Run Now! It’s Wine 0’Clock in WDW…Cupcakes Gone W&D16

It’s 5 O’clock Friday
(Only 37 More Friday’s)
at Artist Point in the Wilderness Lodge

In order to pass the time away, instead of Cupcake Friday’s we are going to take a look at cocktails around the world…since we are partly fueled by cocktails. Maybe we can find them a little more readily then the cupcake disappointment we experienced on our PHM Cupcake Crawl!

Today is going to finish up our monorail loop (okay monorail plus a boat) in search of cocktails to re-hydrate ourselves after 16.2 miles of RunDisey fun. Where are we headed, to the Wilderness Lodge! I have to admit that I have not spent a lot of time at WL. It is certainly a beautiful resort, but it is just is not a place that I plan on staying at. Probably because I have stayed at the Lodge in Yellowstone and we have a cabin in the woods so the theming is just not appealing to me…I like something a little different than what I am used to. But with the being said I do appreciate the rugged beauty and would someday I would like to dine at Artist Point.

So bartender…

Pour me somethin' tall an' strong,
Make it a Northern Exposure
It's only half-past twelve but I don't care.
It's five o'clock somewhere!

Northern Exposure
Ketel One Vodka, Amaretto, Kahlúa, and Cream with a splash of Coca-Cola®

This totally sounds like my one of my favorite cocktails, a Colorado Bulldog. I am curious about the amaretto in it (my favorite liquor), so much so that I may just have to take a boat and try this one out!

What are you having?

Whet Your Appetite Wednesday...we were originally booked for HDDR in December, & decided to do Trails End instead (which we really ended up enjoying). I would still like to do HDDR at some point though. We have done Spirit of Aloha twice, back in 2008 & 2012. We enjoyed it in 2008, but by 2012 the menu had changed & we didn't care for it.

As far as a bucket list dining location, V&A. I would love to do that with my husband in the next few years.

*************
Glad to have that 1 night before we move to BCV booked. Originally my thought process on FQ was that I would be arriving earlier than everyone else & it was a small resort for me to maneuver alone & I could grab a beignet, but now I am even more excited bc we will be arriving early & have a good portion of a Disney day to play!

*************
Five O Clock Friday...perhaps Raspberry Rapids.

Pass me the Coffee House Espresso Martini AKA boozy coffee :lovestruc!!! Tammie, I am looking at flights now and OOOH how I wish I can leave early. I am trying to navigate an extra day. My cousin definitely has to be back on Monday evening, but I am seeing if my sis can pinch hit with me. The ultimate problem is that my kids have a massive schedule and hubby is like uh-uh:rolleyes:! Then kids will spend the whole Friday and Monday ringing my phone off the hook asking me "How do I......?" So if dear sister love can come in I just may be able to squeeze an extra day.

Can I have my Coffee House Espresso AKA boozy coffee NOW and not 37 fridays from now!

I am soooo far behind. Work has been cray-cray.

I can't believe how much y'all have planned... I'm still in the "I'm going and I have an annual pass"..and that's about it. Hahahaha..... Remind me to make sure I'm caught up when meet ups start getting planned.........................

Yay for having the first night hotel and flights booked - it's always nice to have things like that taken care of!

I've never been to Wilderness Lodge ... the pictures look nice, but I'm not a nature person, so it doesn't appeal to me at all.
The drinks do look interesting, though, so I guess it might be worth a visit. Not sure what I'd get ... that would probably be a game day decision.

Crazy how it all worked out and basically means one more Disney day. I just have to figure out how to tell my principal I am taking 5 days...:crazy2::crazy2::crazy2::crazy2::crazy2:

That totally looks yummy too!

BOOZEY COFFEE IS HOW YOU LIKE IT! Not much of a coffee person...but I do enjoy tirimsu and a little khula. Which nether is spelled correctly.

I am hoping that you can navigate an early arrival and spend the night with us!

I'm going to have a Mickey pretzel because you know no alcohol. Maybe an iced tea to go along with it.

I am getting myself a Micky Pretzel too!

I would go for some Pinot Noir from the Northwest Region. I do love my wine!

I need to become better with wine...I like my moscato and ice wines...yep I like them sweet.

I totally understand the cray-cray part. We really dont have a lot planned...just resorts and departure flights. It is so hard to plan anything until F&W schedules/events are released. We have been talking about wanting to do one of the special dining events as a treat/celebration. Plus I am praying for some good Eat to the Beat acts...maybe Air Supply will play later this year! :lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc As far as meet ups, I know we have to do Eat & Drink Around the world on Sunday afternoon/night. That is as far as we got. And the traditional post 5K at Kona.

Crazy about the arrival flights booked...I never book that early...but since it is SW I know I can price/point watch if I find something lower. Wilderness Lodge is pretty and is good for a look around...I like game day decisions...I am trying harder to have my Disney trips like that. We have been looking at ADRs and realizing with this trip we wont have a lot, plus I rarely do quick service and this trip is shaping up to have several.

After 5k meet up at Kona check check it is on my schedule after my little problem :headache:! The verdict is still out for the special dining Sunday to celebrate Wine and Dine finish, right?

Yay for Kona

Sunday I think we have decided to be boozy and gluttoness...doing a Around the World Booze & Food Crawl until we either pass out, explode, get kicked out or shut down Epcot. I think the plan was to sleep in as much as possible after the night of running and try to be at International Gateway about the time World Showcase opens...

We are on pins and needles waiting to schedule either a fancy dinner or a F&W event until the schedules come out...sigh!

Food & Wine Festival Event List should come out in July!

I will be all over that :)

DH and I are trying to plan our flights, but we should arrive on Thursday. I am still waiting to hear if my BF and her husband are running. If they aren't, we have to figure something out for my daughter. She won't do a Disney babysitter so we would have to take someone from our family which would mean we would have to change room size. I am getting anxious for advance registration day!

I really want to have a meet up with you! Thursday is looking like a day a great arrival day for a lot of us! WAHOO! I hope everything works out with DD...I can understand Disney sitters are strangers, I am sure that they are great but it is hard leaving your child with someone who you dont know and they dont know! Sending pixie dust your way for those little details to work out!

Whet Your Appetite Wednesday:
Pre Planning Our Eat Crawl Around the World
Mexico

Trying to find ways to pass the next 245 days, so Wednesday is going to be officially called “Whet Your Appetite Wednesday” because Cupcakes like eating and most of this trip will be focused around Food & Wine (and yes running Wine & Dine). Since the menus for F&W are not available for 2016 until the midSpring and we have pretty much covered favorite dining experiences and foods from around WDW…let’s start pre-planning some our Post Race Sunday Eat & Drink Crawl Around the World (inform, rules and requirements later) by circling the World Showcase in search of the best snacks around.

First stop….a little South of the border and a personal favorite for me. Although, I must admit that while at WDW I do not care much for the flavors of Mexico a la Disney. When you have the real thing, it is pretty hard to find something that you have not tried or lives up to your standards…yes, I am a Mexican food snob! I am not a fan of Tex-Mex, but prefer the more green chile influences from New Mexico and Colorado. But, I know one of the rules will be that you have to eat something at each country and F&W Booth…so I am sure that I can find something that might interest me. Let’s see…

Oh I love a Churro!

churro.jpg

Or maybe the Empanadas con queso (fried tortillas and cheese…match made in heaven)!

Empanadas.jpg

Now if we were doing a TS at La Hacienda, I think I might just have tried the Helado de Maiz…

Corn-Ice-Cream-La-Hacienda-de-San-Angel-600x400.jpg

Corn ice cream with candied popcorn.

Last year at F&W these were the selections

http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/mexico-2015-epcot-food-and-wine-festival/

To eat:

  • Tacos de camarón: Battered shrimp, pico de gallo, pickled onions, and chipotle mayonnaise
  • Chilaquiles de pollo: Corn chips layered with seasoned chicken, queso fresco, sour cream and cilantro
  • Pastel de elote con queso: sweet corn cheesecake
I have to say that the sweet corn cheesecake would have been on my radar last year.

What looks good for a snack for you? Sweet or savory it does not matter.

You're making me hungry!

I know in the past I've just gotten some nacho at the quick service while waiting for illuminations but that's about it in Mexico. Churros are good too.

In world showcase I like stopping in France for some bread or sorbet.

Being a vegetarian who occasionally eats fish somewhat limits choices, but that battered shrimp and the corn ice cream have me intrigued.

I am getting nervous overall. Pre-registration is next week on Tuesday and there is all this talk on FB about how quickly those bibs go. My plan is to have DH and I both have the link (if I can find it) open on our phones and ready to go. Anyone who has done this in the past have any tips? If one of us can't get the registration I will try when it opens to the public, but I am also totally ok with doing a charity run.

Patience Ryan we will get to France....but we have lots of stops before there!

Learned something new about you Jennifer...did not know you were a vegetarian! That corn ice cream totally has me intrigued too!

I am super nervous about registration...I am leaving it in Debra's hands because I am not sure where I am going to be or if I will have internet access on the 15th. Going with the kids Boy/Girl scout dance group spring tour to California. And no we are not going to Disneyland...:scared1::scared1::scared1:...I am going on spring break tour with a bunch of Disney hating teenage boys. Oh joy!

I am wondering how fast this will sell out...with the past 2 years of snafu's with the weather, the price cost and the uncertainty of the course I am hoping that many people will decide to hold off on this race. Someone told me that there are several other current Disney races that are not even sold out yet...plus I believe it is Boston Marathon or some other big marathon that weekend...???? I think I remember that chatter.

I checked my Active account the other day to make sure everything was current and getting Debra my information. She will get to register next week with her AP.

Opinions on the Mexico Booth:

While I was eating this dish, my husband was to walk to Mexico to get one dish, imagine my surprise when he came back with a tequila flight in addition to the food! My husband doesn't drink tequila so I knew he was trying to get me buzzed ;) We had decided on the Chilaquilas as I had the Tacos de Camaron Friday Night for dinner and we figured this would be good. It wasn't. It was really mushy and just one note to its flavor. The tequila was alright but I haven't a clue what brand it was.

We toasted & headed towards more food options. Our next booth stop was Mexico

Shrimp Taco & Sangria

VVzEqri.jpg

I’m totally tasting my way around the world

I love that shrimp taco every year! My husband stole some of it which is fine as there would be more food ahead. The Sangria was ok - drank a bit thicker than normal for sangria.

Mmmmm... Mexican food is my favorite! Not Epcot Mexican food- but Mexican food in general! :)

The Disney races don't seem to be selling out as fast this year compared to previous years.. even the challenges... so hopefully we'll all be just fine. I'm a wee bit ticked because I have the AP but it's not activated yet (activating in 14 days) and they tell me I can't activate before to register for early W&D. Boo. :(

I realized the same thing in terms of the AP. I will be activating mine on Saturday though so I should have 2 options for registration. I will just have to find the AP link for the runDisney stuff. I am hoping that this race follow suit with the others.

The NYC marathon is the same weekend as W&D so you are right, Tammie, that may help with registration.
