I heard a few months before that Disneyland MIGHT be opening their theme park here in The Philippines by 2015? How true is this? IF this is TRUE, then I will be the one of the first people who will be at their grand opening! :dance3:

It's taken them a billion years to build one small roller coaster in New Fantasyland and we knew about it many years in advance. Don't you think if they were building an entire theme park somewhere a) we'd know about it and b) construction would have started years ago?

Did you hear the rumor from someone looking to sell you a plot of neighboring land at "a great price"?

Very seriously doubt this one is true, as both Clark and Subic Bay are former U.S. military bases (which the U.S. military left in 1991).

That being said, Subic Bay had been used as an Asian hub for FedEx in recent years, while the former Clark Air Base is currently undergoing a major expansion to eventually become the primary international point of entry into the Philippines (and eventually replacing Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila).

Given the way these two facilities are currently set-up -- and the fact that it takes at least 10 years from concept to reality for any Disney attraction/theme park to open, I would file this in the "rumor" category.

Besides, it would appear Disney is betting its' Asian future on current parks already operating in Tokyo/Hong Kong/Shanghai...

Shanghai Disneyland is scheduled to open in 2015 or 2016 but I haven't heard anything about a park in the Philippines.

There's been construction in Shanghai for a couple years already and they are just finishing up site prep, I can't imagine they could build a new park in such a short amount of time.

No way in 2015.

But as for how long it takes for Disney to build things...Disney does not build any parks outside the U.S. They are built by others under design and license from Disney - for example, The Oriental Land Company built and runs the Tokyo Disney Resort. Euro Disney SCA (a public company, of which Disney was only a minor shareholder) built what is now Disneyland Paris.

So, you'll probably see a park in the Philippines faster than you will in Branson/anywhere in Texas/latest rumor from left field...

But then again, check the news today about the weather in the Philippines, and you might find out why it won't happen...

I was in the Navy after Subic was closed, but from what the old timers talked about, it was not too family friendly. I can't imagine Disney going there without a lot of "cleaning."
