I'm sure Disney will never get rid of the ECV's but I do think they should make them a bit less powerful.
Disney's are already as low-powered as possible. The only way to make them slower would be to order an entirely new, specially-designed stock - which I don't think they're even considering at this time.

I was not referring to monetary remorse!!
Oh, no, I knew that - but still, NEVER in any situation admit fault! ;)

The whole issue boils donw to a little consideration from both sides of the arguement and a little more understanding.
:thumbsup2!

hehe, yeah. why do people think it is ok to touch someone else's wheelchair or ECV. my chair is an extension of my body. NO TOUCHY! i promise not to grab your behind, if you promise not to touch my chair
Oh, that's great! You need to make that into a sign and hang on the back of your chair!

And to top it all off I was majorly chewed out by the driver AND her family that I should have more respect for people with disabilities and should look where I was going. How dare I get her into such a traumatic situation. I didn't even get a "Sorry", or "Are you okay?" Funny - none of them were hurt. And contrary to what my kids think, I don't have eyes in the back of my head.
While she was wrong to berate you over her baseless perception of your attitude toward the disabled - because I'm POSITIVE she's wrong - is it possible you stepped into her path without realizing it? Maybe stepped sideways to get around somebody walking slower than you? Please note, this is NOT an accusation, it's simply a question.

DH askes a question and they direct the answer at me.
Now what if you "ignore" the answer and DH pauses and asks the same question (verbatim) again? And repeat the cycle until the "they" do it right, speaking to DH.

people have also leaned on my chair (not people i knew) or psuhed me out of their way when i was in a store aisle, as if i was an inconveniently placed shopping cart.
You need a bodyguard to educate them.

people dont talk to you, they talk to the people with you, saying things like "what does she want to eat?" as if I cannot hear.
I think I saw this response first in an Ann Landers newspaper column: the person with you should say, "Why don't you ask her?"

and you get to stare at people's butts the whole time! its just lovely.
Sorry, can't help you on this. I just read a post about someone extolling the virtues of these "seat-cane" three legged combos but it didn't go so far as saying they are useless at parades because for some unknown reasons people always give the parade a standing ovation.
She ran right into my Achilles from behind with the thing and knocked me down, but thankfully I wasn't seriously hurt. I just limped around for half the day.

RE: your having more respect for people with disabilities, definitely not for them. Too bad you did not have your family and brother in law there to face up to them. Going to Disney with a large group does have its advantages.
My son thought it was unfair that he kept getting "out" at dodge ball everytime someone hit his chair. I asked him if someone would be "out" if he hit their shoe.... he said "yes". So I told him it was only fair that he was "out" when they hit his chair. He still doesn't like the rules... but he gets it.
If your son ends up on the sidelines for much longer periods of time than the other kids, then the rules should be fine tuned. In case you didn't know, the fine tuning process is known as handicapping. Although not meant for indiscriminate use in competitions, it is definitely appropriate in gym classes.

Lebowski, I feel your pain but I think the stroller fiends and ECV madmen will be chasing you(trying to run you over actually) with pitchforks and torches any moment now!!! Many topics here bring out such rabid responses such as....

Seating on buses
Strollers
Improper use of refillable mugs
The badly behaved spawn of other guests
Brazilian tour groups
Cheerleading groups

The day that I see a post that addresses all of these topics will be an impressive(and highly amusing) one indeed!:drinking1 I'll owe that person a beer!

popcorn::

While we were at WDW in Jan 07' a large group of cheerleaders half on ECV's the other being pulled in strollers behind the ECV's were doing donuts down main street. They were pouring soda on each other from their resort mugs and I am surprised people were not hurt due to ECV's shorting out from soda. We gathered our group and hightailed it to the bus stop. The buses were running not as frequently due to the fact that it was low season and when one pulled up and the doors opened and no one got off we wondered what was up. We stepped on the bus only to see the largest tour of Brazilians chanting and clapping in their seats half of them making out. No one would scoot over to allow us to sit and my friend almost lost an eye from one of those flags being waved in our faces. SHEESH You would think Disney would do something about it, but they spend money too! :rolleyes1

You left before the real fun began. As you headed to the bus the cheerleaders tied ropes to the back of the strollers behind the ECV. Eventually they had four girls on heelies behind the strollers and soon they decided to form one of those pyramids. So, as the pyramid was rolling down MainStreet the front ECV ran into one of the chanting Brazillians who dumped the entire soda from the refillable resort mug on the driver. The driver suddenly stopped and down came the pyramid. Believe it or not, the cheerleader from the top of the pyramid landed right on me. :headache:

My attorney says I should file suit against all parties involved, as well as Disney and the three kids that stole my spot for the parade when I was carted out. :rolleyes1

Don't forget pool hopping and bringing George Foreman grills to cook your own burgers!!!

kaytieeldr you go alone so no one could help you get around in a non powered chair?

On the Keys to the Kingdom tour the tour guide was talking about guest safety and how it was Disneys number #1 thing. I told her she had to be joking! They look out for your money and thats it, Not 2 minutes before we say the "accident" where a lady plowed into about 10 to 15 people running wide open was a wonder no one was serious hurt. Did our tour guide say anything NO JUST TURNED AWAY and on we went.

Safety is a big concern.

Too much to clean this up.

Can we all agree to disagree without flinging insults at one another? Yeesh!
