Run in with wasps last night

Last night I went to mow my lawn. It was well overdue for a mowing, and hadn't been mowed since the 4th of July (but we hadn't gotten really any rain until last week, so it just started getting bad). I just started out, went past my garage. Something was flying by my head, didn't think twice about it. Went around the yard and past the garage again. This time I was attacked! I was stung in the eyelid and twice on the forehead before I could get away. After freaking for a bit, and holding a washcloth on my eye, I went back out to the area. I could not see anything. Couldn't tell if I hit a nest on the ground, or if they are living in my gargage. All I can say was it was NOT fun. My dad came over and sparyed a couple of areas last night, but he didn't see anything, either. Tonight, I will be attempting to mow again, because if I don't get it done soon, I will probably need a hay bailer to cut it down. Wish me luck!

Ouch!! I've never been stung on the eyelid.

I was stung several times on the leg, back and arm last week. DH said there was a small group of them living in the grass near the ground by my raised flower bed. I walked past and was too close to their territory, I guess.

I would not even go back in the yard, let alone attempt to mow the grass. There was a wasp flying by my groceries in the cart at the store yesterday, and I almost ran in my car to wait for it to fly away. I hate those things! Good luck.

Youch! Can't even imagine being stung on the eyelid, little own twice. I would put on the proper gear before attempting again!

Wow. I hope you are feeling better today. I ran over a wasp nest with the lawn mower a couple years ago with similar results to you. It took a couple of months for the bites on my ankles and legs to heal. I cannot imagine being stung anywhere on the face. I hope you (or someone) can find there nest and destroy it. Above all, be careful.

OMG! I am so FREAKIN SCARED of wasps! When I was little a wasp nest fell down my shirt. To make matters worse my shirt was tucked in. I hope your alright and that you don't get stung again. I knew I shouldn't have opened this thread! But I just couldn't help it! :teeth: I'm gonna be so paranoid all day! :p

OMG! Just reading this made me gasp for air! I would completely freak out if this ever happened. I can't stand those little things.

Usually bees/wasps don't bother me a whole lot. The last time I was stung was when I was at Disney in December 2002. Bee was buzzing around a lady, and she was waving her arms frantically as I walked by, and it ended up getting me.

I am just glad that I found it before one of the kids stepped in it, or something.

I have those wasp traps hanging everywhere outside. If your ever in Portland OR and you see a grown woman running and screaming like a mad woman it's me running from a little bee. I go insane when one comes near me! I could win a gold medal in track I run so fast! :rotfl:
