Rumors of major changes at CR in 2006?

This is where that disconnect between the brain and the typing fingers really comes back to bite you......

And maybe you should contact WDW and introduce them to the concept of a structural engineer - they may be interested in using one this time. Afterall, their string of luck of building all of those properties without the proper analysis may be coming to an end

If this happens, I will be so bummed out DVC seems to be taking over the property, and convention centers too...how can they even begin to build another resort without bringing the parks back up to par first? Shouldn't that money go into the aging monorail fleet, park maintenance, new attractions before they add more hotel rooms???

Actually, DVC would be a separate entity in itself and not related to monies spent for show attractions in the parks, etc. It pays for itself and then some I'm sure by the investments DVC members make.

As far as CR, a DVC addition would be a good thing as this resort needs some major rehabbing. They would have to rehab it in order to entice people to plunk down a large amount of cash. I know for one, that pool looks pretty lame compared to the other WDW resorts. Also, that number mentioned on this thread would probably be even more as this would be on a monorail line. So you're talking potentially alot of money to get points at CR.

Another thing, part of our dues go towards transportation. If you're that worried about your precious monorail you should gladly welcome a DVC resort at CR. Maybe our additional monies would help spruce up the monorail line.

It sounds like you would be part of that camp that thinks WDW shouldn't even have the values cause it brings in a lower class of people. Well, everyone is entitled to enjoy a WDW vacation the same as you. I can bet some of those people saved up longer and will appreciate their trips more than you would. Ever heard the once in a lifetime trip? Well, for some it is. I think it is wonderful WDW has resorts for every price range. One word comes to mind - SNOB.

If you announced they were going to put a DVC up in the parking lot of the Poly or the GF you'd likely have rioting in the streets! (maybe not but close!)

I can't imagine why. The DVC villas at the Boardwalk, the Beach Club and the Wilderness Lodge fit in very smoothly without causing any problems at all.

The contemporary resort is really showing it's age. It badly needs some updating and improvement, if a DVC resort is the way to thelp make that happen, all the better.

This has been a regular rumor for quite some time. My question is, why can't they just one of the parcels from the original property plan and build a brand new DVC resort on the monorail? Can you imagine how popular it would be?

GeeKChic----

Get a clue. I bet I have spent more money at DIsney as a DVC member than you will ever spend pay "top Dollar" at deluxe resorts. I guess us "commoners" aren't good enough to use the monorail, so Disney will be planning to make a path exclusively for DVCers from CR to MK so that we can walk and not clog up the monorail.

I have noticed in the past a lot of buildings falling down and in disarray. Maybe consulting a structural engineer would be a good idea going forward.

If so, then no need to crow about it...let whomever pay CR prices for plain CR hotel rooms... guess who's wiser.... better off spending your time thinking about relaxing in your inroom jacuzzi after entertaining friends in the living room of your one bedroom or two bedroom villa.

The contemporary is really showing it's age. Perhaps they should change the name of the resort to something with a 70's theme?

No do you think it will have enough rooms available at the 7 month window? Or will I have to buy points to try the new DVC contemporary?

Oh I just thought of a funny. This would actually make the DVC the CONTEMPORARY and the orginal will be it's OLDER counterpart. Do you think the cash ressies will actually rather stay at the DVC resort?

Maybe Disney could buy up Fox and we could have "That 70's Hotel" complete with a Meet & Greet with Ashton Kutcher. ::yes::

I think they should just put in an addition to the monorail line strictly for DVC members that only DVCers can ride. You need your room key with DVC member on it or your membership card for access to it. I hope this rumour does become true our guide mentioned it to us about 6 months ago after I asked her what she had heard and she asked me what rumours I had heard floating around. If it happens we will be buying points there for sure.

I think the only riot you would have is the one at the DVC sales center to purchase points. There are many devotees of these resorts that would love to lock in 50 years worth of accomodations, and stay in much nicer rooms to boot. I've heard many people say that they would buy into DVC only if they built at the Poly. DVC has become the most profitable division at WDW and it is just good business practice to continue that. One of the things I love about WDW is change. Nostalgia is nice, but not profitable. Disney is in business to make money period. The DI was a financial bust so they tore it down and built SSR, and that's been more successful than Disney imagined. While I don't know if the rumor of the CRV DVC is true, it would definitely be a way for Disney to turn those Garden Wings into a profitable entity. I'm willing to bet they would sell out those points in record time.

Yikes! Can you image the dues that would require? Thanks, but I'll stick to my little boat ride from our VWL home.

Regarding structural engineering "concerns"... I'm not a structural engineer, but I am in an engineering trade. In context, a "concern" is simply a challenge to be worked out. I read somewhere that the ground around the Poly was very poor foundation for a large complex.. building the Poly was a challenge. Perhaps CR might has similar issues that might preclude another large tower.

Oh Tim the dues would be through the roof if they put in a monorail line just for the DVC resort but it would be cool to see.

a few years ago this issue came up - then DVC did not have enough defenders.....by any means....

It is nice to know that their are now members who will defense DVC.....

I really hope this rumor is true.

But 2006 that is a very long time for the CR wings not to have the maintence it really needs....the management at CR will suffer greatly if WDW does not do something about this hotel long before then.

Well said burnsoc. We've stayed at the Grand Floridian, and while the rooms were nice, they certainly cannot compare to the spaciousness and luxury of having a one bedroom villa with a jacuzzi. Who would these people who would be rioting in the streets be? Seems like some wonderful new rooms would be available.

GeekChic, have you ever stayed in a one or two bedroom DVC villa? You can pay cash for them for a stay. Do you have experience from which to base these views re DVC members? Have you stayed at BCV, WLV or BWV and a one bedroom or bigger? I've stayed in the one bedroom suite in the CR tower, it was nice, with an outstanding view. But if you discount the view, DVC villas are comparable IMHO with amenities CR suites don't have like a jacuzzi, full kitchen instead of bar set up, and a washer and dryer, which can be very handy when you have little ones. If you haven't stayed in one, you should treat yourself, you'll be impressed.

I haven't stayed in a DVC property but I have stayed many times in the Buena Vista Villas, the Fairway Villas, and other very upscale timeshare locations in Kissimmee and also in other areas in FL before so I know what they are like.

I agree that something needs to be done as far as the wings go for upkeep, apparently in the tower too now that they just had this huge water issue...but i feel like DVC is taking over, as someone who prefers not to own timeshare after my family's past experiences with it, i just hate the thought of my favorite hotel being monkeyed with to make room for more DVC. Hope people can understand that.

Yes, nostalgia is nice and yes disney is a business, but Walt was big on tradition, in fact the training program for disney CM's was called "Traditions" for decades (don't know if it still is now). so there is a place for that too, but that doesn't mean letting classics like the CR go IMO.

I didn't mean to offend any DVC'ers. I'm just one of many people with strong emotional ties to the CR who hate the idea of part of it being torn down, that's all.

I hardly think replacing the North Garden Wing constitutes "letting classics like the CR go."

Your prejudice shows little knowledge of what timeshares are and especially DVC. In many ways DVC is far more deluxe than many of the non DVC resorts, ESPECIALLY CR which has slipped over the years. A DVC addition there would be a DRAMATIC improvement. And CR is likely the only resort on property where it's unlikely to see any atmosphere changes by adding a DVC option there.
