Rumors that Disney is in negotiations to sell Star Wars back to George Lucas!

For example the character Ellen Ripley in Alien. Or Sarah Connor in Terminator. Those two are very strong female characters that many accept. Even in the genre of Sci-FI and horror, which has many male fans, they are iconic characters and favorites. So what did James Cameron do correctly with these characters that Disney can't seem to get right with female characters they try to write? Well for one thing, these franchises were born in the 1980s. Cameron didn't have to worry about a feminist agenda or virtue signaling. He didn't have to worry about making sexist jokes against men or feeling as if he needed Ripley or Connor to show off or make the male characters around them weak. All he did was write a badass character that happened to be a woman. That's it. (Along with some very good acting by Sigourney Weaver and Linda Hamilton)
Have you actually watched Alien or the original Terminator lately? Ripley and Sarah Connor are EXTREMELY unlikeable characters by today's standards. I said it earlier in the thread, if Alien came out today, people would be yelling on YouTube about how Ripley survived when the more experienced men were killed. She was the one who tried to override the captain and keep everyone from coming back inside the ship. Same with Aliens. After one lesson on the exosuit Ripley is able to fight and defeat the Alien queen? And she knows more than the marines? WOKE.

And Sarah Connor goes from being a young whiny waitress to a fighting machine. Not to mention she's mentally unstable. People would HATE her.

Same with Leia. She's bossy and young. And then she manages to kill Jabba the Hutt?

The virtue signaling is out of control. The people running these productions today are all highly-educated feminists and diversity experts who are all very angry at how sexist and racist Hollywood was in the past. But NONE of them are good storytellers. They are terrible at this. They cannot make a good story if their lives depended on it. Because they don't care about the story. They don't care about the character. They are more focused on trying to prove a point.

Can you provide examples of the people running these productions and what movies/shows you're talking about? You seem to be conflating producers with creatives.

Look at the Disney executive that was just fired, Latondra Newton. Do you think her primary focus was that Disney was writing good stories?

No, because she wasn't a creative. She was Chief Diversity Officer for the entire Walt Disney Company.

And then we have Kathleen Kennedy right now running Lucasfilms who talks more about feminism and diversity more than making improving Star Wars as a franchise.

Kathleen Kennedy was hired by George Lucas before he retired.

All of the Star Wars movies that have been released under Kennedy so far have been written and directed by men.

And now the new series is being highlighted and applauded because it has a transgender character.

What series is this?

The only Star Wars movie that Disney did that works is Rogue One. Why? It has a female lead, yes. But other than that the "woke" is kept pretty much sidelined.

Rogue One is a movie about a small band of rebels, played by a woman and men of color, who steal plans from the authoritarian Galactic Empire who have taken over the galaxy. If you don't think that's woke, you really don't know the definition of the word. (And please read up on George Lucas's inspiration for the Battle of Endor.)

I wouldn't say they are unlikeable - but you are right, they are very similar to the action-ladies of today. Sarah only becomes a fighting machine in T2, but I actually love her in the first movie. She is a little odd, but a nice person.

Right, I personally don’t find them unlikeable, but they’re no different than the characters people call ā€œunlikeableā€ today.

It’s also hilarious to me that people complain about unlikeable female characters when Tony Stark, unrepentant *******, was the glue that held the MCU together for 10+ years.

Ohhh, I see what you mean - that those who complain today wouldn't like them. Right.

The only trans characters I can think of in current Star Wars are a clone trooper called ā€œSisterā€ in Queen’s Hope & Brotherhood and then there’s trans non-binary Jedi twins in The High Republic stuff so I’m not sure if that’s what a pp was referring to?

The issue is you assume we wouldn't like those characters today, but you have no proof of that. Wonder Woman was a universally loved character, with most movie goers praising GG's depiction of that role. That is a modern character written in the same vein as Ripley from Alien. Katniss Everdeen is a universally beloved female lead from a modern movie too, where were all the male chauvinist pigs when she was ruling the box office?

Captain Marvel is an example of it being done terribly, and a character universally hated by a pretty large portion of the fanbase. The fact that Brie is an insufferable human being and complete Diva on set only adds to the fan's hatred of her.

Why when we love one and hate another, are we still criticized? Are we to love all female characters even when they are objectively written terribly like Rey Palpatine, Captain Marvel, and Galadriel?

I saw something about a non-binary character in the Leslye Hedland hot garbage she is working on, sorry let me be more specific The Acolyte.

Wonder Woman is another really well written character in Hollywood. She is perfectly cast and plays a perfectly genuine female lead character. WW is a good example of how to do it correctly today. Night and day from Rey and Captain Marvel.
The second Wonder Woman movie was absolutely horrendous. The first just felt like a knock off of CA:TFA.

I really enjoyed Captain Marvel. And your second sentence is just a false incel talking point.

The fact that you like Brie Larson and CM does not change the fact that the character is hated by a significant portion of Marvel fans. Why do all your talking points result in calling people names?

Facts don't care about your feelings, and CM is not a well liked character. If CM was so beloved why on earth did they not name her sequel Captain Marvel 2? Because they know Brie and CM are not popular!

I'll just say that if Brie ever wants to hang out, I'm cool with that. We can watch some movies, play some Switch, whatever. I'd probably get a few work out tips too. Maybe she'll give me a call. šŸ™‚

This is an example of what I am talking about. Tell a good story first and foremost, why does gender matter so much in all of these projects? I thought "The Force Is Female" was just a random T-shirt that Darth Kennedy liked and not an agenda?
Why does it threaten you so much? Why do you care about it so much? Just watch it or don't watch it. You're not a shareholder. Your input matters little.

Yeah, it's because a "significant portion of Marvel fans" hate her and not because it's 3 Marvels in one movie?
