pc users

:lmao: Have you experienced this before? Someone punched in the face? Pointing which way to go?

yes. this has happened to me. they didn't punch so much as hit, but they were gesturing and not thinking and hit me.

people have also leaned on my chair (not people i knew) or psuhed me out of their way when i was in a store aisle, as if i was an inconveniently placed shopping cart.

people dont talk to you, they talk to the people with you, saying things like "what does she want to eat?" as if I cannot hear.

and you get to stare at people's butts the whole time! its just lovely.

actually i find people touching my chair even more of a problem. if i ask you to push me, then that is fine, but PLEASE do not touch my chair. my chair is part of my body (think of it as my version of legs). if you walked up behind a random 22 yr old girl and grabbed her behind and started pushing her along, you would at the very least be thrown out of the parks. you may even be arrested. if you touch my chair, that is just as much an intrusion. also, you can hurt me (my hands could get caught in the wheels) or you can run me into other people, and that starts the whole problem that began this thread!

i am only 5 ft standing, so i am used to being shorter than other people

I'll quote my DH on this one he says "I would gladly have a bruised, cut or even broken leg that a lifetime in a wheelchair". Wheelchairs are heavy hard to push and even harder to stop. No-one runs into someone on purpose and if your foot is hurt that bad hire a chair for a couple of days, it might just make you a better person.:wizard:

i knew you were kidding on that last one, but it gave me the opening to point out to people who may see a chair as a "cool toy" or a way to avoid walking in the parks that wheelchairs (while they CAN be cool) are not something to desire....

That is not a bad suggestion, but I did not retaliate on the person that did it to me because I knew it was an accident. I would hate to be put into the not needing a ECV category and possibly take it from someone who does need it.

Yes that drives me mad DH askes a question and they direct the answer at me. I just act dumb or on bad days I will point out that I didn't ask the question and could they try talking to the person in the chair. I've heard him shout "Hello hello I'm down here", at shop counters when they can't see him.:confused3

i dont use a chair full time (although that day is coming) and i confuse people when somedays i use a chair and others i manage to limp in with just my cane... either way, if you use a mobility device, no one talks to you...

that is one reason i want a cool chair - they cant pretend to ignore you if you have a mickey mouse chair in disney!

I would like to declare that I like to rent an ECV and a stroller. I like to tie the stroller to the back of the ECV and go full tilt down Main Street. If I miss people with the scooter, then the stroller is almost sure to get them. If that doesn't work, I like to get off the ECV and run at top speed with a stick and beat the people I missed.

:rotfl2:

I guess we need to start having a little more compassion considering that many of the folks that will be heading to Disney are people who have served our country in the Iraq War... many of which who will unfortunately need ECVs.

Today's really been a big eye opening day for me on many levels. Thanks so much to everyone.

:rotfl: I can just picture that happening!:lmao:

And if you have company along I bet they are on heelies too!;)

This is my first post on here and it is not the happiest. I was wondering if anyone else has been run over by a motorized scooter before? Is it possible to file a complaint with guest services or somewhere. I notice that these things are not Disney owned, but are everywhere! I understand the need for some people to have them due to disabilities, weight, etc, but they should include a driving course or some sort of training wheels for people that do not know how to operate them. They are everywhere now! How much does Disney get of rental money, and what is wrong with wheelchairs that you push?

My favorite part is when they hit the gas and ran over the ankle thinking they were hitting the brake. If you look at the front of them, it is built like a cattle truck for pushing herds, and that is exactly what they do with them. All they could do was smile at their innocent grandmother in her chair and you should have gotten out of the way! It is truly a nightmare at certain times trying to navigate with those things I am sure, but come on!

Lebowski
Lebowski, I feel your pain but I think the stroller fiends and ECV madmen will be chasing you(trying to run you over actually) with pitchforks and torches any moment now!!! Many topics here bring out such rabid responses such as....

Seating on buses
Strollers
Improper use of refillable mugs
The badly behaved spawn of other guests
Brazilian tour groups
Cheerleading groups

The day that I see a post that addresses all of these topics will be an impressive(and highly amusing) one indeed!:drinking1 I'll owe that person a beer!

all i wanted was an apology not an attitude. im sure little lebowski wasnt insulting anyone and if you feel insulted you need to lighten up. there really is no need to defend yourself on this topic it was just a normal question that didnt need an answer. and if there are any veterans and i mean "any veterans" that need help i'll carry you on my own back. its the least i can do for fellow brothers.

Yes, I was at AK after exiting FOTLK. She ran right into my Achilles from behind with the thing and knocked me down, but thankfully I wasn't seriously hurt. I just limped around for half the day.

And to top it all off I was majorly chewed out by the driver AND her family that I should have more respect for people with disabilities and should look where I was going. How dare I get her into such a traumatic situation. I didn't even get a "Sorry", or "Are you okay?" Funny - none of them were hurt. And contrary to what my kids think, I don't have eyes in the back of my head.

Now, I just make sure that I stay as far away from ECVs as possible.

I haven't read the whole thread (and don't plan to, either), but I'm not coming down on people who ride ECVs, but if you do happen to be a driver and you hit someone, an inquiry as to whether the person is hurt and/or an apology goes a long way.

amen!

I really don't like people touching my son's chair. It drives me nuts. We were at a parade once in WDW and a woman actually hung her shopping bags on the handles of my son's chair. I called her on it and she said,"it's only for a few minutes so I can hold my daughter up so she can see." If she would have asked.... I wouldn't have minded so much. But it just seemed so odd.

My son thought it was unfair that he kept getting "out" at dodge ball everytime someone hit his chair. I asked him if someone would be "out" if he hit their shoe.... he said "yes". So I told him it was only fair that he was "out" when they hit his chair. He still doesn't like the rules... but he gets it.
